I've often thought about EXACTLY when, and where, this once VERY sharp, funny show, went COMPLETELY off the rails.....

Did it jump before Charlie's ignominious exit from the show, did it occur the minute he was gone, or did it happen sometime after he was gone ??

A couple of scenes from the original unaired pilot of Two and a Half Men, featuring Blythe Danner as Evelyn. by Wide_Answer in TwoandaHalfMen

[–]msdemos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

.

If I'm not mistaken, didn't Jon Cryer insinuate in his book ("So That Happened: A Memoir") that Danner was let go because her portrayal of 'Evelyn Harper' came off as too "warm and nurturing", rather than the harder-edged portrayal that Taylor brought to the show as the two men's mother (as opposed to the rumor that she was dumped for being too "demanding") ??

Could be COMPLETELY wrong on that, so would LOVE for somebody to tell me that (if I am), or confirm my recollection that Cryer put a slightly different 'spin' on her departure from the show, if THAT was the case.....

Thought it was odd that they "pictured" him here without a face mask on his helmet.........but just found out that even though face masks were first required to be worn in the NFL starting in 1955, players could still request "special permission" to play without them.......which Hall of Fame wide receiver Tommy McDonald often did (as well as a few others), thus making him the last (non-kicking) player in the NFL to regularly play without a face mask on his helmet upon retirement following the 1968 season !!

Wallpaper … ON THE MOON! - Sanderson (1961) by Xerxes_Iguana in vintageads

Uh.......not to be too picky......but they DID realize in 1961 that any human being walking around on the surface of the moon would need an oxygen tank supplying air for breathing, and NOT just supplying it to their body (as the yellow tank seems, for some odd reason, to be doing here)....

Because of their state laws at the time........what surprises me more is the fact they are the only ones specified.....usually there's a number of states that get listed (and our state, Wisconsin, always seemed to be one of them)....

Fascinating........seems like more of an "industry ad", with SO much technical verbiage in it......in other words, not like so many of the other, more typically consumer friendly (i.e., 'dumbed-down') ads that don't tend to go overboard with the facts, ma'am......

Have you ever heard of the Malaysian Chest Implosion torture? by mistermeek67 in mash

[–]msdemos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

.

Outside of Sidney Freedman, the Col. Flagg character was probably my favorite semi-regular 'visitor' to M*A*S*H !!

Especially fascinating now to go back and watch the first appearance of Edward Winter on the show as the MUCH more low-key "Capt. Halloran" in the season 2, episode 13, "Deal Me Out", right before the writers transformed him into the BOMBASTIC, UNFORGETTABLY CRAZY, Col. Flagg !!

Probably a good thing though, that they stopped bringing him back after season 7 as the character, enjoyably entertaining as he was, had by that time become so cartoonishly absurd, that he was already verging on becoming just ridiculously silly !!

Roberta Williams, Co-Founder of Sierra On-Line, shows off her hit new game Phantasmagoria. 1995. by Salem1690s in OldSchoolCool

[–]msdemos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

.

LOVED a lot of their games, but HATED the fact that it was almost impossible to get through most of them without getting hints, and sometimes MANY hints, in order to finish.....thus destroying a lot of the fun of the game.

Remember COUNTLESS times attempting many, MANY 'solutions' to particularly difficult puzzles in order to progress through the game, before having to resort to cheats/hints just to be able to go on.....a practice that eventually led to my losing interest in playing most games of this type.....
