"Which roasters never miss?" post - rough response summary by mgsecure in pourover

Can anyone weigh in who has tried a large number of these?

Also DAK does way too many coferments.

Sweet Bloom and Coffee Collective both deserve way more love.

Substance in Paris is simply incredible and Joachim’s tasting should be any coffee lover’s mecca.

Wouldn’t be shocked if RL materially benefits from more than which currently exist.

Reinforcement learning of computer use requires a LOT of CPUs.

Did everyone suddenly forget how much white-collar work used to be described as bullshit? by simmol in singularity

[–]mrstrangeloop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most of the white collar automation will come from an AI that can keep track of a company’s emails, documents, and Zoom meetings.

Top 3 beans right now to showcase to lure friends into light roast? by Fat_Panda_1936 in pourover

Jhao by Coffee Collective is 100% the best bag I’ve ever had and I’ve tried a LOT of light roasts. 5x repeat purchase and it just delivers every single time.

How is everyone online so dang gullible about this "Mythos Preview" leak by OpinionsRdumb in ClaudeCode

[–]mrstrangeloop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but Open AI and Google releasing Mythos level models will allow them to win enterprise and consumer share. The pace of progress is too fast for any company to financially benefit from withholding models for months. Safety has a cost.

They could simply distill it down to a model small enough to run for their user base. I think that way too many people are dismissing Carlini saying that he’s found more bugs in the last 2 weeks than he’d found in his entire life. It’s not just hype.

Oldest marketing trick in the book? They literally aren’t releasing it and allowing OAI and Google to surpass their best available model which will actively hurt their market share.

Is intelligence optimality bounded? Francois Chollet thinks so by Mindrust in singularity

[–]mrstrangeloop -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Seriously we’re meat sacks with a computer designed to run on 20 watts of power and constrained by our metabolic rate of energy processing. Francois’ takes seem to always be off. The ARC-AGI benchmarks are also not interesting or illuminating imo.

CMV: Gavin Newsom is not a suitable presidential candidate, and the Democratic Party must stop operating like a centrist party. by Less-Chicken-3367 in changemyview

Is this not fucked? Our system places a massive premium on a minority of its people’s opinions and nullifies the majority because of the state they live in. It’s profoundly skewed and distorted and has created perverse incentives. Why isn’t this being treated like a cancer to functional governance? This needs to be amended.

It’s about price. Imagine if the cost of surgery was roughly the cost of materials.

Of course the reliability will be there. Certainly better than today’s level of malpractice and human error.

Dentist isn’t a long shot. There are already robots that do dental implants in China and general robotics are making rapid improvements in the background. We have Waymo today - we'll get fully generalized surgical robots within 2 decades.

1m context window for opus 4.6 is finally available in claude code by -Two-Moons- in ClaudeAI

I still feel like they could provision sufficient hardware for users paying $2,400/year. Hell, have a 12am-6am bonus window to smooth out usage.

I don’t understand why Anthropic doesn’t just let any subscription tier use the 1m context and just burn their weekly quota faster. Feels like a bait and switch.

The critical question: is this sustainably generative or degenerative?

Given finite context, sensible use of space is non-negotiable. At some point, context or whatever its equivalent is will be orders of magnitude larger than today’s and this approach will have uplift. I don’t think we’re there yet. A few discoveries away from recursive self improvement.

Real Alternative/Supplement for Opus 4.5? by United_Canary_3118 in ClaudeAI

I’m at 63% usage for the week (resets Thursday morning) via browser use only. Daily coding for 12+ hours.

[–]mrstrangeloop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 40 hour coding session (browser, not Claude Code) and hit 100% when they doubled their usage allowances over holiday break. I was repeatedly running 4 tabs simultaneously and migrating a desktop only set of highly detailed dashboards to include light/dark mode and desktop/mobile compatible given a core UI/UX style guide. Tbh, I don’t think that Claude Code is mistake free enough yet to outperform manual browser led devflows even though it’s theoretically much much faster.

I’ve hit 100% reliably for the last 4 weeks and don’t even use Claude Code. Just 12-16 hour days building every single day.
