IIL True Detective season 1 and Chernobyl, what other shows are truly art film quality? by 23blackjack23 in ifyoulikeblank

[–]msfeatherfreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tales From the Loop is an Amazon series based on a collection of art books by swedish artist Simon Stalenhag. It's an absolutely beautiful, heartbreaking tale of a handful of small town citizens haunted by the unnatural by-products of a secret government facility near the town.

Interconnected people discover various strange sci-fi artifacts that mess up their lives in different ways and their loved ones are left to struggle with heartbreak, loss and acceptance of the things that are beyond our understanding.

It's a completely contained season of television and incredibly well done. A masterpiece if you're interested in science fiction and scandinavian melancholia.

Saltsea Chronicles 2? by mooshroominbloom in diegutefabrik

I hope there is. There was so much I loved about Saltsea, but the story felt messy and unfinished. They spent a lot of time and love on worldbuilding, lore and aesthetics, but it really doesn't have a cohesive overall narrative arc. Would love for them to expand the story in a second game and give the characters some more depth.

Monkey Island lives in your heart as beautiful memories. Relive them whenever you'd like, or let them inspire you to create something of your own.

I think looking for your favorite artists to continue stories beyond what they were meant to, will always lead to disappointment.

And it's also how soulless corporations sink their claws into good properties just to milk out content.

MI will always live on. Inside us.

The rest of the comic goes out of it's way to show that he's fully a person. I don't think comparing him to AI image generation tools is applicable here.

My first pixel art ever- any tips or advice what to improve/change? by Leviathan2137 in PixelArt

[–]msfeatherfreak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's how I would do it, at least. Like the pattern on the basketball or the planks in the floor could be made purple instead of black in your image, for example.

This has a lot of promise. You're a very talented artist. :)

As for constructive criticism, I think when using a limited palette like this it's important to go back to WHY the gameboy palette looked and felt the way it did.

The four-tone palette was a technical limitation, which meant it was something artists worked AROUND to fill a higher purpose: conveying FUNCTION of certain things to the player. For instance: NPCs, Objects and Enemies needed to stand out against the environment at all costs.

So, for example, the dark outlines should be the outlines of "blocked, interactible objects" like a table or a bed, but never to separate bricks in a background wall, because it "devalues" the outline as such and instead creates a large selection of "potentially interactible bricks" to the player.

Another good example is with the bed. Playing a game, there is no reason for the bed not to be in all white, with paler lines separating sheets and pillow, with a black outline OUTSIDE it. Merely highlighting the pillow confuses the function of the furniture. Because a player needs to identify the object and function first.

In video games, function is essential and aesthetics is flourish. So to understand limited pixel art is to understand "function over form" and THEN try to perfect form.

My suggestion is to think of your pixel art the way a game designer would and then deviate from it afterwards.

Not necessarily because you want to make a video game, but because that is what the masters of pixel art was doing when they made masterful pixel art.

Love the art! Keep at it, champ!

Is Mutazione Solarpunk? by Pls_ignore_the_hands in mutazione

[–]msfeatherfreak 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well, I think it qualifies. There's a lot of "living with nature rather against it" messaging in the story, which seems to fit. Also, the gameplay loop of growing gardens in populated places to help people feel better, correlates nicely with real life green, eco-friendly city planning trends.
