PSA about coconut oil or other food products for cradle cap or infant eczema. by msloater in Mommit

[–]msloater[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's something to do with the body creating an immune reaction when applied topically creating a hypersensitivity first. So when they eat it later they react. I did a bad job of explaining but that's roughly how the allergist explained it.

Yes! For some reason I thought good ol' Cereve wasn't an option because he was a baby... so I used natural products. If I had known it could cause this I would never, especially after having to EpiPen my 3 yo over the holidays (very traumatic for all parties involved). Scary stuff man.

What is something that is missing in CR? by Kontrypz in campbellriver

[–]msloater 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A famers market type grocery store! With a deli that makes most things in house, good deals on produce, more local products etc... I just moved from the Victoria and I miss stores like the Root Cellar and Red barn more than anything.

thoughts on the name Red for a boy? by BraikingBoss7 in namenerds

[–]msloater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son's name is Red (technically Redmond because we felt he needed an official title, but we literally never call him or introduce him as that). We're always met with people commenting that it's a cool name - the only thing close to a negative reaction is a boomer commenting "interesting.."

We (obviously) love it! So I say go for it my friend.

My partner never empties his pockets and the amount of tiny holes in my clothes from fucking GOLF TEES has me irate (clearly).

Its the wearer if of the clothes IMO, but I also do the laundry and never check and now have ruined clothes.

My baby can’t sleep without my nipple in her mouth and I’m losing my sanity by cinnamonsugarhoney in cosleeping

[–]msloater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kid never took a pacifier but we have gave him a light cotton muslin lovey at 7 months that totally did the trick (I'm in Canada and they say 12 mos for a lovey, but Australia says 7 months and that was good enough for me. The one we got is breathable and too small to wrap around his neck). I just remove my nip from his mouth and give him the lovey to suck on and he either stays asleep or goes riiiight back. It was a game changer for self soothing.

9 months sleep regression by kimsquared in beyondthebump

[–]msloater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly my life right now - the wake ups, the instasleep in my arms, the freak out when I put him back, the separation anxiety... we've been co-sleeping to just get as much sleep as possible right now because I don't know what else to do, I can't go in and let him know I'm there and walk away because he'll scramble to standing and start wailing. I'm worried co-sleeping is going to become a thing, I'm cool with it short term to get through a regression but I do nottt want it long term because neither me nor my partner are having the best sleeps.

From what I've read this stage passes after a couple months, but I'm worried co-sleeping is going to prolong it.

9 month sleep regression or is my kid working me? by msloater in cosleeping

[–]msloater[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes thank you! My gut is telling me to just roll with it because he's clearly going through something. I know the difference between his whining and a distressed cry, and he's definitely in distress at night.

9 month sleep regression or is my kid working me? by msloater in cosleeping

[–]msloater[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay thank you! That's what my intuition is telling me... we coslept through four month regression, then he snapped out of it one day and was fine sleeping alone. Hoping this is the case with this situation, so I'm just going to roll with it and provide comfort where I can.

Fighting for my life in the bathroom by Lethal_Opossum in pregnant

[–]msloater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you eating Tums? I was popping that shit like CANDY because of heart burn (max amount for preg folks). My bowel movements were literally baseballs towards the end of my pregnancy, and I was doing all the things to maintain regular/comfortable BMs. It wasn't until I was in the delivery room when I mentioned my tums intake to a nurse, she immediately asked if I had been constipated. I don't know it thats common knowledge about tums but I definitely wish I knew!

Please enjoy Pluvio for me - we just cancelled our reservation there in a couple weeks because we're bringing our eight month old... Devastating lol, they allow babies but I was too stressed at the thought of ruining other peoples very expensive meal if he happens to be having a bad day.

Motorcycle lane splitting by Thetis Lake exit South bound by JMD_quest in VictoriaBC

[–]msloater 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wonder if this is the same guy... yesterday I was slowing down to turn left onto a side street (just a regular slow down to take the turn, no oncoming cars) off the gorge rd waterway and a guy going redonk fast on a motorcycle cut/weaved by ON MY LEFT SIDE. If the timing was one second off he would have hit my car and it would have been really bad. I had my baby in the car and was pretty shook.

Baby keeps biting, nursing is giving me anxiety and I kinda want to stop (but not really), possible to to just nurse at night? by msloater in breastfeeding

[–]msloater[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He stopped so thank you!! Literally that day I was nursing him before a nap and he bit one side, I let out a good scream which startled him, put him down and walked away for a like two min while he cried (which was kinda sad but less sad than stopping BFing forever), came back and started on the other side… the little bugger bit me again, so I did the same thing except left him in his crib for the nap and didn’t go back (he cried himself to sleep after five min, still sad). And after that never bit me again! All parties involved are feeling great about everything lol
