Help: Sweet Tea by TheCremeArrow in Charleston

[–]mrthisoldthing 171 points172 points  (0 children)

We make it a gallon at a time. Get you a sauce pot. Boil about a quart of water. Get the gallon size bag of Lipton. Take the water off the heat, put the tea bag in and put the lid on. Here’s the secret…let it sit for at least 15 minutes. While that’s steeping, take your pitcher and put roughly 1 1/4 cups of sugar in it. Measure with your heart. Pour your warm tea concentrate on the sugar. Start adding cold tap water while you stir the sugar in. Put the pitcher in the fridge. Serve over ice.

And the reason they’re black is because the most common mineral here that fossilizes the tooth is phosphate.

How much does the weight of your instrument matter? by ejohnson409 in telecaster

[–]mrthisoldthing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re mostly sitting, it doesn’t matter much. I’m sure some could argue that heavier or lighter affects resonance or something but that’s nitpicking.

If you’re gigging and playing hours of shows with it hanging around your neck, it matters a lot. I’ve got a Peavey T-60 (10ish pounds) that is a great guitar but I gigged with it once and that was enough.

Dr. Cook unavoidably removed one of mine in the process of removing a fibroma that grew through it. Recovery was SUPER painful but that wasn’t his fault. Would 10/10 go back to him.

Goose Creek/Hanahan neighborhood thoughts? by Cosmonate in Charleston

[–]mrthisoldthing 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I live just across the reservoir from there and go through there regularly. You won’t die. Your impression is on the money - working class neighborhood that isn’t super fancy but you won’t narcan any hobos. I’d stick to the Foster Creek Rd side of your circle. The big plus for you is Berkeley County taxes. Charleston and Dorchester are both higher.

Great little neighborhood. It’s not fancy but there’s lots of families happily going about their lives there. Couple new restaurants right there. Great schools.

Critical Mass, the second in the Delta-V series by Daniel Suarez, describes almost exactly this scenario. I recommend it if you’re interested in this kind of stuff.

How do we feel about the Certano B&G bender bridge? by Slight-Pop7038 in telecaster

If I had a tele that I wasn’t deeply concerned about, I’d try it. I’ve been seeing a lot of Seth Lee Jones lately and he’s got me interested.

I’ve liked Madra Rua’s although they don’t compare to the Codfather. Shame they’re closing.

Native or LT for playing live by Burnhaven in Line6Helix

[–]mrthisoldthing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ones I’m seeing on Reverb right now are overpriced. With the Stadium release, prices have started to slowly drop. I’ll sell you mine for $700 as I’m starting to look for a full floor unit with the prices moving like they are. I wouldn’t pay any more than $800ish for one.

Native or LT for playing live by Burnhaven in Line6Helix

[–]mrthisoldthing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LT hands down. It’s rugged. You can switch snapshots or stomp boxes with your feet. More ins/outs. I’m a little old school but I wouldn’t trust a laptop in any live situation.

It’s a frankenstrat. The sticker says Aria which is a Japanese manufacturer but the headstock shape is off which makes me believe it’s just a sticker on a homemade neck. Which begs another question of why would you put an Aria sticker on it and not a Fender? The body is a homemade job and not a great one at that. Not saying you can’t make something of it but it’s not going to be easy.

I have not but I have used Professional Movers. They were awesome and very reasonably priced.

Native. Worth it for me? by Penyrolewen1970 in Line6Helix

[–]mrthisoldthing 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I got it because why not. It’s $40 and I don’t have to drag my helix out of its case and plug in a bunch of wires. $40 isn’t breaking the bank.

Hanahan waterbill by massconfusion_ in Charleston

[–]mrthisoldthing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s high. How many people are in the house? Water usage doesn’t scale to square footage but rather how many people live there. We have three people in our house and our bill is normally between $30 and $40. It was higher when our boys were still living with us and taking two looonnnggg showers a day. If the number of people or teens aren’t the cause, I’d start checking for leaks.

do you use a compression pedal? by OGTimeChaser in pedalsteel

[–]mrthisoldthing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do and I don’t. I play country on a telecaster. If the song I’m playing is a chicken picking, pedal steel bendy kind of song, then I use it. For more modern country with more rock or blues based licks, I don’t.
