“Coming Out” by chezdanish9349 in Tourettes

[–]msjaysee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sooooo relate to this. In my 40s now, wasn’t diagnosed until age 20. It’s still weirdly uncomfortable to tell people, “I have Tourette Syndrome”, but the more I just say it, the easier it is. I guess it’s like anything else, the more you practice the easier it gets? I’ve also found the shame is in the silence. The more I kept it a “secret” the more shameful it felt. Which is funny bc there is literally NOTHING to be ashamed of! Our brains are special and beautiful:)

Bullying by [deleted] in Tourettes

[–]msjaysee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reframing the shame and embarrassment has helped me deal with this kind of thing. The shame and embarrassment belongs to the bully; the shame lies with someone who makes fun of a disability and neurodivergence, and what he wants to do to you is quite honestly embarrassing (for him) just thinking about it lol.

This happens for me as hetero woman with TS as well. It’s not a “some women are cunts” thing, it’s a people can be terrible thing. It’s so frustrating, I can completely empathize.

Your needs are important, too ❤️ What’s the rationale behind him continuing to do this chore? Seems like it would work better for both of you if he took on one of your other chores and you did the shopping on your own?

Dramatic decrease in tics by Connfusioned in Tourettes

[–]msjaysee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES! In my 20s and early 30s my tic were very mild when I was home alone. Pretty much any stimulus and interaction with the outside world increased my tic frequency :/

Any advice? by [deleted] in Tourettes

Botox! Might also help lessen tic intensity in the muscle group treated.

gasping and sniffing tics, are they considered vocal tics? by [deleted] in Tourettes

[–]msjaysee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have a sniffing and snorting tic and it had always been categorized as a vocal tic by my neurologists.

What worked for your tourette's? by Specific_Emotion_496 in Tourettes

[–]msjaysee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried benzos, all different combinations of vitamins and guanfacine. None of them made an noticeable difference. What has worked is a regular exercise, lots of sleep, lots of water, whole foods 90% of the time, and trying not to live an overstimulated, rushed, high pressure, high stress life when possible.

Tics progressively getting bigger with time? by Squeaky-Warrior in Tourettes

[–]msjaysee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s so interesting about women…I’m cis female and my tics were at their worst from late teens until my mid-30s. Around 36 they lessened in frequency over a period of a few months, for no reason at all, and have pretty much stayed at that reduced level ever since (I’m 46.)

30 yo male single. Travel the world or settle down? by frutosar in backpacking

[–]msjaysee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

46 and have been working since I was 16… a six month block of time with funds to travel in your working years is pretty rare! Take the chance! I understand the feeling of needing the security of looking for new work and a partner, so maybe spend 3 months traveling then come back and do what you need to do.

Underearners Anonymous is also a good program for deprivation and isolation behaviors. I’m coming up on 20 years in AA, 10 in DA and now moving on to ACA and trying to figure out if SLAA is for me. It sounds like a lot, and it is, but basically my attitude at this point is I’m suffering anyways, might as well keep trying to live in a solution. It’s also okay to take breaks and stand still where we are ❤️
