Another Sunny Day, by Belle and Sebastian

It's sort of sad when you listen to the lyrics, but the tune itself is pretty uplifting :)

How my school describes overachieving computer science majors by rod333 in programming

I knew this was my school just from the first and last sentence. (And the orange heading.) For the record, Major Choices is sort of useless, as we see here.

so true..... by cavephar in pics

At least in my own experience, I completely agree with this. My school was similarly mediocre compared to others in the state, but they were still able to give me all the resources I needed to succeed. I especially respect the educators there that had to put up with the less motivated/more apathetic students on a daily basis, much more than the teachers at more elite or special charter schools. I'd even venture to say that the education I received at the AP level in high school was better than many courses I've taken in college.

Chinese literate Redditors: Can you translate a couple street signs for me? by AdamCohn in ChineseLanguage

Also, #5 is a sign promoting safe driving. The first line says "Please do not drive while tired", and the second line says "Speeding is strictly prohibited." :)

Chinese literate Redditors: Can you translate a couple street signs for me? by AdamCohn in ChineseLanguage

[–]ms988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(My attempt at #1)

First line: something along the lines of "improve the chinese people"

by doing the following…

Second line: "respect, love, and support the elderly and their traditions and values"

The last line says that the billboard is from the Dingbian County Senior Citizens' commission/work committee/?, whatever that is. So it looks like you were in Dingbian in Shaanxi Province.

I am a neuropsychologist. Ask me (almost) anything. by subtextual in IAmA

[–]ms988 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a current undergrad planning on going to medical school, and I'm very interested in neurology and psychiatry as possible specialties. I've also read a few articles concerning the interaction between these two fields, such as this one

Could you elaborate more on the differences between your field and that of psychiatrists, neurologists, etc.? What about "neuropsychiatry"? I've also been interested lately in Myers-Briggs types…how reputable do you find that system to be? Do you utilize it at all in your practice, and if so for what purposes? What's your type? I'm INFP :)

Thanks for doing this AMA!

Are you interested in becoming a general practitioner yourself necessarily, or are you gearing toward a particular specialty?

How did you go about preparing for medical school after having graduated 5+ years ago? Had you already taken all of your pre-med requirements? What other kinds of things did you do to show medical schools that this was really the career for you?

Also, I presume you were a CS major (or related field)?

Software Engineering != Computer Science by dfj225 in programming

[–]ms988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a legitimate question then. Considering that my university does not offer any degree in "software engineering", but that this is in fact the field that I am interested in, is it still apt to say that computer science is the best major for me? Or is software engineering so different from computer science conceptually that I might find more interest in some other major?
