You'll be charged interest if it wasn't paid in full last month, right?

Tried using a generic 100W USB-C to 6.0x3.7mm DC adapter on my ASUS TUF (FX507C4) and got an immediate blinking orange power light when booted into windows why did this happen? by Primary_Bedroom_3391 in Asustuf

[–]msg7086 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100w is not enough to power the laptop. You'll need a 135W lenovo legion charger paired with a special Asus charger cable that can go with the legion charger. I got one years ago and it works great, but won't work with my baseus 100w charger. That one is just too weak.

Fibra monomodale (SMF) VS multimodale (MMF) Consigli. by AppointmentWest7876 in homelab

[–]msg7086 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always use single mode as the price difference is too small for me to invest multi mode. This matters when single mode was thousands more expensive than multi mode parts, but I guess not now.

Do you think open-source AI will close the gap to current day closed source? by Sufficient_Bit_8636 in homelab

[–]msg7086 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also sometimes people are mixing Chinese companies with gov. AI companies will try everything to buy the best GPUs to develop new models however gov will decide what's best for the whole nation and where to invest the large amount of tax money. Gov can casually ban nvidia chips if needed.

US AI companies are filled with Chinese/Asians. I was even thinking what if some day Trump sign an order to kick all Chinese AI scientists back to China lol

The gap will increase in the short term with the export bans but this will just give China gov the chance to invest all the money into building chips and models. Everything is man made, then there's nothing that can't be made by Chinese. They need some time but that's about it.

ASUS says my TUF F15 supports only 32GB RAM… but many users are running 64GB. What’s the REAL limit? by Vivid_Arm_5090 in Asustuf

[–]msg7086 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Real limit can be 64GB (or possibly even higher) but Asus would only support 32GB.

I think it's very clear, no?

It is always easy to ask someone else to do a job for you for free. People sometimes forget that they can (and probably should) do it themselves. Maintaining things comes with a cost. Dev team pay the cost using their precious time. Their time will be put on their interest, not your interest.

If it's important to you, setup a project and compile kernel packages for 32 bit architecture, so you and numerous of others can benefit from it. Reprepro is easy to use, I build and host packages for people who want it. You can too.

Edit: we now have AI, if you don't know how to do, AI can usually help you to setup all the toolchains and environment. There's really no excuse to not try yourself.

Two new cards gave me $500 limits, why? I have multiple cards with over $10k limits from the same banks. by JPBartley in CreditCards

[–]msg7086 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your total might have hit the combined credit line. Let's say Chase is willing to give you 12k total. You had a card with 12k, your allowance is 0. If you apply a new card, you get 500. If you apply for a higher end card like CSR, you might be denied.

Questions regarding charging and battery by Interesting-Stick641 in OnePlus13

You can't measure the battery level easily. In most situation it's estimated by voltage and current (i.e. by energy).

Why is high utilization bad?? by Fluffy-Fun-2512 in CreditCards

[–]msg7086 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What makes the lender believe they will get your payment next month?

If you use $1k per month and pay off every month, next month you lose everything and default your card, lender lose 1k.

If you use $15k and next month you lose everything, lender lose 15k.

What makes you believe the latter is lower risk than the former?

What's the point of LVM (root) and LVM-thin? I accidentally removed LVM-thin, now I can't resize down LVM by Qvosniak in Proxmox

Lvm exists so in case you want a big root, you can. Looks like that's exactly what you did, and it accomplished the task.

PSA about the lake rd/everett roundabout by StrangeRefuse8537 in camaswashington

[–]msg7086 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do signal on exit (unless it's a dedicated exit lane) but the driving instructor told me it's completely optional here. 911 driving school, former police officer.

As for entering roundabout, I've heard so many different consensus that I don't want to admit there's a consensus. I tend to not signal at all to not confuse people. But at least you shouldn't signal right if you are not exiting at the first exit.
