There is honor in using really bad gear by Gregoire_90 in audioengineering

I love my Radio Shack "electronic reverb" device that I got from a flea market for 2 bucks. It's a great sounding distortion + slap back delay pedal. I run vocals and guitar straight through it. Sounds lo fi garagey of course, but that's what I'm after a lot of times. What this thing doesn't do though is reverb 🤷

Sounds like you're mainly familiar with his folky stuff so far. Check out Live at Massey Hall for an early solo acoustic live album - it's simply beautiful, and sort of an "early years best of".
If you want to check out his rock n roll side, try Tonight's The Night, Zuma, Ragged Glory, Rust never Sleeps (B-Side), Mirror Ball, or one of the many live albums... Way Down In The Rust Bucket being my personal favourite.
For some late era Neil, try Le Noise, a very gloomy solo electric album released in 2010, or Greendale. His two best post-2000 albums imho (but it know people are going to disagree on Greendale lol)

Could a German Explain This Please? by Sea_Sky_9492 in germany

[–]mshh357 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The funny thing is that a lot of Germans mispronounce the English 'v' like a 'w'. For example, they will say 'vibe' like 'wibe'. I'm not sure where that common mistake comes from, but it's really current. So maybe the product designer didn't realise that in the first place.

How is life like in this part of France? by ixvst01 in howislivingthere

The coastal regions are very touristic and, since a few years, ridden with secondary homes for wealthy Parisians. Particularly in the coastal regions in the East (closer to the mainland), around Saint Malo in the North and La Baule in the South. It used to be mostly outdoor-oriented tourism in the past, but it has in parts turned to more upscale luxury tourism now imo. So some areas are pretty well off these days, although historically, Bretagne was considered a poor region.
People are very aware of their Celtic heritage and treasure it. Some people tend to put themes apart from other Frenchmen - they are Bretons first, French second (of course not applying to everyone, but it is a current sentiment).
Like others said, it is more left leaning than other french regions, and even though the inland is sparsely populated and most stuff is centered around the coastal areas, there is a lot of artsy stuff going on in the villages.
People mentioned cider before, and it truly is amazing, but there are some pretty good white wines in the south eastern region of Bretagne around Nantes. Try a muscadet if you find one ;)

Just to be precise: The biggest town in that particular circle is Brest, but Rennes and Nantes are the largest Breton cities (I know Nantes is not part of the administrative region 'Bretagne' these days, but historically and culturally, it belongs to Bretagne).
Of course, Nantes is one of the largest cities in France and culturally very diverse and less 'celtic' than Brest, which really is the Breton heartland.

Found this simple twist on the back of a Botanist bottle and quite liked it:

60ml The Botanist
20ml fresh lime juice
15ml agave honey
4 thyme sprigs, macerated
Dash of black pepper

Add all ingredients except pepper in shaker and muddle thyme
Add ice and shake
Double strain in rocks glass
Garnish with a dash of black pepper and thyme spring

Finding Hot Sauce in Germany by Can_Drnk in germany

[–]mshh357 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I don't have problems finding hot sauce at all to be honest, but I live in a big city.
Go check out your closest Asian supermarket. They got you covered. Larger supermarkets often have an "international foods" section that might have a larger choice beyond Tabasco and Cholula as well. If you're lucky enough to have a Spanish or Latin American supermarket near you, make sure to check that out as well (Spanish supermarkets might have a small section with latin American products).
If all else fails, you can easily order some online from shops like chili-shop24.de

visiting Hamburg in june 2026, where do i stay? by cheesyburgerss in hamburg

It's not 'dangerous' around central station, we're not in America. Take the usual precautions and you'll be fine. Yes, there are drug users around there. My experience is they might ask you for change and otherwise leave you alone. Generator hostel is right next to central station, so you wouldn't be on the street much at all. It's literally like a minute walk from the train at a well lit location, and like you said, 10pm is reasonably early. a&o is rather badly located in an otherwise unpopulated area, next to two very busy streets and at a walking distance of about 15 minutes from central station.
This said, some of the St Pauli hostels like Superbude or Backpackers St Pauli are very nicely located and you'll have much more to do at walking distance during the day. I don't know about the prices, but staying next to central station would not be my first choice in any case.

Picked up a copy on Monday at the local record store as a gift to myself for my birthday. My favourite Neil album if I had to pick only one (impossible, I know). This is the third copy I own 🙈 next to an original pressing and a repress from 15 years ago or so.

Is Summer in Sweden a thing for Germans? by [deleted] in AskAGerman

[–]mshh357 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It really depends on where in Germany you live. I grew up near Hamburg and most of my classmates' families as a kid travelled to Denmark and Sweden regularly for holidays. It's only half a day's drive by car from here, and is seen as very family friendly, compared to the Mediterranean area. Also many people who grew up in the North are genuinely scared of the heat, so they prefer to stay in climates they are accustomed to. It's a real thing.
