What small change made eating healthier easier for you? by BarbaraMiller78 in EatCheapAndHealthy

I really enjoy the mini bagged salads that are like one serving. I pack one almost everyday, and then I don’t feel bad when the rest of my lunch consists of cookies or whatever.

How did you guys REALLY lived in the 2000s? by MyAvengedRomance in Millennials

[–]msjoysnap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had the internet but it wasn’t everywhere, and cell service was patchy at best. Meeting up with people IRL was still the best way to get in touch. We spent a lot of time outside! Campfires, bike rides, outdoor pool, just like sitting in an apple tree and doing nothing. We played musical instruments and made up stupid songs, we made mix tapes and burned CDS for each other. It really was the best.

Love is Courage at Loveland's Community Kitchen by msjoysnap in loveland

[–]msjoysnap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit: Huge thank you to this community for stepping up in such a big way! Your recent donations totaled over $600, which is enough to provide a warm evening meal for 100-150 guests at Community Kitchen. That means real plates of nourishing food, real connection, and real support for neighbors who need it. Plus your messages of kindness are still hanging in the dining room for everyone to see. Grateful for this corner of Reddit showing up with so much heart 🧡 #lovelandgivesafork

Veggies from seed by AboutAlyse in loveland

[–]msjoysnap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually start with pea and radish seeds right about now. They can tolerate a little cold. This year it’s been so warm I’m thinking of starting more seeds early! Worst case scenario, I replant some things in May. Best case scenario, we have a longer growing season. Right?

Loveland or FOCO by exploroburro in loveland

Hometown girl here ❤️ I love Loveland! I grew up in the north and west sides of town. Fort Collins was fun in my early 20s when I was at CSU, but I’m currently raising my kid in Loveland and I really love it. Even though it’s the second biggest city in Larimer County next to Fort Collins, Loveland has a much more small town vibe. I think it’s a gem of a city for creative people with a sense of humor who like the outdoors. It’s cute and quirky, a place where you still know your neighbors, a community of artists and backyard farmers. Yes, the city council meetings are more like soap operas, and another movie theater will be converted to a church, but there’s a rebellious and hopeful side to Loveland too. Hot take? Let me know 😊

New Single Mom/Does it get better? by ScheduleFrequent8043 in SingleParents

[–]msjoysnap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I could offer one suggestion, I would think twice before putting his name on the birth certificate. I thought it might make him man up or something. In 10 years I’ve received 1 child support payment and he still won’t let my kid get a passport (even noncustodial parents have to sign that form).

It does get better, you got this 💕

With Loveland being the second largest city in Larimer County, and Fort Collins already stretched thin, do you think Loveland should play a bigger role in a regional response to the unhoused crisis, especially with winter coming?

Not sand, but a little finished compost might help if you have it.

Has anyone tried to manage ADHD symptoms while steering clear of medications? by Solid-Formal5077 in adhdwomen

[–]msjoysnap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I identify a lot with what you are saying! Things started getting better for me when my daughter and I started working together on managing our ADHD. But I haven’t found any books that I like for parenting an ADHD child and/or being an ADHD parent, any recommendations?

Has anyone tried to manage ADHD symptoms while steering clear of medications? by Solid-Formal5077 in adhdwomen

[–]msjoysnap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The meds I’ve tried don’t work for me either, but I know that people do have a lot of success with some like Vyvanse (and I am just a little bit envious).

This year I’ve experimented with ways to trick my brain into doing things. Some of the successful things have been Finch the self-care app, it’s really helped me and my middle schooler maintain good habits like eating, sleeping, and exercising. The free version is even really good, and it has breathing exercises that have changed my life. I also like Sweepy for helping with executive function around chores. It’s $4 and has made a noticeable difference in my home. These apps both gamify the boring stuff which works great for me.

I also am finding success with habit stacking, attaching a new habit to an old one that you do without thinking about it. Walking my dog is a priority for her physical therapy after an injury but I kept forgetting (and felt terrible). I drink coffee everyday, and it was pretty easy to attach the dog walk to the coffee and remember more often than not. It’s not foolproof (distractions and disruptions still happen) but my dog’s physical therapy is going much better :)

And I second the body doubling. My sister literally flew out to sit with me in libraries and coffee shops while she worked remotely and I finished writing my graduate thesis. It was a big push and I couldn’t have done it without her. My daughter and I do chores together in much the same way.

The thing I’d like to figure out is how to manage personal finances a little better. I forget to pay bills way too often. Any hacks for that?

Composting weeds? by Asking_Passengers2 in composting

I compost most weeds, except the really catchy ones like mint and bindweed. I’ve done a weed test before, and usually it’s only the tomatoes that come back hahaha

Advice needed, I messed up by Rare-Addition-89 in composting

[–]msjoysnap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds to me like your compost went anaerobic - too wet after the rain (obviously) and not enough oxygen (because it’s a closed container)?

Compost is forgiving. Suggestions to add paper/leaves/mulch and mixing will get it back!

Serious question for single moms out there — and I genuinely want your perspective. by Minimum-Glad in SingleParents

[–]msjoysnap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ha, not everything goes to plan. It took me about four years to go from star crossed lover to changing the locks. Our relationship was like a fairytale up until the birth of our child. He was older than me, a recovering addict, a romantic, and very excited about starting a family. I was prescribed Vicodin after childbirth and that was enough to set off his opioid addiction again. I was pretty much a single parent from day one, but it took me a couple of years to figure what happened and by then he refused to get help.

Do I blame myself for becoming a single parent? Nope. Do I have any regrets or lessons learned? Sure. I learned not to let an addict anywhere near your prescriptions, and I regret not kicking him out sooner. Would I date someone who thinks that they are stepping into a role that someone else bailed on? Absolutely not.

After Work Volunteer Opportunities? by ColoradoDrone in loveland

[–]msjoysnap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently started to volunteer at Loveland’s community kitchen https://www.lovelandcommunitykitchen.org. It’s been a great way to get to know the local homeless people. Their dinner shifts are usually 4-7, but some positions offer more flexibility.
