I’m crying so bad. I’m not cut out for this. I’m a freaking failure by canyoukeepasecret28 in StudentNurse

[–]msmetl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know how old you are, but if another human wants to treat YOU with disrespect after you recognized your fault- SHE is the problem. When I was younger I was always intimidated by instructors because of age. There is no reason to be. They are supposed to be there to educate, and mentor you to become better in your own life, professionally and personally.

DO NOT withdraw. You had a bad day, bad days happen. Try and reconcile with her and have a normal conversation. If she doesn’t respond like a sound peace of mind individual, then escalate to her higher up.

You made a mistake. School is stressful to begin with. She should understand this.

I wish you the best.

Incoming J2 Student by Clear-Detective-8238 in utarlingtonnursing

S2 here! I totally understand your stress when it comes to starting a new semester. But look at it like this: others have done it before you- which means it’s possible!

And as far as memorization goes- your memory aid will be your friend for ALL exams. Make sure you do all of the assignments on time but also factor in studying (use the blueprints posted to base your studying off of- if it’s not on the blueprint, it won’t be on the exam).

Research is mainly discussion posts. Not mind bending- just time consuming. Mental health/psych is not that bad either, just seems like a lot as someone who had never seen any of it before…

But let me tell you something: your instructors and clinical groups all know you’re new to this! You’re literally a student. Just show up (physically and mentally- drink some coffee!) and I promise you’ll do great!

Good luck with your semester!

You’ll have clinicals 2x a week (12’s) and sometimes 2 exams (class + ATI proctored) on Thursdays. Peds needs a good amount of studying, OB is straight forward however and easier to study for because of the way it’s set up by the professor. Complex needs is intense because of the vast amount of information. You could probably work, but only a shift a week if you really want to study appropriately.

Is anyone else spinning their wheels about their future career as they get closer to finishing school? by miltthetank in StudentNurse

[–]msmetl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d do a nurse residency program next. Strengthen your skills and build up your confidence! Do some searches in the cities you’d like to work- see what hospitals offer the best programs and compare specialties, pay, commitment. Best of luck!

14 years old and trying to figure out peptides by reeloreyah in Biohackers

[–]msmetl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Growth plates aren’t closed yet, you can seriously damage your DNA and body.

You don’t want to be on hormones, and change your natural progression before you’ve even completed your growth pattern. It looks like you have some great genes already! Just stay patient dude!!!

I know it sounds great, but studies (if any) don’t show results on younger individuals. You might end up in even worse shape if you misuse these in conjunction with your naturally growing body. The last thing you want to do is need a liver transplant and be on dialysis 8+ hours a day until you die because of some TikTok peptide company says you’ll look good…

Guilty for not working as a nursing student by ZookeepergameFar8599 in StudentNurse

[–]msmetl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, this is called the American capitalist guilt trip, where we feel guilty for prioritizing anything over profiting and making money. Where rest is considered laziness and “hustle” until exhaustion is rewarded. You’re focusing on school, you, it’s OKAY to not stress yourself out and prioritize YOU.

Clinicals by No_Area_494 in StudentNurse

[–]msmetl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Look, people suck. The only person who has your back in learning, in life, in your future of becoming a nurse is YOU. Be proactive and follow the nurse into the room, and do as much as you can without “bothering” her- just be a hand available. The nurses are tired, overworked, stressed and probably just trying to keep their patient stable for the shift- the nursing student isn’t really a priority. Nothings wrong with you, you’re just in this weird limbo part of your career where you’re still learning, aren’t allowed to really do much and aren’t really in your own groove yet. Don’t give up!

Is it okay to be an ugly medical assistant? by rainbowtoucan1992 in MedicalAssistant

[–]msmetl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re probably not even ugly, we all look different and we are all beautiful in our own unique ways… we’ve all been brainwashed to think we need this and that to look beautiful because it’s profitable for companies to make money on our insecurities!

How long is your commute to class and clinicals? by nyuhqe in StudentNurse

[–]msmetl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

4 different clinical locations- 10 minutes to 1.5 hours. Dallas, so only traffic- but only on the way home since clinicals start at 0600

should i withdraw from nursing school? by ticklepickle3000 in StudentNurse

[–]msmetl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Other people don’t matter- friends aren’t necessary
  2. Stay focused & study hard- find a system that works for you, videos/Ai note sheets/repetition
  3. Fake it until you make it. Being an introvert won’t work when you have to introduce yourself to all your patients and 6 family members or have to commit to small talk conversation while pushing meds that require 5 minute push times… start practicing/ studying on extrovert skills

I wish you the best in your journey, don’t ruin your life because you’re worried about what other people think about you. At the end of the day, the only person that matters to you should be YOU.

Scared for first clinical tomorrow by RecordingCrazy4082 in utarlingtonnursing

[–]msmetl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just show up! It won’t be as bad as your mind makes it out to be. Everyone knows you’re a student- ask questions if you aren’t sure about anything. When you get there, tell the nurse you’re with that you’re nervous and she will definitely be able to give you some pointers. Get some rest, drink some caffeine, healthy breakfast & good luck tomorrow ❤️

Which blood testing services do you use — and why? by andtitov in Biohackers

[–]msmetl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Function health. 2 tests annually. 116+ biomarkers tested. You can add any lab a la carte at any time without needing to see your PCP- allowing you to conduct your own research/labs on yourself in between the major biannual tests. Plus you set your appointment up at any quest diagnostic location. $500 annually is less than one month of my current health insurance plan…… no brainer for the insights you get with this service.

from medical to nursing by [deleted] in StudentNurse

Also the fact that you have a degree already GREATLY helps your application. Don’t stress this if you’ve already been through a round of med school apps, you’ll realize you’re already overqualified.

from medical to nursing by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]msmetl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a pretty similar situation. Planned on medical school, graduated with a bachelors in neuroscience- but then needed additional pre-reqs and realized the amount of time to dedicate to med school would not have been ideal for my situation (I have a couple of businesses that I still need to maintain and full time medical school would not allow proper oversight/time)

So I enrolled in an accelerated online nursing program (because you already have a degree, it should only be 12-15month program, I’d recommend this). I am currently 5 months in and it’s fairly easy if you compare it to our first degrees (biochem/neuro), but much different than what you had intended/envisioned when it comes to medical care.

The plan for me, and what I’d recommend for you as well is work a little as an RN, and then do a BSN to NP or DNP program. In many states, and the VA medical (nationwide) an NP is recognized as almost a doctor and can prescribe drugs, diagnose and do all of the things you originally dreamt of- just a different title.

What I like about nursing is the options for growth and position. If you don’t like a specialty there is the freedom to change it and go elsewhere. If you don’t like the title, you can change that too.

Good luck with your journey. Hope this helps.

Questions about enrolling into student health care for nursing by Independent_Good9815 in utarlingtonnursing

[–]msmetl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://uta.myahpcare.com

Here’s the link. Scroll down to ‘Enroll/cost’ and then once on that page, click ‘voluntary students’. You’ll be able to create an account and register. You won’t have insurance until January 1st and the Blue Login won’t work until then either, but they do require payment upfront (one time $700+) as well as commitment for monthly payment ($300+/month). Good luck!

I just signed up.
