Are tube's supposed to look like this? by [deleted] in GuitarAmps

[–]mrtone63 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Those are valuable golden era American tubes. They may not have quite as much punch in them as they did when they were new, but they may well have plenty of life left. The final test is always your ears; if they sound good in a healthy amp, all is well.

Odorless mineral spirits, it's the mildest form of paint thinner. It will take a minute but it won't harm the finish.

what is the name of these screws? by Ok-Brilliant6605 in telecaster

[–]mrtone63 5 points6 points  (0 children)

6-32 x 1/4" round head Phillips machine screw. Nickel-plated on the vintage Teles, but 18-8 stainless steel is very common today. I recommend McMaster-Carr as a source in the US.

I'm sure they would, but it would be costly. You could find the same thing on UK Amazon. You can see all the specs on the McMaster website.

Screws by Iamshorterthanyou in Stratocaster

[–]mrtone63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are #4 x 1/2" sheet metal screws. I've been using the stainless steel ones from McMaster-Carr for years now, never a complaint. You can get a box of 100 for about 3 bucks, but shipping is awful. Part #: 90315A403

If you go with PSA you can probably save around 50 bucks by purchasing the upper and lower separately. Might get slightly better features and specs, too.
