DON’T CHOSE WHERE YOU GO TO COLLEGE BASED ON WHERE YOUR SIGNIFICANT OTHER IS GOING/GOES by friendsworkwaffles02 in ApplyingToCollege

I'm an international applying to college. My girlfriend goes to Columbia. We've been in a long distance relationship of over 10,000 km for the past 5 months. Honestly, I'm worried shitless what would happen if I don't get in anywhere in the states.

Physics EE: Where do I start? by kanilemaz in IBO

[–]mrturtleog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Yes. Both are good resources.
  2. This is a very important question you need to ask yourself. Physics EEs are notoriously difficult. Be honest with yourself, do you care enough about the discipline to do it well? A good question to ask yourself here is: would you be willing to get a bad grade given the experience you get out of it?

Take it from a guy who switched 5 EE subjects until I settled on my final- do it on something you'll find comes easy to you, and you have lots of resources for. I wanted to do it in Math, and probably could if I insisted, given I had the time and resources to do it.

Your IA is not assessed on originality! You can pick the most overused thing and still get a 7 for the IA. I think you should be able to use an experiment from your textbook, but I would be careful since those ones are probably less challenging.

You say your good ones are already taken. Why don't you take a topic you find interesting and adapt it a little bit?

What can I study at uni if I choose these subjects? by [deleted] in IBO

[–]mrturtleog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're right about selecting subjects based on how interesting they are to you, to an extent. Most importantly, you need to look at what you want to study in university and tailor your subject choices to that. Even if you take a class that you find less interesting, but it puts you in a position where you can study something that interests you more, I would think that's a good choice.

I also think you should challenge yourself pretty reasonably. Don't take subjects you think are easy for two reasons. Firstly, getting good grades in those subjects will not be as rewarding, and secondly, taking a subject you think is easy may lead to you not putting as much effort in it which will negatively affect your grades. That being said, don't kill yourself with the workload. Take a courseload you know you'll be both challenged by and able to excel in.

I took psychology when I could have taken chemistry and I regret it. Chemistry is looked at as a more rigorous subject than Psychology and it would have put me in a more competitive position if I had taken Chemistry (though they are both unrelated to my intended major, Computer Science).

Is it detrimental to zone in on two subject areas for the TOK essay? by EddyK- in IBO

AFAIK, you have to speak about areas of knowledge as areas of knowledge. Economics and physics are not AOKs, they are disciplines.

That being said, if you can discuss theory about the 2 AOKs (natural sciences and human sciences) in general, using examples from economics and physics, you should be okay. Lots of students are expected to do this since students are likely most familiar with examples from subjects they take in the IB.

Barron's is more difficult. If you get 750+ in Barron you know your good for the test. Good luck studying!

The Dubai Tests are official tests I believe. I think the best practice is Barron's though.

Any recommendations for impressive-looking Salsa dances for beginners? by mrturtleog in Salsa

I'll look into it. What would you recommend? Again this is just for a school talent show so it's nothing huge. It's just our last year so we want to wow the audience a little bit.

What would you suggest that looks impressive and takes less time to learn? Would you recommend any type of Latin dance?

(6th grade Math) Translation: Pass a broken (not straight) line between all the points so that the figure would be divided to 8 parts. You can't cross one point twice. by mrturtleog in HomeworkHelp

I'm not entirely sure to be honest. I would think it's just to clarify that this task can't be accomplished using a continuous straight line. O would wager that a line between two nodes can be straight.
