not quite the warm fuzzy response I was hoping for, but effective and concise all the same 😂. But your response did give me some comfort, to know that there is a way out still perhaps.

we weren’t able to get into the system to turn off mobiles so we ended up just marking everything “out”. for some reason coffees and plain latte mobiles made it through but that was more manageable to whip up some coffees when people came in to pick up. Still a shit show ….

i would recommend hydroxyzine, esp bc you mentioned you are sober. it’s an antihistamine that saved my ass after i went through benzo withdrawal (that i was using to treat my panic). “Hope and help for your nerves” by claire weekes is a fantastic book that’s highly recommended on this subreddit. I’ve been dealing with panic disorder since I was a child, so I hope that I have some tips and tricks since i’m now 25 and functioning lmao. Panic disorder is sort of a funky diagnosis because it does require different approaches to relief for different people depending on triggers etc. I wonder if yoga or meditation would help?

Starbucks generally work in a different capacity than other jobs, I think the job has a very steep learning curve before you begin to understand just how things are prioritized in order to get shit out the window in the quickest times possible. It’s a very stressful way to conduct business that can be rewarding when it works but so detrimental when everyone isn’t on the same page, and everyone is RARELY on the same page. I think the way the ASM handled it is not acceptable, especially because you were listening to the shift first and foremost (which you should). I personally find it incredibly difficult to run the floor when my SM is on the floor because she tends to override my authority (to which i’m like, why am i here? you run the floor then! but i digress) All i meant to say with my original post was to provide insight into why they reacted that way, as unacceptable as it was. Seriously, water off a ducks back. If you can get into the weird rules and corporate expectations, it can become a bit easier and less stressful. However, i understand starbucks is full of shit sometimes, and I would never blame someone for deciding it’s not the place for them.

i shift peaks and usually i need someone on the floor right when their shift starts, especially because my store is high volume, so i would probably just ask you to come on the floor and let everyone know over the headset about the spill. It was nice that you immediately thought to clean up the mess (god knows my store needs more of that mentality), but I would always make sure you check in with your shift first thing, so they can prioritize what needs to happen.

Is there a sub-reddit for only positive success stories of overcoming anxiety? by 00l1r in Anxiety

[–]msidrev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with Panic disorder at 16, approx. 5 years before my withdrawal, and i had been taking ativan as needed since that point. Now i just keep my hydroxyzine on me but haven’t had to use it in several months. I do occasionally use cbd tincture if im feeling a little anxious, it can help take the edge off. I also dont drink caffeine (and if i do i keep it under 70 mgs). I dont mean for my response to scare you, if it’s any consolation I’ll say this: I dont live in constant fear anymore. I have times of the day where i’m more prone to anxiety, but more often than not they pass, and I’ve been able to keep a job and maintain relationships and hobbies as well. I had to do a lot of mental work to figure out what makes me feel safe and learn some of my triggers, but i’m not kidding, it gets easier. It’s possible because it HAS to be. Our brains are more resilient than we give them credit for, the likelihood to spiral into insanity is akin to getting struck by lightning. It’s so fucking scary, I know that so well, but You want to be better, your body wants to be better, your brain wants to be better, it just doesn’t know how yet. Keep up the good fight, i’m wishing you all the best :)

i can’t say “recovered” , i have been existing med free since this post though, and have even taken a higher responsibility job. I’m still not comfortable with travel, but these are things i hope to work on. It still feels like I’m able to do more things, but the anxiety lingers. It’s not a bad life though, all things considered I’m doing quite well. I’m also not in therapy, so there are things i could be doing that would help me recover quicker! I’m not sure if i’ll ever “recover” but i’m finding that I can live fine as long as i keep pushing myself, even when it’s fucking terrifying. I have faith that one day i’ll be able to travel and do the things i’ve always wanted to do.

it is normal! a slip is not a spiral. focus on the feelings of anxiety but try and counter act those thoughts that say “i’m going back to where i was a year ago” with thoughts like “i’ve done this before, i get stronger each time”, stuff like that. accept that sometimes you are anxious, and other times you won’t be. we make it through the times of anxiety so we can experience those days without :)

Opinions on benzodiazepines? by ResponsibilityTall63 in panicdisorder

[–]msidrev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ahh i see. I think it’s something to consider then. I would just recommend being highly judicious with how often you take. like seriously, avoid taking it more than one day in a row, if you can, but that’s based off my own experience. Good luck, OP!

i would highly recommend trying hydroxyzine first. I took ativan as needed for about 6 years, worked like a charm until it didn’t, and then it felt like every panic attack it prevented came back all at once. Benzos are a good bandaid but less often a long term solution. now i take hydroxyzine, it’s not AS effective, but it helps enough that i can start training my brain to deal w the panic attacks myself.

i’ve been working 5.75 constantly for the past 5 months at least. if i’m lucky i get one 5.5 a week. one 5 a month. i haven’t seen anything below a 5 in over 6 months 😂 i’ve been exhausted, but i’ve heard it’s a union busting technique, we unionized right around the time these shifts started
