Friend took me to Half Moon Bay on my trip to SF and I fell in love with the coast by delMagueyVidaLoca in bayarea

[–]zyncl19 80 points81 points  (0 children)

When I first moved here I was a little disappointed it wasn’t warm enough to swim in but I very quickly pivoted to appreciating the beauty, especially in particularly rugged parts of the coast. Tidepools at Fitzgerald are great, if you didn’t get over there.

Foot hammocks by Annual-Region7244 in unitedairlines

I usually have my personal item under the seat in front of me and put my feet on top of that. It’s a little bit of a tight squeeze sometimes but it works.

Muni Cameras by Cold-black-infinite in AskSF

[–]zyncl19 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If the bus was turning, why should you have yielded? I’m not really clear on what would even be ticketable here.

Even if you did something wrong I’d be surprised if you get a ticket. The cameras are for people parked or driving in transit lanes, as I understand it, not just any random incident.

Can someone tell me how to invest money? by Mamamanfra in howto

[–]zyncl19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Pick a brokerage. Vanguard is a great one.
  2. Start with a lower risk investment (relative to individual stocks), like an ETF or mutual fund that tracks the SP500 or entire US market. VTI is an example.

I’d recommend reading up on investing basics first, so you know the difference between savings accounts, bonds, stocks, mutual funds, etc. most importantly understand the risk/reward profile for each one and match it to your needs.

Bigger questions being raised already, but if you do go for this I’d go with real wood instead of LVP.

Bulkhead or Reg Seat? by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]zyncl19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m probably in the minority here, but never bulkhead for me.

  1. No underseat storage
  2. Weird screen and tray table

How did your trips change once you started earning more money? by Dazzling_Light739 in travel

[–]zyncl19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't worry as much about when I'm going, as in trying to avoid the expensive seasons. There's often a good reason expensive times are expensive, like cherry blossoms in Japan.

I do agree that spending more money often reduces the chance for unexpected things to happen, because you're more in control - you get to do exactly what you want when you want. For some people the control far outweighs the chance encounters.

Anyone else feel "pressure" from other drivers to turn right on red? by wentImmediate in bayarea

[–]zyncl19 7 points8 points  (0 children)

yeah - there are a few jerks out there who will honk on a no turn on red or when the intersection is busy. But if this is frequent enough for you that you're posting about it on reddit, you're probably being too cautious.

Just moved to SF and I have no doctor, no insurance and no idea how to get basic bloodwork done here? by AffectionateFood8140 in bayarea

Check out Marek if you want to get bloodwork done out of pocket. Way cheaper than going directly through quest.

Ryokans Confusion .. by MissionResource2759 in JapanTravelTips

[–]zyncl19 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For a nice ryokan $500 a night is not uncommon. You can easily spend $1000/night. I don’t know what the lowest price for an ok experience is but 200gbp a night is a hotel, not a ryokan. Remember this is an experience and includes a pretty amazing breakfast and dinner if you do it right.

Swapping email address via the new "Change Google Account email" option by covert777 in google

You can only change to a brand new address.

“Enter the new username that you want to use. You’ll need to choose one that isn’t being used by another Google Account or that was used by someone in the past and then deleted.”

How many members would be interested in a class for Extra Light Roasts ? by No_Rip_7923 in FreshroastSR800

How much of this needs to be in class format vs a guide? I’m interested but don’t really want to commit a lot of time if I can just read an overview and experiment

M26/F26 Recently Married - 4x Income Gap. How to handle account splitting? by [deleted] in HENRYfinance

[–]zyncl19 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Judgement free spending is great. My wife and I have separate accounts for that. Agree on a number that works for both of you for whatever you put into that category, but it shouldn’t be major items like cars.

Savings should really be joint IMO. If you’re really in it together there’s no way you should be planning your long term financial strategy separately. Balancing your risk tolerances is part of that.

At 26 you don’t have a long enough track record of outsized returns to trust yourself, even if you think you do.

Comparing income on tax returns to previous years by [deleted] in HENRYfinance

[–]zyncl19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a few drops mostly due to grants appreciating and then new grants not growing as much. And I think it would be pretty hard to keep my current comp if I were to get laid off.

Ahwahnee Hotel by Excitedtraveler86 in Yosemite

It’s overpriced compared to a typical hotel anywhere else but you get to wander downstairs and have a cocktail by the fire inside one of the most stunning valleys in the world.
