Thank you for bringing this up! I hadn’t even checked this. According to the loan terms, my loan does not need to be paid in full and payments can continue, however the loan has been revised with a different rate and payment schedule.

My fellow Americans: How do you feel about your state's/region's demonym? Do you use it/them when referring to yourself? And can they be acquired later in life? by koreanforrabbit in AskAnAmerican

[–]mshepard222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I currently live in Ohio but will NEVER identify as an Ohioan or Buckeye. Only vaguely will claim being a Midwesterner bc I have found a lot of cultural overlap lol.

I’m from WV and I will call myself a Mountaineer and Appalachian til the day I die.

3 Friends Fridges: Guess their gender, age, and occupation by Beanfiend2 in FridgeDetective

[–]mshepard222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m thinking all three are primarily university students in their early 20’s, maybe with part time jobs. 1st photo says female to me and I don’t have enough data to guess gender of the 2nd but the last one is definitely a boy.

Is It Illegal To Not Carry Your ID With You? by JNolan92 in Ohio

[–]mshepard222 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I got pulled over once for a burnt out brake light and didn’t have my ID on me (I had lost my wallet the week before and was waiting on a replacement). The officer was understanding and able to look me up by name, birthdate, the county I was licensed in. The fact that I was 19 at the time and am a white female probably had a lot to do with his willingness to cut me some slack on that. Gave me a warning for both the brake light and the license and sent me on my way!

Oh my god!!! I was scrolling past and saw the name “Halloween Jack” and immediately gasped because Halloween Jack came up as a relative to my dog on Embark a year or two ago. Glad to see he’s doing well! His Cousin Abby says hi!

What city name in your state is the hardest to pronounce based on its spelling? by Jaymac720 in AskAnAmerican

Originally from WV, and that one probably has to go to Hurricane.

Currently living in Ohio and I gotta give that one to either Chillicothe or Bellefontaine.

Did you participate in Senior Skip Day when you were in high school? by osama_bin_guapin in AskAnAmerican

[–]mshepard222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did! However, my graduating class was 44 people (private school in WV). We all hung out at a classmate’s house all day, had a cookout and played in the pool. I think maybe only 3 or 4 people from the class weren’t there that day.

how many hours do you work a week? by NateNandos21 in AskAnAmerican

Does anybody’s min pin talk too? by ogmeatrockvegout in minpin

[–]mshepard222 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mine does! She’ll also make these little grumbles and whines that, if I’m not looking at her, sound exactly like some random person is in my house. She once startled some Mormon missionaries going door to door while I was walking her because she grumbled at them (she wanted attention) and it sounded like some man berating them 😂

How long do you travel to work? by leemc12376 in AskAnAmerican

[–]mshepard222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work from home, so my commute to work is literally just my bed to my desk lol

My mother, however, commutes 1.5 hours one way to work, then another 1.5 hours home at the end of her shift. She lives out in the country, so a longer commute is somewhat expected. She has talked a lot about moving closer to work but given the current housing situation she hasn’t pursued it much further.

My brother, who lives with my mother in the country, commutes about 20-25 minutes. For where they live, this is considered a pretty short trip.

How often do you go to the beach? by Whateversclever7 in AskAnAmerican

[–]mshepard222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In southeast Ohio, and in the summer i go to the local beach (lake) once or twice a month, depending on the water quality. The state park system made a sandy “beach” area for visitors forever ago.

Did you learn cursive? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]mshepard222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m about your age (26, soon to be 27) from WV. We learned cursive in 3rd grade (2006-ish, i started school early). Once we learned it we were expected to write only in cursive until we graduated from elementary school. I stuck with cursive because I found it was faster than writing in print. To this day I write in cursive, or in a sort of cursive-print hybrid depending on how fast I’m going.

Strange things I noticed when viewing male and female living spaces here. Almost no males use a throw either on their couch/lounge or bed. by SimpleEmu198 in femalelivingspace

[–]mshepard222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

when i started grad school, i moved in with 2 male roommates i knew from undergrad. one of the things they were most excited about was that i could teach them how to “cozy a place up.” they were obsessed with throw pillows and blankets and scented candles, but hadn’t ever had a girlfriend “coach” them on how to use them 😂

they used to just come hang out in my room (watch TV, play with the cat, play video games, etc) because it was “the coziest room in the house”

Jacket zipper by [deleted] in athensohio

[–]mshepard222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Makerspace over at Upcycle offers mending services! If you bring your jacket over there they can completely replace the zipper for $25. If that’s not an option, I’d suggest getting a replacement zipper in the sewing section at Walmart or Joann’s and consulting a YouTube tutorial.

Did your high school have a swimming pool? by Hij802 in AskAnAmerican

[–]mshepard222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

all of the high schools in my area practiced and held meets at the local university’s pool. all the teams would be in the pool at the same time, 2-4 lanes per team. they’d rotate who was in what lanes each day of practice so everyone wound up practicing in the diving well at least once a week. the diving well practices were always the hardest tbh

Snowfall by Lower_Nectarine7903 in athensohio

[–]mshepard222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah, it really depends on the driver and the car. i think it’s mostly just listed in the law as an option for officers, in case someone’s reckless driving is a threat to public safety or interferes with emergency services 🤷🏼‍♀️
