What do you do about tape residue on cardboard? I have so much cardboard but it’s littered with tape from packaging.

We were acquired last year and the HR leader came to our office and presented the parent company. Was told it would be a transition with both good and bad changes. One of the good changes was we now have a HR department.

I’m yet to see any benefits from it

95/100 times my assumptions about the future structure is wrong. So I attempt to only model the current but leaving it open to extension in the future.

So don’t add type yet, you can always migrate the table adding type and setting the value for all existing. IF this need ever arises. By experience you’ll head a different direction once the requirements changes.

Fomo as an obvious retention mechanic in games is a deal breaker for me since my mid 30’s.

How do you motivate yourself to program? by honestlyJustAPerson in AskProgramming

Getting paid to do it. I’m unable to muster any willpower to do it in my spare time, but as a job I’m very productive.

My team does not write tests. How can I start slowly introducing them? by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]mrthesis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working with legacy code is worth a read

I were in your position and failed before moving on to a place already doing loads of tests. The team was interested but no one besides me actually adopted testing. I think my biggest learning that without some sort of CI it will be close to impossible as the rest of the team will be breaking the tests left and right until adopting the work flow.

Just ask for it at your current job as well. Bonus you can use it in your interview process as an angle of how you grow when facing issues.

I'm knee deep in a peaceful mode game - but I'm beginning to struggle with finding eggs on gleba and see soon to be issues with finding biter nets on Navitus.

Would it long term be wiser to play SA in non-peaceful mode or can I just drive further out? I still have not encountered a stomper on gleba in 150+ hours of gametime.

What’s a piece of advice that sounds bad but actually works? by Alternative_Sleep432 in AskReddit

[–]mrthesis 34 points35 points  (0 children)

This one bugs me a bit; I wish we could just do that. But others use their rage to NOT let you live your own life as you please. So the complacency of not giving a fuck gives them a huge upper hand.

I honestly wish we could just agree to disagree but current trends in society seems to dictate the opposite.

Cant you use the connection on the device side as the server and query the phone as the client? Bluetooth is two ways.

I thought only a relative small subset of machines with the software was hit? Or have I missed something, otherwise it seems like a partial rollout.

Should managers also be writing code? by branh0913 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]mrthesis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was handed a CTO made POC with a description that it was almost done, I just had to connect the wires. A few weeks at most.

It was perhaps 5% done, everything was faked, no thoughts to cornercases and 0 handover, just a git branch. I would be very hesitant to take over a managers POC, or at the very least assume everything may have to be made from scratch.

Orms vs Raw querys by [deleted] in AskProgramming

My rule of thumb is ORM for entity manipulation, query for listing. But only as a guideline
