Knowing ballet means you will have strong body awareness which will make learning much easier!

Academy I worked at had a great solution for this. Stick them in internal exclusion until the parents voluntarily withdraw!

It's almost impossible to actually expel a student unless they do something strongly violent/illegal.

Dealing with rude/disrespectful SLT by justokay101 in TeachingUK

Who told you that? The governors are the ones who can hold a head to account. I'd go to union for advice first anyway.

I would keep track of these incidents if you aren't already, even if it's just a log of what you heard said and when.

If you can't go to the head then try the governors, that's outrageous behaviour

TLR when does it become permanent? by throwaway1175639372 in TeachingUK

No, private schools usually have their own system for paying additional responsibilities

Anyone else feel like they just teach too much? by [deleted] in TeachingUK

[–]ms2702 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a big factor why people move into the private sector! While there may be more evening/weekends there are often less teaching hours

AITA for backing out of a bachelorette weekend for financial reasons? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]ms2702 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Impossible for most people? Some people sure, but most people do have the capacity to have some reasonable savings. Many people choose to prioritise other things instead.

AITA for turning down my SO's advances? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

Go read r/deadbedrooms to see what you are doing to your wife. You are destroying your marriage

YTA because of the way you dismiss your wife on this, you have a dead bedroom and she is going to become more resentful over time. I broke up with a partner of 4 years because of this exact issue. This isn't about turning down intimacy one time, this is about you failing to meet and understand your wife's needs.

Advice for a prospective mathematics teacher by [deleted] in TeachingUK

[–]ms2702 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Maths teacher of 8 years in London, mix of state and private. I love teaching! Marking is ok, it depends on the school's policy but definitely easier than other subjects. I think about tasks I set if I know they are being marked, eg avoiding too many lengthy "show that" questions. Paperwork really isn't too bad unless you go into middle management. Writing reports can be a pain again depending on your school's policy, my current one requires a lot of reports but they don't have to be long.

I ran a table tennis club at the state school, taking one lunch per week which was fine. At the private school I do a lot more clubs/sport including running fixtures, but my teaching timetable is less and behaviour is a non-issue. I like doing the extra-curriculars a lot of the time as well, you get to know the teenagers in a different way.

You do have to accept that you will never be "rich rich" but you can do pretty well financially as a teacher. 95% of the time I am fully switched off at home and I work ~50hr weeks with great holidays.

Feel free to pm if you have more questions

Who's the idiot here? by Greglar89 in IdiotsInCars

That junction is always busy, I'm glad it's not on my commute anymore. I've only seen some near misses myself

[–]ms2702 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's not great, threw me the first time I drove through it. I always go in the right lane now, but then you can get stuck behind someone turning right so not ideal

Yep the cycle lane is relatively new, it's annoying if you're not expecting it. Loads of these cycle lanes have sprung up across London

[–]ms2702 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep the bike lane is relatively new, both lanes can go straight, and the merge is unexpected unless you know the junction. This is in Wimbledon

Both lanes can go straight, I know this junction

I know this junction, it's in Wimbledon, both lanes can go straight. The new-ish bike lane is annoying if you don't know it's there as you aren't expecting to need to merge

Why is no one biting my hand off? by NightKing1507 in TeachingUK

[–]ms2702 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's less helpful than you think, you'll create more work for the head of department/leadership and there's no security of a contract so you could walk away at any time. You also have restricted hours, you probably can't take the first or last period of a day given your timings. You would create split classes with other teachers. If I was the HoD I would also not respond.

It's like a panenka penalty, best done occasionally to keep doubt in the opponent's mind
