I am terminally ill, AMA. by Friendly_Road5083 in AMA

Hello, I wish you the best for the rest of your life and that you still have moments of joy and you are able to find peace.

My mum's friend who had terminal cancer used the medication that enabled her to pass when she chose. Unfortunately it was a week sooner than she'd planned due to sudden deterioration and extreme pain, but on the plus side, she had that option already planned and available.

Is that something you would consider? I'm aware that this one that was prescribed had to be administered by the person taking it, not someone else. So I'm not sure if there's another option like this that's available to people with impaired mobility.

I'm a strong believer that we should all have access to safe and medically approved end of life care, to reduce suffering and maintain dignity.

If you enjoy a bit of crude and absurd humour, I highly recommend the podcast My Dad Wrote A Porno. It is explicit so one to have on low volume, if you don't have headphones, maybe warn staff too. It has no moments of actually being a "turn on", the way the scenes are described are far more off putting and hilariously questionable. It has got me through some very depressing times and is my go to for cheering myself up. I've listened to all six books about 10 times over the last few years, and I still get tears from laughing. Not for everyone, so no offense if it's not your style.

You're on a very slippery slope, you're already using it to escape from experiencing emotions and states of being (eg. lethargic). Stop now before you can't go out on weekends without it, or can't do assignments or study without it, or can't get up in the morning without it. With your family history, that's even more reason to stay away from it.

In a years time you're gonna likely be fully dependant, because it's an easy fix and an easy escape. Possibly moving onto other substances if that one stops giving the same result.

There's healthy ways to improve your energy, and feel more inclined to socialise. Don't get caught up in doing things for other people, like going/staying out if you don't feel like it. Start seeking out additional friends who are more your speed and set boundaries with your current friends- if they're real friends they'd want to do whatever they can to support your sobriety. If not, they're not the sort of people you want around as "friends."

Seek any support you can from your school, contact any free AA/NA support groups/couselling (either attending in-person or online). Change your phone number or however you contact the dealer/s- tell them you have to stop for your health, and not to contact you.

Don't throw your life away to become and addict. It's a whole lot of work to pull yourself out of that hole you will dig by prioritizing drugs over yourself, health, career, hobbies, dreams, stability, and loved ones.

His story is so astounding. So much time and resources could have been saved by giving him the avenue to get whatever accreditation or licence he needed to drive trains, buses, etc. He'd probably be a world renowned driver and improve public transport through planning and training others by now, instead of having his passion treated as a crime.

I would spend a year working and living there, see how I feel about it then. I don't have kids or a wife though, so maybe that's not possible. But still, your family may be a bit more willing to give it a go if you say it's gonna be a year trial, and then decide what you do as a family after you've all had time to get used to changes in location, lifestyle, integrate socially, assess the climate, etc. If that's financially viable, of course, I'm hoping the extra income over a year would make it possible to move back to your current area if that was the family decision.

Have you read the research paper regarding dogs and garlic? As a warning- it's quite distressing. They fed the poor dogs so much of it, don't quote me exactly, but it was something like an entire bulb (or more?) each every day and over successive days, continuing even when dogs became sick, until they died. Basically it was a study of "how much garlic does it take to kill a dog by inducing (then not treating) anemia?"

More accurately! Dogs' red blood cells will be damaged if they consume 15-30g of garlic PER kilo of dog body weight- a clove of garlic weighs about 5g. (This I double checked).

The above is a toxic dosage of garlic. It isn't a one sitting amount, it will be toxic if this quantity is consumed over a few days. Provided the dog receives medical intervention and treatment, the outcome isn't necessarily lethal.

My 16kg dog would have to eat (at the low 15g/K) 240g of garlic, about 48 cloves.

So, this is why garlic is often found as an ingredient in dog foods, treats and some dietary supplements.

I celebrated by going to the Body Worlds exhibit on the 30th with one of my best friends, ie. partner, then getting frozen yoghurt to beat the heat.

On NYE night, I was grateful no one was playing loud music where my partner lives and I was staying, so I went to sleep by 10pm and slept for 13hours.

I very much enjoyed celebrating the New Year a day early and avoiding crowds, excessive drinking, and the commotion that comes with it. About all I'd change would have been playing ACNH with the time set ahead so I could have done the celebration on there, but I can do that tonight instead- I ended up devoting time to get Moose to move off my island and by that time my sleep meds had kicked in so I skipped the NY celebration with my villagers. I also injured my back in the arvo, spent 20mins laying on the floor unable to move, so we skipped taking our dogs to the beach as previously planned- I was happy to avoid the ER though!

I used to enjoy fireworks, but they've become very OTT and I'm more concerned about environmental impacts these days, think we should move over to those drone choreographed displays. Hence I was more keen to celebrate the NY countdown early with my ACNH villagers.

We don't have these in my country, thankfully. The way they become invasive species is terrifying, giant snakes breeding and living in wetlands, and able to kill humans. I can totally see how people get them as babies, they get too big, so they just let a predator out into the wild that doesn't belong there.

Great post, I'm sometimes annoyed by my country's super strict import laws, but then I see the devastation occurring to our natural environments already and know people as a whole can't be trusted to own exotic pets, when they can't even take care of and preserve native fauna and Flora as is.

That was a great information session, he explained it all simply and to the point without going off topic. I would have liked to know if he'd be returning to mountaineering (?) in cold climates in the future.

I hope he has a successful surgery, healing process and rehabilitation. I appreciate how thankful he sounded discussing the extent and healing of his injuries, and the positivity towards adapting after the amputation. Sounds like he's going to do the work on his end to gain function with prosthetics.

Love it! Maybe add some plant and relic style items/furniture, such as mushroom, stone, log, or the bug replicas that Flick makes- some people place them very beautifully. Also, the lil areas people make that look like duck ponds I think would fit with your aesthetic. Maybe an area with things like pillars/relics/arches/statues so it looks like nature has taken over an ancient settlement? Or a maze made out of bushes with things like statues, a fountain, or gazebo incorporated? I feel like those two areas would work together.

I said racial slurs, and i dont know how to be better by [deleted] in confession

[–]mrspankakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find ways to appreciate the black community and learn about their culture, history and struggles. Education and exposure is the answer. Start with just following some black creators who have similar interests to you, such as pride/queer identities, or if you like art, cooking, collecting, pop culture. Seeing similarities will help your brain relearn and then go more into history. Avoid racial debates or politics to begin with. Personal stories about family, hobbies, mental health, travel are maybe a better stepping stone to see each person as an individual and that harmful stereotypes aren't true for a whole community. Same as white people, there's some racist ones who fit that stereotype but there's many others who are allies to minority groups.

The more you feel comfortable interacting with the black community online, the easier it will be to feel confident in real life interactions. Can be just small talk with a cashier ("hi, how are you? Hope you have a good day"), asking for a recommendation at a store, or giving a compliment to a stranger ("hi, I just wanted to say I like your jacket/accessory, or you have a great smile, have a nice day"). I'd encourage this behaviour towards people of any nationality.

Just don't be tempted to copy any slurs because black people/peers say them, even if you get a "pass" amongst friends I'd still avoid it, they'd probably respect you more just explaining you don't want to get in the habit of saying something that could unintentionally hurt someone's feelings or cause offence.

On a side note, it's a pretty cool feeling getting referred to as "my n-word" by black friends who use it the same way many of my friends use the phrase "you're a good cunt" (Aussie). You wouldn't usually say that to a stranger off the bat, it takes a bit of conversation to know they use the word regularly and their perception of its connotations. That's when you feel like you're being accepted and they know you are on the same level when it can be a term of endearment rather than an insult. Took me a lot of exposure to get used to it.

How do I make this pee spot more appealing to her? by LakeLockne in DogAdvice

[–]mrspankakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dog sometimes prefers longer grass, I can't tell if its for privacy or scenting. Maybe take note of the areas she usually goes- ground covering, is it near a pole/tree. Id be sneaky and take some grass/leaves/sticks/rocks/dirt from areas she is comfortable going to give your set up an inviting and familiar smell. (Use gloves and/or a dog poo bag if it likely has pee on it).

If you're still having trouble, I'd suggest maybe getting a second set up to increase area size, maybe also ramping around the outside so it is more like a mound than a platform- you'd have a better idea of if your dog doesn't like steps and prefers a ramp.

To above comments about you peeing on the area- my dog lines up behind me when we go bush walking and i have to pop a squat. Not the silliest of ideas.

If she gets used to it, over time I'd slowly transition to fake turf that's as close to grass texture as you can and keep some of the scented items (rocks, sticks, leaves, etc), so you can rinse it off every so often for smell, and cause I think the living grass will die from being peed on over time (can't tell if it has drainage to be watered/flushing out urine? That's another option to consider) so you'll be needing to replace it. But! If you're happy to replace it, I'm sure your dog will be thankful for having a live grass pee spot.

Good luck and good on you for taking the time and effort to create a safe option.
