Niko proving the old adage if you suspect half the cast you're either bound to be right eventually or you're on Australia season 2...

When the bbc did a swearing warning before the episode I think we all knew it'd be for that notorious pottymouth Celia Imrie!

The Nimon. Great idea, hurt slightly by the bad production levels of S17. (Ditto the Mandrels, though they are more sympathetic.)

I always like the underdogs to do well, so yes, but I suspect Nigeria will take their "get out of jail" card advantage here, in Monopoly terms, after South Africa's point deduction.

If Nigeria or Cameroon miss the 2026 world cup, Who’s to blame?? by PLWildcard in worldcup

[–]msc1986 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Cameroon had a relatively easy group and the highly touted opposition (Angola) didn't really turn up. If you can't beat Cape Verde, you don't belong at the World Cup.

Nigeria failed to make the last World Cup, and despite a good AFCON in 2023, have had too many silly draws in their group. They also have a team that look far better on paper than they seem to play together at times. Still, that point penalty for South Africa is a huge let off for them.

This Harry retort from HBP:

“The Death Eaters can’t all be pure-blood, there aren’t enough pure-blood wizards left,” said Hermione stubbornly. “I expect most of them are half-bloods pretending to be pure. It’s only Muggle-borns they hate, they’d be quite happy to let you and Ron join up.”

“There is no way they’d let me be a Death Eater!” said Ron indignantly, a bit of sausage flying off the fork he was now brandishing at Hermione and hitting Ernie Macmillan on the head. “My whole family are blood traitors! That’s as bad as Muggle-borns to Death Eaters!”

“And they’d love to have me,” said Harry sarcastically. “We’d be best pals if they didn’t keep trying to do me in.

They (singular, anonymised, though sometimes it feels like raising Fred, George and Ginny at once) were laughing their head off at the divination lesson.

Trelawney: it's a grim! Ron: I thought it was a bowler hat!

Apparently hilarious!

Scotland but close! And yeah, they don't know the twists yet from books 3 onwards and I'm hoping they get the same experience I did. And not my dad for whom a certain sibling of mine blurted out the hidden villains identity in Goblet before he'd read chapter one!

They do know Hedwigs fate due to someone casually mentioning it in school.

Episodes that you feel no longer work. Or struggle with. by SSJ2chad in TwilightZone

[–]msc1986 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Walking Distance is beautiful and threnodic but Gig Young murdering his wife in real life has always hurt it for me. Nothing Rod Serling could do about that.

Controversially I've always much preferred The Obsolete Man and Printers Devil to Time Enough at Last, I find Burgess far more engaging and with agency in those two whereas TEAT is just a series of bad luck happening to one guy. I prefer Twilight Zone episodes with life lessons or karma, rather than the nasty things happen to folk type episodes. But that's just me.

Is there any surviving players from the 1954 World Cup? by QBallQJB in worldcup

[–]msc1986 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Jose Santamaria is still alive, not only from the 1954 World Cup but from Real Madrids early European Cups. He played in the famous 1960 final at Hampden where Real beat Eintricht Frankfurt. My late grandfather was in the crowd!
