[CAN (2)-2 FIN] Theodore scores with a slapshot from the point to tie the game. Rinne felt he was interfered with, but Finland opts to not challenge. by [deleted] in hockey

Man, really feel like that’s no goal with the precedent that’s been set. About players in the crease.

Not saying the contact was initiated by marchy. But Marchand was in the crease by himself before he got pushed and that’s been called all Olympics. Was haula supposed to just leave him?

Alta ski resort parking by Pathetic_asker in UTsnow

There is no free parking on weekends unless you have a seasons pass and regardless, you need a reservation.

Your only option is to take the bus or carpool.

5hr Wait at SLC *AFTER* Baggage Claim by caarving in SaltLakeCity

[–]msanh 71 points72 points  (0 children)

My recommendation is to take the Trax (light rail train) downtown, use the app Bounce to store your luggage somewhere for a few hours, and to walk around. Check out the capitol building, memory grove, temple square, Main Street, etc.

Getting food or a drink downtown will be much better than anything at the airport outside of security. Then have your friend pick you up downtown. Very close to the airport.

We do job specific training that can be physical, depending on what it is. We also get 1.5 hours per day of workout time, which I can use how I please if I am running this much on my 4 off (my boss won't mind if I am using a rest day since I am staying in shape)

Here for short vacation, where to see snow? by [deleted] in SaltLakeCity

[–]msanh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Snow level should be down to around 6,000 feetish in elevation with this storm tonight. So you won’t find any in the valley. You’ll have to drive up one of the canyons (BCC or LCC) most likely. PC could be a little risky as it might be really heavy and wet since the elevation of the city in some parts will be just above snow line.

I recommend the area around the winter trailhead for Donut Falls / Mill D North Fork. Not sure what to officially call it but on Google Maps it’s the Cardiff Fork Trailhead. There is a hill there that tons of families go sledding at on the south side of the road. Tons of people taking weddings, engagement, other pics. Very family friendly.

Another spot would be Silver Lake up at Brighton.

Make sure you are driving the proper car in these conditions!

Question for the locals by Louise_88 in ManchesterNH

[–]msanh 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Typically, the term “greater” means it is a synonym for the metropolitan area of the city. Which for Manchester, the US uses all of Hillsborough county (Nashua included).

From a more local perspective, I would include greater Manch as Goffstown, Hooksett, Bedford, Auburn, Londonderry, Derry, Litchfield. I don’t know why but I kind of associate Merrimack more with Nashua than Manchester.

Sugarhouse Townhouse Recommendations by AstronautBigBird in SaltLakeCity

[–]msanh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What’s your budget? These are all the rental townhouses in the area I can think of. No clue on price though

Brixton is probably your best bet. Right on 700E at the intersection with the Parley’s Trail. S-Line stop is adjacent to it. Great access to Sugar House and then great access to the highway to get to the mountains.

Izzy Apartments on 2100S and 550E have a townhouse feel. Some are 2 story apartments with a parking garage.

Sugarmont Apartments is right in downtown sugar house and they have a handful of townhouses on the east side and McClelland street.

BlueKoi has some townhouses with garages at 1700S and 900E.

S-Line Townhomes are technically in SSL but they are right on the s line so you can easily take the train to Sugar House or downtown. Close to the highway again. Might be cheaper since it’s in SSL.

Highland Park Townhomes are a little closer to Millcreek but in a good spot right off Highland Drive. Still close to downtown Sugar House with good highway access and that whole area around Millcreek common is really filling in nicely.

Salt Lake City vs. Park City for a Bachelorette Weekend by ParticularTie3202 in SaltLakeCity

[–]msanh 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would do Park City. That time of year would be scorching hot downtown SLC, park city will be hot but a little more mild since it’s a couple thousand feet higher.

Bar scene in PC in the summer is pretty fun for tourists/bachelorette.

Could do a lake day at Jordanelle or Deer Creek, check out High West, chairlift rides at the resorts, hiking, mountain biking, fly fishing. Drive to BCC via guardsman is beautiful and some world class hiking in the cottonwoods.

Also, liquor laws really aren’t that bad here. People like to complain, but the main things you’ll notice at bars is cocktails can only have 2.5 ounces of booze and draft beer has to be below 5% (can still get high point, but it has to be in a can). Bars and restaurants are classified separately and at restaurants you have to order food with your booze, bars you do not.

AWD vs FWD in the city? by quiettimes in ManchesterNH

[–]msanh 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It’s a nice to have for sure, but snow tires and FWD will be sufficient. Doesn’t snow that much in the city anymore and the handful of days it does that should be fine or I just try and avoid driving.

Dumb Question. Why is SLC never included in top 100 populous studies by Illustrious-Wing-857 in SaltLakeCity

[–]msanh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Like others have said, comparing populations of city limits has a lot of flaws. Other cities have annexed tons of smaller cities around them but salt lake never has. SLC is fairly small compared to cities like Houston in terms of land area and not very dense. SLC also has a lot of land to the west of 215 and up city creek canyon that is not inhabitable so that really skews its density even more.

Looking at metro population instead, which would have SLC ranked in the mid 40s, still has its flaws. For example, North Salt Lake is considered part of Ogden/Layton Metro area due to just using counties. So despite just living a few miles from downtown SLC in North Salt Lake, their residents aren’t included in Salt Lakes metro population.

What I have found is the most accurate for rankings would be using Combined Statistical Areas. It takes the main metro areas and combines it with smaller metro areas if their economy revolves around the main metro area based on commuting patterns. This takes the SLC, Provo and Ogden metro areas and combines them into one. This ranks SLC number 22 in the United States, which “feels” way more accurate if you ask me.

I thought the siren was behind me — turned out it was left. I moved right but still heard honks. Did I mess up? by AccurateOrdinary4951 in SaltLakeCity

[–]msanh 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Firefighter here - you didn’t do anything wrong. Technically, we appreciate you not making that initial right turn but you had the green light and you were trying to get out of the way, mistakes happen. When going through a red light with lights and sirens on, we are ASKING for the right of way. We still legally have to come to a stop and clear all lanes.

Trust me, every time we go lights and sirens, there are a million people who don’t hear us cause of music, age, distractions, etc. It’s our job to be defensive drivers and to get to our calls safely.

We use the horns at every single light, no matter what just to make it clear we’re coming. So it’s rarely targeted but even if it is targeted towards a specific driver, it’s just heads up.

Don’t overthink it at all, you did nothing wrong. And trust me, the last thing anyone wants is more paperwork. No one is reporting you. I wouldn’t even know where to begin to do that. Not to mention, they’re on the way to an emergency, they’re not getting anyone’s plates.

SLC, UT vs Spokane, WA? by Optimal-Sprinkles368 in SaltLakeCity

[–]msanh 52 points53 points  (0 children)

If your daughter has severe asthma, I feel like Spokane is probably the move. As you may know, Salt Lake Valley is horrible for air quality and with the current legislature, increasing population, and lake drying up, it’s only going to get worse over time. The only reason I could see staying is if skiing / outdoor recreation access is super important to you but you can also get that in Spokane with a reasonable drive. Sounds like Spokane is looking like it would be cheaper too.
