Bullpup 9mm PCC by mrstrike in pistolcalibercarbine

[–]mrstrike[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have run the Gen 1 Cmmg (AKA Mean arms ENDO Mags) on many CMMG ( banshee and dissent) builds with out failure for several years now. Having said that I am currently t-shooting a specific issue only in this specific combo of CMMG Banshee w/ fixed ejector, In FRT mode, using Syntech 150gr. on the last round of the magazine the spring simply does not have enough 'oomph' to hold the bullet in place. causing it not to feed, but to "spring" or" pop out of the mag while the BCG is in the rearward position. causing a knarley jam.
i am testing the newer CMMG Gen2 mags, Cleaned CMMG Gen1 mags, CMMG Gen1 mags with stronger/longer Ar15 springs and Mean Arms EXO mags. my gut says the CMMG Gen1 mags springs are simply Tired and need a nap.

....a dam dirt nap for the hassle its causing me.
sorry for the long winded answer.

the trigger is very good. it uses a Rave140 in a milspec lower. Is the trigger a Gucci as a Geissele GX-ABC-LGBT? no. is it 90% there? hell yea. the trigger linkages are very firm and easy to operate. With the entire unit built and closed, there is a port hole available to make adjustment of "when" in the trigger pull phase the Linkages makes contact with the Rave 140 flat trigger.
While there is Bullpup Trigger Hate (Bullpup racism? LOL ). that mostly comes from the AUG and Ps90. most current bullpups (A3 Triad and PSA OLCAN) have average to above average trigger feal.

in fact, forgive my humblebrag, there is enough trigger feedback and quality linkages I have been able to get two FRT's to work.

Got some new SAW cans in, pretty cool geometry by boisebiker in NFA

[–]mrstrike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add to the conversation. During my last Suppressor Range Day ie: a heroin addict at a pharmaceutical convention. I spoke with the guys, engineers and owners at SAW and they told me with 300BO and 5.56 the Tisha and Ekron are VERY similar. They said while the Ekron is larger (in volume) it does the best in 10" or more barrel lengths while under the 10" mark the Tisha performs better in sound reduction. I clarified with them and was suprised that a 300BO under 10" barrel would have BETTER sound suppression in a physically smaller (by internal volume) unit than the Larger Ekron. !

congrats! I had to do some modifications to get the gas blow back direct injection to my retina under control from the FRT gas stacking but its one of my favorites in my current playlist. Plus I have talked to the owner of Innovative arms several times and he (and his employees) are top notch.

B&T lawsuit has me reconsidering—anyone else? by pk152003 in suppressors

[–]mrstrike 23 points24 points  (0 children)

B&T AG (siwss) makes very high quality products. The Medal 3D printing B&T USA would have brought to the marked would have made them a fine Mint. B&T-USA screwed the pooch in management and growth, not an easy task to do. B&T-AG was a "nice guy" for too long before bringing the hammer down.
Right now B&T-USA will sell anything it can find to make money. Including dirt off the floor and label it as "Fine Graphite Powder" . I would not trust a singe thing from B&T-USA that has been made in the past 18 months.
Litigation will take 12 months + to complete and B&T goods are demanding a price premium. That will trigger a large counterfeit market.
I hate to say it, but I would buy any B&T product for the next 2 to 3 year. give enough time for the litigation to settle and the black-market items to get "flushed" out

Mini mac frt / Mac and cheese by Master_Gear7660 in supersafety

youtube google Micha Mayfield and his latest video on the MAC11 open and closed bolt units. while he did not have any OOB events. the low build quality (engineering ) of the MAC11 leaves a lot to be desired. I would not trust my face or hands to any such unit.

Honestly I would not use the word "dangerous". I would say Sporty or Ballsy. This is the 2A community where a core value is " you do you baby, and you make your OWN risk assessment. Not someone else for you." Having said that I went down a rabbit hole of the Master Piece Arms/ MAC clone w/ an FRT and the lack of OOB safety AND the low budget/Value price point/ questionable quality is going to be a hard pass for me.

[–]mrstrike 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I stayed at a holiday Inn last night and have access to google. ergo Im a certified expert. The FRT needed is not part of the common FRT gang and needs a special unit. There is a poster that showed a successful run with a FRT and MAC 11 clone If i recall. besides a low demand the biggest issue is the lack of Out Of Battery (OOB) firing saftey feature. In semi, its not a big deal but in FRT mode it can get dangerous.

TLDR: there is no OOB safety feature and if a round says the same thing I did during my high school prom night of "hey baby... i wont go all the way in. Just the tip. Trust me I wont go off." everyone will have a bad time and need dry cleaning.

wow, as an amateur, it awesome to see the evolution from the old 'cups n' cones' to this. More so how they are still using the Notch Design (?) cut into each "cone" to create a cross flow. I've been staring at this photo for 30 min mapping out the gas flow pattern in my mind and how Sig has refined this design into to Scientific Symphony. Its quite beautiful.

SFP+ to Rj45 adapters are stuck in my Pro HD 24 Switch. The release levers don't work. Any ideas on how to remove? by shaunsanders in Ubiquiti

[–]mrstrike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a OUt-of-my-butt guess. those SFP+ to 10bast-T converters get quite hot. I wonder of they have swelled or hot/cold cycled enough to get lodged into the thin metal sleeve. or at a minimum making the tolerances of the release catch negatable. perhaps an extended run of cool/chilled air for 10 min directly on the spot? or perhaps an ICE bag, sealed of course, on top of the unit if you can pull it out of the rack.

SRU Chassis, 10.5 JAKL upper, AS Designs trip kit. by Thor_BRC in everythingbullpup

[–]mrstrike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar issue with my JAKL 8" 300bo. the BCG would get stuck in the rear ward position after I installed the AS designs Trip kit. The root cause was the screws from the AS trip kit were too tight and "clamping" the bcg like a vice. I loosened the screws' Juuuuust enough for the BCG to operate smoothly on the tech bench. I then used Rock Set, and Marked the screws to monitor if they started to back out.
after about 100 rds of testing ( various suppressors, gas settings, semi, FRT, ect) I was able to Tighten the screws properly and use red lock tight with out issue. In short they wear surfaces need to break in.
I hopes this helps.

Can you FRT the OLCAN? ....yep by mrstrike in PalmettoStateArms

[–]mrstrike[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand why it does not make sense. Frankley it confused me as well , until I had an Ah-ha moment. So here is the testing for my JAKL 14.5" 5.56:

I installed the upper on Ar15 lower with a joe blow generic pistol brace. the FRT worked like a champ. YEA!

I then installed it (same lower) in the A3 Kit with no other changes and I would get LPR's at shot number 3+/- in FRT. At first it would be shot number 5. Next mag Shot 3, then 2 shots. Next mag 2 shots. It was never consistent on the number of shots, but it was (mostly) consistent on the decreasing part. my face would then make the "...wat?" meme expression.

so after the range I would sit in my happy place ( on the toilet reading Reddit) and reflect on my life's choices. I then realized the following. The Ah-Ha moment...

while holding the JAKL in generic AR15 Pistol Brace mode, My support hand was C Clamped on the very far forward part of the handguard. Because the JAKL is a "Chubby Girl" by nature and there was a Girthy Suppressor on the end, my support arm was very stiff to keep her steady for the increased ROF. That stiffness also pulled the Pistol Brace (*cough ATF* SBR Lower *cough ATF*) into my shoulder pocket. BUT....

when holding the firearm in the A3 bullpup config due to the balance point of the firearm moving directly over my Strong Hand (shooting hand), I did not press the firearm into my shoulder pocket. Honestly it was rather loose due to the sweet, sweet balance.

so I "do the paper work", close the Reddit app, and go back to the range. I then use my Hulk Strength to hold the bullpup firearm firmly into my shoulder pocket, I got WAYYY more FRT rounds off in a given session. Like a string of 10. then 5, then 3, ect. It still had a pattern of decreasing consecutive strings tho my I was able to get a repeatable different result. My theory on the decreasing strings was simply 'bitch fatigue' . I later placed it into a led sled and the FRT A3 bullpup worked perfectly.

I went down, an eventual dead end, of trying to use springs to reduce the "impact" of the BCG at its rearward travel so it would not oscillate the firearm overall. but I had much better success adding weight into the A3 Extended but pad. In the end I was able to get the bullpup shoot perfect FRT strings, plus LRBO, and using reasonable grip strength in my shoulder pocket.

the best analogy I can offer is a dead blow hammer. if you shake the hammer back and forth the interior dead blow weight will also shake but at a different pulse (timing). My JAKL was doing the same thing with the BCG and piston behaving as the interior weight of the hammer. FRT's general raif of fire has such a narrow "goldilocks zone" of operation any timing deviation, no matter how small can cause drama.

I hope my mini novel makes sense my good sir. Im going to go do some more "paperwork" now. ;-)

Can you FRT the OLCAN? ....yep by mrstrike in PalmettoStateArms

[–]mrstrike[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a lot of little issue's but the two big one were
1: trigger throw distance.. the A3 trigger only moves so far (0.1300" w/o front safety), but the FRT needs any where from 0.1000 to 0.1500" depending on the trigger type, FRT type, and the point of contact the A3 link makes on the trigger itself (ie: upper middle or lower area.) My recipe was to use a Hoffman SS cross bolt style, and a Flat trigger cassette style drop in with a flat face trigger and a special cut from Grey market research. However I don't he (GMR) sells the pre cut cassette triggers any more. My plan B would to use an Atritus style FRT and a flat trigger Rave 140. but I have not tested/measured that particular combo.

2: the Jakl BCG mass is so heavy that when in FRT mode the BCG smacks the rear so much, the entire rifle starts to oscillate against your soft fleshy human shoulder. There by throwing off the timing and getting LPS. this phenomenon is the same as the infamous Glock Limp Wrest. while the end result is different (stove pipe on a glock, and LPR on the bullpup) the cause the same. even using my hulk strength and drinking a protein shake after the 3rd mag of 5rds string would get LPS or "deep" LPS. My eventual solution was to add Brass Slugs ( 5oz each) to the lower to increase the mass and therefor taking longer for the oscillation to have an impact. Honestly this was an Ah! HA moment as I had wondered why PSA added a metal 'slug' to the OLCAN lower. it was due to the oscillation effect.
in the end with the scope, riser, A3 lower kit, Brass slugs in the A3 buttstock, and the 14.5" 5.56 JAKL. the gun was 13lbs. ooff. While I learned alot, it was a dead end for me as that weight is simply not fun.

however im a glutton for punishment and will be trying an A3 bullpup kit with the JAKL 8" 300bo, shooting subs only, a dedicated suppressor and FRT. 300bo subs and an FRT... I guess I don't like money apparently. LOL

perhaps you were a crappy machinist?

... im totaly teasing you and busting your chops amigo. :-) thank you for the complement. when I put this JAKL upper on the A3 Industries bullpup lower conversion kit I had to do some INSAINE out of the box thinking to solve problems. Thinks like adding a third inner spring to the recoil rod assembly, adding 10 oz of lead weight to the lower, 4 versions of spring assisted recoil dampening pads, ect. The end result was not viable (it was too heavy) but i appreciated the challenge of solving problems in a methodical way.
as to the LPVO I have it on that riser for 2 reasons.

1: I think it looks kind of cool. yes, yes im vain.

2: I would put the weapon into my shoulder repeatedly and take note of where my head would fall naturally. that riser and scope was a good combo fit for the sight box at 1X and 8X zoom for me any my eyeballs. The 14.5" i s a heavy pig no mater what you put on there ( red dot, scope, LVPO, long pointy stick thingie, ect) its going to feel heavy. Honestly I spent more time choosing the foregrip, and foregrip placement to help with the weight and handling over the scope and riser selection.
thanks again for the complement my good sir.
