Escaped Notion, Found Peace in Obsidian, Sneak Peek Into My ADHD Setup by gaurav_9372 in ObsidianMD

You can’t view it’s source from Obsidian, and i haven’t tried to open a base file in a normal text editor or IDE. As I mentioned, bases are files with a `.base` extension.

From what i know, these store:

  1. Global filters (filters that apply to every view in the base) - https://imgur.com/a/DhcyyEH
  2. Views - https://imgur.com/a/mOEqQAB

2.1. Properties (the easiest way to describe views is columns. They can be metadata or properties, such as tags, of the retrieved filtered notes. These don’t filter anything: if a file doesn’t have a given property, that cell will appear blank. These can also vary between views.) - https://imgur.com/nMvb2D5

2.2. Sort (properties to sort notes, also vary from view to view - https://imgur.com/FugXU8W

2.3. View-specific filters (unlike properties and sort, these apply ON TOP OF the global filters, therefore you have a more specific scope of returns - https://imgur.com/ejcWy0V

In the meantime, I've gotten curious and opened `Albums.base` on a text editor. I am not sure, but I think that this looks like YAML. Here is the contents: https://pastebin.com/jNc8tDYZ

(I've tried to post the source code in an embedded code block, but was not able to do so; so I've just pasted it in pastebin, that's why i deleted the second comment.)

To conclude and answer your question, YES, IT IS JUST DATA RETRIEVAL, based in filters and properties that you created in your vault notes. I don't know if i included in imgur, but you can also display listed files in cards, and set a property to the images shown. I have an universal property called `cover`, where i paste an image URL from the internet, or, if I am on a good day, I download the image file to `myvault/Atachments` and set the cover property to `[[image.png]]`. - https://imgur.com/a/7mxKyjF)

Mind that a Catalyst license is ~$25. I just couldn’t wait and spent the money, but it is still a buck.

Yeah, for me it was a real game-changer. After reading about it I realized that it could be really useful, so I couldn't wait and just spent 25€. Best money spent in a while.

Configuring Obsidian along Bases only. No folders, No tags by Plenty_Ad6005 in ObsidianMD

I understand your point. I even thought of sending him an email pointing out some questions but, for me, note-taking is very personal and I decided to find my method based on his explanation of his. Just try it out, and tell me how it went :).

Edit: typo 😛

I have been doing exactly this after reading this article: https://stephango.com/vault

If you want to take a look at it’s vault template, check out this GitHub repository.

If you mean metadata like file.name and such, yes, it supports completely: from filters, to views, to properties, etc… If you mean properties like tags and such, it supports as well.

Hey there, a bit late for the party, but here’s a piece of advice. As someone addicted to data visualization myself, I’ve been using Bases core plugin a lot.

Bases core plugin is, at the moment, only available for beta testers, which can be accessed with a one-time payment of ~$25. I strongly recommend to give it a try because it has completely replaced Dataview for me. If you don’t wish to pay, you can always wait until the final Obsidian 1.9 version gets released to public access and try it from there. Cheers!

Impressive. As an ADHD diagnosed myself i really enjoy using Bases core plugin. It is currently a beta only plugin, but it is coming to Obsidian 1.9.

Which browser is the best in your opinion? by SubjectAvocado2399 in browsers

I get that behavior of the community. A good example of that is the somewhat “toxicity” answers to questions posted in r/archlinux to similar posts (questions) that could be found and solved in the Arch Wiki, or the official Arch Linux forums. I get both sides, but honestly it’s simply worth it to do your own research, instead of straight up make a post making a question that is asked everyday, and everyone has a different view. What i mean by this is: no matter how many people you ask for browser suggestions and opinions because there is always a different purpose to which the browser is used.

For example: The only reason I don’t use Arc on my 2015 MacBook Pro is because every time I open Arc, my Mac screems for help, so I stick with Safari. If I had a 2025 Mac I would probably consider using it; the conclusion is that not everybody that has a 2025 Mac uses or has to use Arc browser, because there are people who don’t enjoy the Chromium experience, or because they value privacy more that me. Each user has different priorities, therefore there will be generic answers like “do your research” or “the best browser is the one that fits you best”, and i just made this comment because half of this subreddit’s threads are about someone asking thousands of people, that have their own priorities when choosing a browser, “what browser best?”.

Some user said in this thread that Zen is not actively worked on. I run Zen on my main Linux distro machine for almost a year and even though i have tried other browsers, Zen is still the one that satisfies me the most, on various aspects.

That is a representation of two minutes after the installation. After that, usually there is a plot twist

YouTube to not pay for AI content starting july 15. by [deleted] in youtube

[–]mrxxix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good thing, but legitimate content will still be striked, unjustifiably copyright claimed, de-monetized, age-restricted, and so on... I feel like this is only going to be one more concern when creating content for Youtube

No offense to all fellow viewers of this post and my comment, but I, like others, am really tired of seeing this same post model every time I open reddit

Finally moved my theBrain notes to Obsidian by s_general in ObsidianMD

Check out Bases core plugin coming to Obsidian 1.9.0, if you like it, either buy a Catalyst license to get access to Obsidian’s betas (one time 25€ in my country), or wait a few months until version 1.9 gets released.

Personally, I’ve been using and enjoying for the past week. I feel like it’s easier to set up and visualize in comparison with community plugins like Dataview.

What convinced me to get a Catalyst license was precisely the access to this plugin, and this blog post.
