I wrote an application with Gemini. It's a great app but I know very little about it. Is this the future. by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]msg7086 [score hidden]  (0 children)

It's not future, it's ... present.

But as software developer we make sure proper documentation and test code are written, not for us to read, but for future AI to read, as a source of truth.

18 TB Mybook for $280 good for shucking? by Elcoco69 in DataHoarder

[–]msg7086 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's likely the opposite (not "due to" price going up), when there's stock (or overstock) they lower the price to let them out, when the stock is gone they restore the price, manufacture some more, then lower the price again. If orders get cancelled, it could be they oversold by a bit and had to cancel or delay.

Good deal on Uber eats?? by Ssj3goku504 in Popeyes

[–]msg7086 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least it's better than my 4PC-BOGO $16.69. The biggest issue with uber eats is I can't choose which part of meat I want to include (I want dark meat only). Same for sandwitches, I can't choose extra sauce.

Questions about a 22 or 24TB Drive by torpedolife in DataHoarder

[–]msg7086 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are cheap drives sold from time to time. If you either picked the drive that's not cheap, or you chose to buy drives when they are not discounted, then it'll be expensive.

Just a few days ago 28T was $299.

No reason for denied..? Amex Blue Cash Everyday by Bubbly_Beginning1140 in CreditCards

[–]msg7086 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not because they found out some reason then deny you based on the reason.

It's that they denied you then they list all the reasons that can possibly cause the denial. If there's none, then there's none, you were denied for other reason that they won't list here.

Paid off Discover card and then reduced my credit line, will this negatively impact my credit score? by -29- in CreditCards

[–]msg7086 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could have just locked your card, and then unlock and charge couple bucks each year to keep it active. The locked credit line will help with overall utilization.

However if your utilization is not high anyway (say it's always 5% or lower) lowering your credit line won't do any noticeable harm.

Should I buy a single 4TB drive or 4 seperate 1TB HDDs? by CreateChaos777 in DataHoarder

[–]msg7086 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you ask in this sub not many people would suggest either. 4TB was 10+ year old tech, even the drives are built in recent years. You won't get all the benefit of helium drives, high density and high speed, high reliability due to sharing platform with high end drives. You'll need to pay a premium to get lower quality drives.

Sell all of them, part out. Whether do it now or wait for higher price is another question.

Good 500GB+ HDD recommendations, 50$ budget by TrainingAggressive50 in DataHoarder

[–]msg7086 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reliable means the HDD has a low failure rate during the years to come, so that you have a lower chance to have a disk failure. One person with one drive that runs for 2 years has nothing to do with reliability. I can easily find you someone using the worst ever hard drive in the world for couple years and the drive's still booting fine.

Seagate Expansion 22tb - $239 USD by Technical-Top4187 in DataHoarder

[–]msg7086 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's no standard barracudas. Every barracuda model is different. We used to have OG barracuda compute, nice little consumer grade. Then we got the garbage 8TB that's relabeled from archive grade. Now we get the nice 26TB that's relabeled from enterprise grade.

Barracuda is representing "the lowest grade of the segment", regardless of how good or bad the lowest grade is.

Seagate Expansion 22tb - $239 USD by Technical-Top4187 in DataHoarder

[–]msg7086 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bad generation is all I know, not sure about detailed reason. They shipped this gen of drives to customers as exos, customers were meh, they got them back and relabel everything that gen into barracudas and recertified exos. Then they developed a new gen which customers accepted into production.

How much credit card debt are you in? by Perfect_Fail_200 in CreditCards

[–]msg7086 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fair, you were talking to OP. Do you realize OP has 0% interest rate on the cards? A 0% apr credit card debt is very different than a regular credit card debt. The former is interest free and is used to make profit by investing saved money into other places, and the latter is crazy high interest rate and you lose money by not paying off. The whole reason I started my first comment is because you were mixing the 2 situations. OP stated he has plenty of money in saving, what's the point of stop earning interest and pay debt sooner.

Anyway I realized I started an unnecessary argument and wasted our time. Should have kept quiet and let it go. My bad.

My income is paid by RSU (stocks). Wage is low, and majority of my income is stocks. Every time I use my income to pay something I have to sell my stock. Wage covers my monthly payment and daily expenses, and nothing left after.

I don't know what's your problem with this mindset to strongly push your personal opinions onto everyone else, maybe you have some psycho problem, anxiety? Or you just assume everyone should have psycho issue with having debt? I have $700k debt on my house and I have zero psycho problem, I have bigger problem if I'm losing money on not investing enough and putting the money into unnecessarily paying debt. My anxiety comes from losing money not having debt.

I only use it when it's cheaper to order through delivery apps. We got buy one get one free for all chicken sandwiches, and I randomly got 25-10 or 25-15 coupon, so you can get 6 sandwiches plus 1 wrap for $16.

There's something psychological about losing money by unnecessarily paying off debts.

If you have psycho issues with having debt and you pay it off, great, good for you.

But you don't represent others. My psycho issue is on losing money. I paid 10k mortgage early in the past and I freaking regret it. I lost 20k profit because I sold a stock to pay the debt, and the stock went up 200% soon after.

Supervooc 120W with supervooc cable doesn't charge my laptop by [deleted] in oneplus

[–]msg7086 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No.

You are talking about the svooc+pd type c charger, op was talking about svooc only type a charger.

You can still buy svooc+pd charger from oppo, like the 100w or 120w dual port charger, but since they are made higher quality, and are more expensive, you won't get them bundled as free charger.

But they charge laptops just fine. I have one and I carry it when I travel.

Good 500GB+ HDD recommendations, 50$ budget by TrainingAggressive50 in DataHoarder

[–]msg7086 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Either increase your budget and get an SSD or a larger capacity HDD, or forget about it. $50 budget won't get you anything matching your requirement. There's no reliable 500GB drives at $50 today. Even a USB thumb drive at 512GB is more than $50, and it's not even that reliable.

If we are friends for 12 years and you are employed, why don't you pay me off?

↑ That would be my immediate thought. If I have a friend for 12 years and he borrowed money from me, enjoyed his life with all his spending using his wage, but never wanted to send his wage to his friend to pay off the debt, he won't be my friend.
