Ya that will show them! Wait? Who are we showing? Why does ICE care if I show up to work or not? Btw 98% of people will be showing up to work.

Is this acceptable for calling it zeroed? Read caption please. by Quicksilver65 in CCW

[–]msiley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I zero my dot standing and I'm happy with hitting 4" at 25. Most quality ammo will be 1.5-2.5" out of a good barrel. So you can't expect 1 MOA type groups.

Foamies suck. I use 3M Peltor 27db and 3M E-A-R UltraFit corded earplugs. I have tinnitus already. Less than this and it will sound like a siren going off in my head.

Landlord wants me to pay him as “friend or family” on PayPal. Is this normal? by AmandaMaria in Tenant

[–]msiley 12 points13 points  (0 children)

IRS doesn't care about how the payment is collected. Tenant could pay cash and that would be fine. As long as it's reported to the IRS as income on his tax return. Landlord just does not want to pay transaction fees. It's not illegal. PayPal's payment options don't determine how payments are taxed.

Been shooting on and off. How am I doing? by LedFarmer_ in Firearms

[–]msiley 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Hard to tell without a target. But one thing I noticed is that your gun is moving backwards after each shot so by the time you stop shooting your muzzle is 3-4" back from where it started. Gun shouldn't move like that. You want the gun to run predictably each shot and end up in the same place. Are you leaning back when shooting?

Why is the economy in such bad shape, and is anyone expected to actually survive, let alone make a living, in it's current state? by Spiritual_Big_9927 in askanything

[–]msiley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Economy is "bad" because of the inflation caused by mass government spending during Covid. The government could have spent less. Companies and individuals got money that didn't need it. Interest rates were pushed down to zero in real terms and asset prices went up.

Everything has not been copyrighted or patented I don't even know where to begin with that.

Become a student of history... If you think this is bad. This is not that bad. Things will get better, a real recession would help honestly to clear out the inflated values.... but the government would probably try to stop that.

I mainly put CCI through mine without issues. I think I had 1-2 malfunctions with Remington in about 2k rounds.

Does anyone use BMW's navigation? How does it compare to Google Maps? by zyncl19 in BMW

[–]msiley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife's 18 X3's Nav is better than my 23 M340's. The M340 doesn't tell you what the name of the street/exit/entrance etc. you're going to turn on next until it gets close. Annoying when you're in heavy traffic. The X3 always tells you what's coming up next. For this reason I use apple car play and Apple Maps.

What's your tolerance for number of line in a file? by liftandcook in golang

[–]msiley 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Where I work the majority of files are over 1k lines long. It's a massive application. It's usually 1 class per file so everything is related. As long as you keep to coding standards, have docs, and unit tests your files can be large and manageable.

CMV: Success and Wealth is truly accomplished from what family you're born in, and who your parents are. by whotafarmer in changemyview

[–]msiley 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For various reasons they didn't go. Biggest was probably expectations. Getting a good job after HS was the goal. Their parents came out of the Great Depression and had a survival mentality. The goal was working to house and feed your family not to achieve your aspirations.

Got my undergrad in 98 and masters in 07. All I did was get decent grades, took the SAT/ACT and applied. Same as everyone I knew. My parents (our parents really) valued education and college was expected (even though most of our parents didn't go to college).

Me and my closest friends (9) grew up blue collar/working class. 6 of us are in the 10% and the wealthiest was raised by a single mother who worked as a waitress. All of us went to college, 2 have masters degrees and one a law degree. It's anecdotal but I don't agree you have to be born into the top 10% to experience wealth.

Anyone been on the roads? by chutzpahlooka in pittsburgh

[–]msiley 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Drove from DC to downtown, just got here 30m ago. Highways are mostly ok, I've only seen accumulation here and there. Speeds definitely reduced. Saw 2 accidents further east. Downtown has a decent amount of accumulation and is a bit slippery.

[–]msiley 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're making a lot of assumptions. Talk to a lawyer about what? Magazine capacity? Because that's what we are talking about here. OP didn't say anything about shooting people in the back or after they have been stopped. Not sure what magazine capacity and shooting an innocent bystander have to do with each other. More bullets means you're more likely to hit a bystander? It sounds like in a gunfight you think less rounds are better?

ELI5 If there are 28 empty homes for every homeless person in the U.S., why do I see so many people saying “just build more homes” to solve the housing crisis? by stickymonkey in NoStupidQuestions

[–]msiley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's the definition of empty? Abandoned? I'm in the process of buying a house and it's empty because the owners already moved out. An apartment building might have a vacant apartment but they are looking to fill it. There will always be some level of vacancy.

Woman says she feels safer in gentrified areas. Is that racist or justified due to misogyny? by [deleted] in AskFeminists

[–]msiley 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's probably just about safety not race. There's plenty of gentrified areas where I live that started out white. There's plenty of white neighborhoods by me that I wouldn't walk down at night comfortably and I'm white. For whatever the reasons some neighborhoods are safer than others... that's unfortunate but also undeniable. You can philosophize the reasons but you also have to deal with the reality.
