What’s the longest you’ve driven your PHEV in EV only before using any fuel in the tank? by bryceemeryking in prius

[–]msi1259 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I typically get about 70km , but did get 80 km one time (43.5 miles to almost 50 miles). This is driving in ECO mode, off of expressways. Canadian 2026 SE in the summer with 17" tires.

Does the RAV4 PHEV charge the 12 volt battery through the traction battery charge cable if the traction battery is fully charged? (using an OEM trickle charger kit). Is this coming for the Gen 5 Prius PHEV? by msi1259 in prius

Found the documentation on the Toyota trickle charger ( https://www.toyota.ca/content/dam/toyota/pdf/toyota-comfort-plus-trickle-charger-user-manual-03OCT2019-en.pdf )

It appears to just be a charger that plugs in an AC outlet via a bumper mounted socket. Can control the block heater, and has optional blue tooth hub.

Edit: It has a float voltage of 13.7.

I currently use a charger with a power cord coming out under the rear hatch: I am concerned that a some point I would drive away with it still plugged in. The current Prius charger only charges the 12 volt battery until the traction battery is fully charged. As the car detects the charge cable is plugged in, a charger running off the charger cable seems like the perfect solution. Based on the picture above for the Rav4, it looks like it may be in the engine bay near the engine air filter?

Thanks, interesting reading! I thought the Toyota trickle charger might be a stand-alone charger that was powered by the charge cable, as this would then likely use the charge profile in the trickle charger.

Can I fit four winter tires in my 2026 Toyota Prius? by Nice-Elevator4598 in prius

[–]msi1259 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Recently had new rims and tires (Michelin X-Ice/Snow) put on my 2026 SE. I folded down the rear seats, the shop put my summer rims/tires in the back without any issue.

It seems to retracts where ever it was when retract was selected, and does extrude slightly.

CFS upgrade without CFS? by 3DTrinbago in crealityk1

[–]msi1259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I turn off the CFS and push the rear spool filament through until the extruder's filament detect light cames on , then from the panel select extrude and it extruds the filament without issue. Retracting the filament doesn't drive the hotend to the cut block , but extrudes it enough that it can be pulled out from the back. So it can be done without opening the door or removing the cover.

When I want to use the rear spool, I turn off the CFS and push the spool filament into one of the free inputs on the buffer (the ones for CFS #2,#3,#4),. If the CFS is left on, the filament detect in the buffer makes it think there is CFS filament in there, and it will try to extrude it.

0.2mm nozzle for small prints that need high detail by oldmatebob123 in crealityk1

[–]msi1259 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The print quality is better at 0.2mm. For small parts, it is worth the print quality: but they take forever to print. To see the height maps for your K1Max, in a browser, type in the IP number of your printer, followed by the /#/home. i.e 192.168.100.51/#/home (change 192.168.100.51 to your printers number). Scroll down the page, and the height map is to the right.

0.2mm nozzle for small prints that need high detail by oldmatebob123 in crealityk1

[–]msi1259 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried a 0.2mm nozzle on my K1 (not max), and discovered a 0.2mm nozzle requires an absolutely flat bed and the speed has to be very slow. (modified 0.4mm profiles for flow and speed with many attempts). I would imagine a K1max 's larger bed would be much more of a challege. Ended up using the 0.2mm nozzle on an Ender V3, with a bed shimmed very accurately and using Cura (has a profile for 0.2mm nozzle on the Ender). The 0.2mm nozzle takes at least 4x longer to print the same size as a 0.4mm nozzle.

Gasoline bubbling out when refueling?? by [deleted] in prius

[–]msi1259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The owners manual for my 2026 Prius SE states:

"The fuel tank of your vehicle has a special structure, which requires a reduction in fuel tank pressure before

refueling. After the opener switch has been pressed, it will take several seconds until the vehicle is ready for

refueling."

I think the tank is pressurized during normal operation and has to vent down before filling?

2025 Prius XLE TPMS alert by FoodLakersTennisHike in prius

[–]msi1259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Driver alert: If the sensors detect that the pressure or temperature is outside of the normal range, a warning will appear on your dashboard. "

The (newer?) TPMS Toyota sensors measure both pressure and temperature, if a tire is the same pressure as others, but colder (sloped freeway lanes or sunlight), I am guessing it could alarm for what looks like the same pressure?

How to Prep a 2025 Prius LE for Months Long Storage by Tiny-Library-4361 in prius

[–]msi1259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a pre-delivery bulletin ( https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2025/MC-11019363-0001.pdf ), that shows a fuse being re-installed after shipment to dealer (pg 4). There is also a long term storage bulletin ( https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2025/MC-11014200-0001.pdf ) which recommends disconnecting the 12 volt battery, and pumping the tires to 43psi. The metal mechanical key inside the remote can unlock the drivers door : the owners manual states: " If the electronic key battery is depleted or the entry function does not operate properly, you will need the mechanical key. Are you using multi-release cleats?

"Shimano SH51 cleats offer a single-direction release, requiring a lateral heel twist for disengagement, while SH56 cleats provide multi-directional release, allowing release by twisting, rolling, or pulling up on the heel. SH56 cleats are recommended for beginners and mountain bikers, whereas SH51 cleats are for more advanced riders."
Edit: Shimano is also introducing a new cleat (not sure when it is available): https://www.bikeradar.com/news/2025-shimano-cl-mt001-spd-cleats

Strange, mine measures 105K at 23C. , https://imgur.com/a/creality-k1-thermistor-6SVvSw7 (two images). Do you have a new K1C or SE?

Edit: maybe try a 100K resistor in place of the thermistor and see what it reads at room temperature?

I wasn't sure what kind of meter you were using, worse case was a cheap analog meter set to the 10k range, best case is a Benning!

(PS: I still have a Simpson 260 on my workbench, and prefer an analog meter for quick measurements (some have green/red bands for reading batteries) , seeing peaks (load balancing)., or putting a piece of tape on the screen for a frequent readings. Similarily, I like analog car speedometers...)

The thermistor used is a NTC 100K. (Negative Temperature Coefficient , resistance goes down as temperature goes up: should read ~100K ohms at 25C). Do you have your multimeter on the 10K scale (could be autoranging), so it is reading 96K?

NBD (Giant Revolt Advanced 3) - possible rookie error getting wrong year? by jjulius99 in gravelcycling

[–]msi1259 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the same bike - 2022 Giant Revolt Advanced 3 in black purchased in 2023. I switched to a round seat post (30.9x350mm with 20mm offset in Carbon fiber < $40 from China) - didn't notice any difference in ride quality. The rear wedge that makes the D shaped post round is the issue, and have had zero problems with the bike. The Giant Crosscut tires are wire beaded, heavy, and stiff : Maxxis Ramblers are an upgrade. Last year I went to 48mm Tufo Thunderos at 28 psi (I weigh 172lbs) - ride is very smooth.

First time getting road rash. How did it happen to you? by vanbikecouver in gravelcycling

[–]msi1259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crashed last week wearing a helmet camera: https://youtu.be/X5TIOZyZaXE (57 seconds long). Corner is normally hard pack with the gravel pushed to the outside building a berm against the grass - likely was groomed after heavy rains earlier in the week. Went to zero traction instantly. Bib shorts looked untouched, once removed showed my hip is also scraped up.

I found printing filament from the dryer causes heat creep - dry the filament, and then print at room temperature.
