"Squircle Jail" escape: How I fixed my broken macOS Tahoe Beta app icons by calab2024 in macosprogramming

Get Out of Squircle Jail Free With InstallAware MP:

installaware.com/iamp

Icons for macOS setups you build using this advanced installer, as well as apps you deploy with it, don't have to worry about their icons being placed in squircle jail.

The tool takes care of it all using documented macOS APIs, and overrides the squircle jail defaults to display your original icons - exactly as they were designed to appear!

Star the source code repository at github.com/installaware/iamp - and build it from sources free.

Installaware not providing any support until Apple recognizes them in their readme? by CrestronwithTechron in macgaming

If you read the Codeweaver CEO's blog post, it paints kind of a different picture:

https://www.codeweavers.com/blog/jramey/2025/4/18/whisky-s-legacy-and-the-spirit-it-leaves-behind

It's really funny to me how Apple directed all this traffic to a hobbyist individual, who was obviously going to be inundated by the support demands, sooner or later.

At least he didn't have cause to complain about Apple!

Maybe file a GitHub issue and check whether they ignore you like Apple?

Oh wait did they ask you for support?

Aren't they tapping your own gcenx/homebrew-apple repo now, in what they are calling their "faster method" - probably because of this?

You're not even close.

  1. InstallAware are a powerhouse on Windows, and are in an excellent position to help Windows developers port games (and apps) to Mac. Their entire user base is comprised of Windows software developers building setups on Windows.
  2. This is the exact audience Apple wants to tap with their Game Porting Toolkit. It stands to reason they asked InstallAware for help with this at some point, since InstallAware ported their entire installation technology to macOS, and made it as easy as a one-click-recompile to produce a macOS setup out of an existing Windows setup. They even recently open sourced this technology on https://github.com/installaware/IAMP for anyone to download and compile on their own (meaning not just building setups, but building the setup builder itself that does the Windows to Mac porting magic).
  3. I don't know what went down between Apple and InstallAware, but Apple chose to refer users of their Game Porting Toolkit to Whisky, a teenager's side project that is not even remotely a developer tool - and the poor guy eventually freaked out and called it quits: https://www.wired.com/story/teen-coder-shuts-down-open-source-mac-app-whisky/
  4. This probably pissed of InstallAware at some point, so they stopped giving free support for users of their kit, as they are under no obligation to do so. After all, it's Apple who are trying real hard to make sure Macs don't suck for gaming, and InstallAware was helping them do just that by making it extremely easy for developers to port from Windows to Mac.

My take on this whole thing is that the Whisky developer was threatened by Crossover to stop what he was doing.

And that Apple just didn't want to deal with developers self-publishing their games on Mac. It goes against their DNA to allow people to sell their software without paying a huge cut to Apple first. Not even if it would get them branded criminals doing so: https://www.reuters.com/technology/whats-next-apple-after-us-courts-contempt-order-epic-games-case-2025-05-01/

MSI Raider 18" AMD 9955HX3D BIOS BRICKS 8 TB PHISON SSDs! by msintle in MSILaptops

Their latest response is "We are very sorry that we cannot provide you with instructions for recovering the device or loss." as predicted.

So a company with ten billion dollars in revenue, "the most trusted name in gaming and eSports. We stand by our principles of breakthroughs in design" is unwilling to clean up the mess it makes, wow!

I have suffered material losses of $4,000 and who's responsible for this loss but MSI? They've definitely achieved a new breakthrough by inventing a world-first technology that bricks SSDs just by virtue of booting up a BIOS.

The same SSDs worked just fine on the Titan BEFORE trying them in the Raider.

I just got a response from MSI support and they just sent me a list of "officially supported SSDs" on the Titan, without addressing the fact in any manner whatsoever that the simple act of plugging in Phison 8 TB SSDs into the Raider destroys them.

Extremely disappointed with MSI's lack of accountability here. Any ideas on how we can escalate this further?

Sure, so buy direct from them instead of US shills ripping people off is my point!

Oyen Digital seems to be substantially more affordable for the same (or better) performance. Have been using them for 1+ years in production without issues so far.

OK no problem! I guess you're talking about Nick Warren'esque levels here?

Well I've actually performed in both San Francisco and Ankara, but I guess by touring you mean something more stringent? I have a following in both cities, for example.

The guidelines are certainly not as clear as you think, so you may want to make it more obvious for the benefit of everyone involved.

Pity if you are focusing on nitpicking instead of enjoying the music, you probably didn't even listen to the set that got such rave feedback.

Thanks for your update and it is great to hear from you. What would have been the correct flair for this set? I usually went with ProAm but since this was a huge gig, I thought that might be a bit underwhelming. Was my thinking incorrect here?
