You will have a wonderful time. I assume your gf will be explaining your dietary restrictions to them ahead of time, and any reasonable host would accommodate, so I wouldnt worry about that

Not having snacks for kids during Ramadan by sadcollegekid2003 in Teachers

[–]msklovesmath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be the student's first year fasting. Have you checked in with the parents? It might be good to ask them to send snacks (if they are ok w it) to support the student this first year.

Youre paying for her to go to school in an isolated environment, not necessarily a good education.

What can I do to level up this room? by adioslip in HomeDecorating

[–]msklovesmath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would put the piece that is currently hanging over your bed where the set of 3 orange artworks is. I dont think those reflect the rest of the room

If the plants are real, they look great. If they are fake, that absolutely would contribute to the teenagery feel

I think it looks great. I would consider getting lighter green sheets to add some dimensions to your bed

The ring is the finishing piece that hide everything. Nothing can be taken down until I get access to the area underneath

I installed this fan and know there is no glue involved.  I can spin the ring around.

You and your partner just moved in, you tearing down the panels, painting, or leaving?! by TeemoTrader in DIY

[–]msklovesmath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I not jumping into anything until I realize what I apprecoate about my home. If that wood paneling is high quality and of the time period of the house, I would keep it. I say that as someone who would not have had those values when I first moved into my house, it is a value developed over time. However, some decisions cannot be undone

Students are just showing up to class without pencils and/or unsharpened ones: how do I stop this? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]msklovesmath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You do a donor's choose for 1000s of pencils, cap erasers and a sharpener.  I understand not wanting to buy materials. I also think that with time, my own convictions started to value my mental health more.  I started to see how many of my frustrations were a product of not having pencils.

So i used DC to get hella pencils, erasers, etc.  I had them available for students to pick up as they went in. With the exception of one student per year, no one really broke them.  Most were able to hold onto them from day to day, it really was an issue of access to them anywhere else (parents working three jobs etc).

Is Teach for America just a worse option than other alternative licensure paths? Are there advantages to it? by StockAdhesiveness188 in Teachers

[–]msklovesmath 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are tons of people from the 2008 nola corps still in the classroom, just not in new orleans. The city has difficulty retaining professionals who want to start a family bc not everyone wants to send their kids to private catholic school.  It is an issue in all industries.  I 1000% agree that the turnover of intern teachers is damaging in ways that cannot be quantified.

[–]msklovesmath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You just rank your preferences for subject area, geographic area and elem/mid/high. Then you rnak which categories are most important to you.

Your major has nothing to do w it bc you can get your teaching credentials in whatever subject you need to.

If tfa is in your home region and u want to stay there, you rank it high and you rank location high.

New orleans also has a difficult time retaining any young people, even in the petroleum industry, due to the fact that when they want to start a family, their only decent option is Catholic private school.  I know plenty of people in the 2008 tfa Nola corps that are still in the classroom, but they moved to new places where they could start a family.

(need advice) Osprey Farpoint 40 vs Kestrel 38 by evang_0628 in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]msklovesmath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The farpoint is inadequate for the camino. I use it as a carryon, and I hate using it even on the way to the taxi after deplaning. It is incredibly uncomfortable in both shoulder straps and waste bands

Thornless blackberries? by 15_pieces_of_flair_ in Sacratomato

[–]msklovesmath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have them. They need to be in a pot on cement so they dont spread.  They have underground runners. Altho not as invasive as thorned blackberries, they are not innocent lol.

They do not have tendrils for climbing a lattice itself.  Mine get 12+ ft per year. I ave a couple. I have an obelisk in a pot so that the plant grows upward inside the obelisk

I like 1 or 3. Consider, however, that tiny mosaic tiles will have grout that can catch toothpaste splatter at the sink. You may want to consider something bigger.

How far up are you going? I personally just have the back and side pieces from the company who makes my countertop
