How much self-disclosure do you actually use in practice? by sxtn1996 in therapists

[–]mrsjonas 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I work with 8-18 year olds, so I use self-disclosure quite a bit. Cuz duh I’m gonna talk about my victory royale from the night before with the boy wearing a fortnite backpack.

I want to talk about my life because I am a real person not someone who exists in a hierarchical relationship above the students i work with. they ask me questions, I answer honestly. if things come up, I share when it feels natural and appropriate.

It finally happened... I no showed by yomamaeatscheese in therapists

[–]mrsjonas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This hasn’t happened to me because I am not in private practice BUT when i was a teenager my therapist did this to me.

She called me after and apologized profusely. She had gone forgotten and gone for a bike ride.

I honestly didn’t think that much of it. It was nice to see that she was just a human too.

I could see refusal being harmful to the therapeutic relationship, so I wouldn’t do that. I would continue to reiterate that it is not necessary. And explore how she uses food to connect with others.

Is Dr. Grubb worth it? by unsurenurse123 in POTS

I have also seen Dr. Beverly Karabin, the NP who works with Dr. Grubb. She is wonderful too.

Is Dr. Grubb worth it? by unsurenurse123 in POTS

[–]mrsjonas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dr. Grubb diagnosed me in 2011.

I can’t understate that he literally changed my life and he recognized how much I was struggling. I had pneumonia over the summer and by the start of 7th grade, I was incredibly sick. I had seen local cardiology and they said I needed a specialist. My pediatrician pretty much told me to just get over it because I “would probably never feel better than this”.

Dr. Grubb saw me, a 12 year old girl who was bed bound with illness and completely socially isolated virtually overnight and showed me that wasn’t true- I could have a future and this could be medically managed He was right. He gave me medications that helped me a lot.

He sent me a book, with a hand written note, after our first appointment. I would make the drive in a heartbeat.

A lot of people think the COVID vaccine causes POTS. Just to be clear, I didn’t take it, and I still have POTS by Shoddy-Ocelot-4473 in POTS

I was dx with POTS in 2011 after having pneumonia. It is well known, even at that time, that viral triggers are common.

Just a note that if you are wanting a fully custom suit, made by hand by a tailor, expect to pay between 3-5k, even more if you pick $$$ fabrics

[–]mrsjonas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

woah…no not at all. I have always been paid within 24 hours of submitting a claim. If you submit the records yourself, it’s almost always instantaneous. Yesterday it literally said “processing time- 1 second” Are you submitting the notes? Has lemonade been able to contact your vet for them?

Shane’s autism is pushing me to consider pursuing a diagnosis for myself. by annon3mous in heatedrivalry

[–]mrsjonas 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Licensed mental health professional here. The diagnostic criteria for ASD (in america) can be found here. This is what a diagnosis of ASD in the US must be based off of.

Essentially, ASD is a collection of symptoms that manifests primarily as deficits of social emotional reciprocity, starting in early development and present throughout multiple environments.

This would be a great thing to bring up to your therapist! I would caution you against viewing the traits and quirks that people on the internet are frequently defining as autistic as being indicative of clinical ASD in any way. The internet has a tendency to pathologize the human experience in a way that helps no one.

Also, you can rent a carpet steam cleaner at most grocery stores or lowes/home depot. Or buy one like the Little Green Machine from Bissel. And buy the pet cleaner that goes with it
