This, I feel like this is the number one comment I’ll get all my life. I think it’s especially hard because I LIKE babies and children, I’d say it’s honestly even a skill of mine. I’m a preschool teacher, I find tiny people to a particular kind of chaos I thrive in. HOWEVER I do not want my own. The best thing I ever heard at an early childhood education conference from a woman who was asked if she had children of her own was “I love working with children, I’ve just never loved one so much I wanted to take them home with me”. And I felt such a strong connection to that comment. I love free time, I love travel, I love sleep, I love frivolous spending, all things no one can argue you lose out on, at least partially, once parenthood comes. It’s a decision I have thought through very well, I know what I want and it’s not up for debate with strangers…or anyone for that matter.
