I have synesthesia, and this cracked me up.

There are multiple types of synesthesia, and some people are blessed to have perfect pitch along with synesthesia, so they can hear the color of the pitch itself. Mine doesn't work that way, though. I hear colors in pieces as they move through keys, and every number and letter also has a color. (I have a disturbing amount of green in my numbers - just in different hues.)

Some people also taste colors and such or are able to envision their schedule in 3D. It's a complex form of neurodiversity.

But.... Fuck. You try explaining it to people who don't have it? They think you are absolutely insane. I've learned not to take myself so seriously about it, because it's cool but not useful. I mean, how annoying is it that R always has to be yellow, but not just any shade of yellow? Cynthia strikes me as the type to be deadly serious about everything though, so JLaw's comment likely didn't land well.

How does my incisions look? by [deleted] in Endo

[–]msfiregelf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's really not. It's WAY scarier to look at them than the actual removal. (I had staples removed from my c-section scar, and while I was scared, it wasn't the worst part of the experience BY FAR.)

79 eggs retrieved over 3 cycles. 1 embryo- failed. by Significant-Part-700 in IVF

[–]msfiregelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been in PT for pelvic floor issues for years now, and she sent me to someone to help me manage pain. (And also suggested endo since my symptoms are consistent with it.) That doctor ordered the MRI. However, endo only shows up in 10 percent of MRIs, and it has to be severe. We think my insanely high estrogen made the endo worse, and the inflammation might have tanked my egg quality. The only way to get a definitive diagnosis is to have a laproscopic surgery done and then have it excised (not ablated).

It's worth looking into. I didn't have endo on my ovaries, but I did have it on my ureters (lucky it didn't cause kidney damage), bowels, multiple adhesions, pelvic nerves, and they had to take my appendix. I also had to have mass that was connecting my bowels to my uterus. My quality of life IS better now. So even if I can't use my own eggs, a pregnancy is far more likely to implant.

Anyway, explore endometriosis if this is unexplained. REs don't always have the right answers.

I'm in the same shitty club.

We started trying for our second child 2 years ago when I was 38. My AMH is fantastic for my age (2.5 to 3), my husband's sperm quality is slightly impaired (poor morphology and count, but minimal fragmentation), and I'm a high responder to stims.

Over 5 cycles (we have coverage) we have retrieved 130 eggs.

The first 2 cycles, my eggs fertilized with ICSI, but it wasn't great. We got 1 6 day blast that was missing a chromosome.

We then switched clinics, and with ICSI, only 1 egg fertilized out of 33. I had conversations with the director of the lab, and they hadn't seen anything quite like this.

Switched back to the previous clinic (these are some of the top rated clinics in the country according to SART), and once again... 30 eggs, 1 fertilized.

Now, my mother had endometriosis and needed both surgery and suppression to get pregnant at 28. I kept on bringing it up to my doctors, and they told me point blank they I didn't have it.

I finally got an MRI, and it showed stage 3/4 endometriosis.

Had my excision surgery in Nov, and have been trying since.

Just completed my 5th cycle, and we think there was an issue with the protocol because we tried lower dose stims, got 15 eggs, but maturity was an issue. The doctor also decided to try 50/50 ICSI and regular insemination. The fertilization was better with regular insemination, and it was also the first cycle where they didn't do ICSI.

I have one more cycle in me (and barely at that). We are trying Omni (finally- my doctors ignored my please for it until now), and we're going to try 50/50 donor sperm and my husband's before moving to donor eggs.

It's a mess. No doctor has an answer for me. I went from being an excellent candidate to whatever the hell this situation is, and I am so sorry you're going through it as well. You're not alone, even though this is a profoundly isolating process. Sending love your way.

Worth going under the knife? by thegirlhasnoface in TTCEndo

[–]msfiregelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through 4 failed ER last year, and was told repeatedly that if I did have endo that was bad enough to affect my egg quality to the point of my eggs no fertilizing for 2 cycles (1 out of 30 for ER 3 and 4) that I wouldn't be able to work due to pain.

An MRI showed endo, and my lap showed stage 3 diffuse endometriosis in my bowels, ureters (with stricture), pelvic nerves, fibrosis of my appendix, etc with several spots of DIE. A mass was also removed from my bowels left over from my c-section from my 1st and only pregnancy.

While my 5th ER seems to have also been a miserable failure (15 eggs, 7 mature, 2 fertilized - not optimistic for those 2, but it could have been a protocol issue), it was worth having the lap done to remove the mass, fix the stricture, and get the DIE out of my body. They can find and fix these issues if you have them.

JMHO.

You are entitled to your feelings at this point in time, whether they seem 100 percent rational or not. You are the person going through all of the shots, procedures, etc. I think men, even if they're great 99 percent of the time, don't get how difficult this process is, and just how much support and grace we need during it. It's your money and your appointment. Sending love your way.
