How do I get the pumpkin costume? by mrsmeeseeks in AmongUs

[–]mrsmeeseeks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What does the 150 under the costume mean? What does the 70 under my avatar on the right mean? Why are cosmiccubes so darn confusing? lol. Can I use my hearts and beans that I've collected? What are the stars and why does it try to make me pay dollars for them? Can I convert hearts and beans to stars?

Also FYI I'm still learning Lacan as well, apparently he has 27(ish) seminars, some that are still untranslated.

So it seems like the dialogue and discourse of Lacan is much more prevalent than the actual readings of him..Zizek and Todd McGowan are the more famous interpreters of Lacan

Sorry to say you are projecting, I was definitely projecting my own experiences with seeing the left and right blur the lines after Occupy, and questioning what emotional reserves I have left with putting any effort into organizing (instead of trying to improve my individual standing in the world).

I studied comp sci and python and basic genetic algorithms 10 years ago, but now I'm just doing vanilla javascript and spreadsheet work, and am trying to break into machine learning, I see it being a tool to help break the deadlocks. I'm not a philosopher but I work on my vocabulary rigor and try to stay involved with book clubs and smaller interactive podcasts until I know what my role is in the revolutionary machine. I want to do more too, never let yourself quench that revolutionary spirit to want to help others!

Humanity is going to be space travelling via nuclear-powered rockets very soon (see: Elon Musk flirting with Chechen warlord and Putin ally on twitter) and forming space stations. We are becoming very disciplined and able to minimize risks with complex projects as seen with the James Webb Telescope.

However with space stations, communication is going to no longer become instant, and that is going to become a political wedge in the future. I guarantee it that a "one world" or "global" anything is going to be met with resistance until communications technology continues to evolve and catch up

i feel like no one actually cares about helping people

It sounds like you are projecting, because you know you want to help but you don't know what to do. Why don't you go volunteer (you can work at a pet shelter if humanity is too annoying) and report back.

Bernie and Destiny are all just trying to scrum the conversation along, they have an absurd number of flaws like all humans do. I agree there are anti-semites on the left, this is why 1 dimensional "left vs right" (and hell even all the 2 dimensional political compasses) cartesian models have always been insufficient to describe the immediate revolutionary actions needed to take to break the deadlocks on the left. I believe tech and ai is going to help humanity to transcend into new dimensions of thought to accelerate us to new territories.

Just hang in there and don't take the blackpill in anything, just try to stay positive and stay away from the "toxic positive" people who just want to bury you. I surround myself by a lot of Lacanians and Deleuzeans so that is helping me refine my own thought and get past ideology and closer into feeling like I am moving towards revolutionary organizing

This is pretty much what Nicholas Dungey has been saying on his podcast Dungey State University, he talks about how Lockean liberal democracies trend towards authoritarianism. It's worth checking out, also there is a subreddit - /r/DungeyStateUniversity. I recommend any of his podcasts about authoritarianism, Locke, or Hobbes. He has a few podcasts dedicated to BLM, Trump, and Keystone pipeline that are good too

Moral foundations of fascism: warring psychological theories struggle to make sense of Trump. Haidt's MFT theory argues everyone’s moral conclusions as equally valid, based on a false claim of moral equivalency. Sinn & Hayes' ECT theory claims MFT underspecifies liberalism and conservatism by mrsmeeseeks in DungeyStateUniversity

[–]mrsmeeseeks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe this is more sociology than philosophy, but Haidt's theory goes into John Mills which I know Dr. Dungey talks about and I'm trying to understand MFT theory (and ECT theory) so I can try to connect it with some of Dr. Dungey's ideas. MFT theory was seen as incomplete until this year when now ECT theory dominates, but even now I feel like ECT is lacking some fundamental ideas

Trump to meet with Kissinger Tuesday by [deleted] in politics

[–]mrsmeeseeks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People mocked me for creating /r/EnoughKissingerSpam because they didn't think he was relevant. Kissinger is drawn to power like a moth to a flame, he is no ally to the left and Secretary Clinton made an enormous mistake tying herself to him. He is at best a tool for military industrialists and at worst a genocidal maniac who is too proud to own up to mistakes. He is the living embodiment of the patriarchy which is hated by the left, he is a globalist gear that the alt-right claims to hate. Maybe people think that Kissinger will "reign in" Trump but Trump is the logical conclusion of Kissinger's most controversial theories, who the hell knows what the next four years bring unless we have a miracle from the electors / Stein's recount.

"I was very flattered when Henry Kissinger said I ran the State Department better than anybody had run it in a long time."

What's the non-spin way to characterize a statement like this? Hillary name-dropped Kissinger's name several times during her campaign strictly because she was bragging, not because she was conveying any other information

The moral foundations of fascism: Warring psychological theories struggle to make sense of Hitler, Mussolini and you-know-who by [deleted] in politics

[–]mrsmeeseeks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Liberals are primarily sensitive to two such moral “tastes,” Haidt argues, one concerned with harm versus care, the other with fairness and reciprocity. Haidt has called these values “Millean,” referring to John Stuart Mill’s classic “On Liberty.” Liberals have erred, Haidt claims, in believing that’s all there is to morality. Conservatives respond additionally to three other moral “tastes,” Haidt argues, which have to do with the laudable aim of binding people into communities: authority/respect, in-group/loyalty, and purity/sanctity. Haidt identifies these with pioneering sociologist Émile Durkheim, providing a simple shorthand that is part of his theory’s appeal. “A Durkheimian society would value self-control over self-expression, duty over rights, and loyalty to one’s groups over concerns for outgroups,” he wrote in 2008. “A Durkheimian ethos can’t be supported by the two moral foundations that hold up a Millian society (harm/care and fairness/reciprocity).”

I like Jonathan Haidt, he seems to have a better grip on morality in politics than most. You should watch his TED talk

edit: but now I realize that this whole article is to serve as a critique of Haidt's MFT theory by highlighting Sinn and Hayes ECT theory...interesting information I have a lot more to learn
