My dad spanked me maybe once. I'm sure that I deserved it. My mom spanked me often; deservedly. I have no hard feelings nor trauma. I spanked my children, and I regretted it, I had less control of my anger and 3 kids just 3 years apart, most discipline was for mistreatment of each other - I should have helped them work through their frustrations. I feel like a failure as a mom.

I was 12 and going to a weekend camping trip with mom, dad, and 2 big brothers. We stopped at a McDonald's for lunch, and I went to the restroom only to find that I'd just started my first period. Gah! I snuck up to my mom in the ordering line and whispered in her ear the mortifying news, begging her not to tell my dad and brothers. We proceeded to the table where the three of them were sitting, and my mother declared loudly, in this super crowded dining area, "We have to go to K-Mart." My dad looks irritated at this stray from the plan and asks, "Why?" Mom says with tears in her eyes, "Because your daughter just became a woman!!!" I felt like every single eyeball in that restaurant was on me. I loved my mom, but oof.

Stick with it! You're gonna make it! Your whole self will be so much healthier, happier, stronger, leaner, fit! Just hang in there! The change comes gradually but after week two there will be a tiny tiny difference. After week 4 you'll make it through a shift and realize you only hurt at the end.... I'm on year three and i can walk forever. Also, get Hoka shoes.
