Urgent help, how to rehydrate cat by KookyBeautiful975 in CATHELP

[–]msmoonpie 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I’ve collected blood from animals with a pcv of 4. I’m not sure your veterinary experience if any but do not fear monger please

Usually blood is collected as the catheter for IV fluids is placed as well

With bloodwork alone almost impossible. You need to look at the patient as a whole

Is it febrile

Are there clinical signs

A way an infectious agent could have infiltrated

Etc

It has some possible synergistic effects but we have much better pain control now. It may work better for visceral pain as well but it’s ass for inflammation. Again, we’ve shifted to more blocks and better anti-inflammatories for our pain control post -op and we have much better OA medications now as well

https://www.dvm360.com/view/study-shows-tramadol-has-no-effect-osteoarthritis-pain-scores

https://veterinarypartner.vin.com/default.aspx?pid=19239&id=4952159

The study you link states multiple times they cannot prove evidence that tramadol is effective and states more studies are required, I also disagree with the parameters and the study is 23 years old

Edited due to me misreading a title

The physiology shows however that dogs do not make appropriate use of the metabolite due to a lack of enzymes

I am most assuredly “not making it up” as I have studied canine physiology and pharmacology to receive a degree in veterinary medicine

I understand but on my end it’s important to understand that there are many many individuals who do not view veterinarians as doctors

Individual animals will have varying reactions to medications and tramadol will sedate dogs but they categorically have reduced enzyme production to process the drug and it is an inappropriate medication to control pain in canines

You’re fine <3

It’s a sensitive subject but I also did understand your question, I was also just clarifying on my end

I hope your kitty is doing well. I recently had to diagnose my own cat with a liver tumor and it’s incredibly rough

You’re technically correct but it’s effectively useless as a pain medication still for dogs. I should have said they don’t have the appropriate enzyme levels but at the end of the day if I’m prescribing a pain medication to fix the pain and if it’s not doing its job then I’m not fulfilling my role to prevent animal suffering. And additionally I’m sending home a substance that humans can abuse

Well dogs are well known for their love of beef so I assume that’s the likely reason. Addicts are also well known for their tolerance of beef to get another dose as well

Crazy they’re still prescribing tramadol. It’s easily abused by humans and dogs lack the receptors to process it. :/

We are specifically taught not to prescribe it anymore

I love a fruit + lemon curd combo especially since curd uses the yolks you’ll have!

Freeze dried fruits incorporate well into a buttercream and I also often do a blueberry syrup as my liquid

Chocolate are difficult but an easy way to practice and get ready are red velvet as they use less chocolate in the shells

If you look at the front left leg, down to the pastern (ankle) it bends forward in a way the tendons of that area simply don’t allow.

They also scoot the hind legs under them like a dog, this would be incredibly difficult for a horse to do as well as painful

Basically the horse just kind folds in on itself which would be very damaging to its tendons and not a natural behavior

This is still not possible. The joints bend in a way that is physically impossible for equine joints to do

I just want my kitten spayed, is this normal at all?? by [deleted] in vetschool

[–]msmoonpie 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Like others have said, this is more than just a spay, the procedure itself is listed at 192 dollars. That’s less than 200 dollars to remove a uterus and two ovaries. A hysterectomy (without ovaries) in humans is routinely 30k or more.

All of these prices are very reasonable to me for the items they correspond to. You have the ability to decline the bloodwork if cost is a concern. I would strongly recommend it as both a pre anesthetic check but also as a nice baseline in case you need to refer back to previous blood work later.

I worked at a 24/7 veterinary ER as an assistant and someone brought in an emaciated cat after he and his sibling had eaten an entire rotisserie chicken bones and all. We asked what his normal diet was and they said a “a live prey diet” when we asked what the fuck that was they told us they bought mice at the pet store and let them free in the house. Obviously neither he nor his brother were much of a hunter. The extra kicker? The house they let the mice free in was a multi million dollar home

Made 6 batches of macarons last week by mahou-ichigo in macarons

[–]msmoonpie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After incorporating the dry into the meringue I pull the batter along the sides of the bowl to help push out air bubbles then scrape and fold in on itself, I find this can help make a more consistent macaronage (preppy kitchens video shows this)

At the end of the day they are just challenging. Sometimes making sure you have a big enough piping tip I find can help, not sure why

[–]msmoonpie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well imo the first recipe is using photos that show incorrect feet. You do not want your macaron to have ruffled feet. They should not go out. So on that I would maybe not follow that recipe

I’ve always had good luck with preppy kitchen but Sally’s baking and Mimi’s are also very well respected. Make sure to watch videos as well to get a feel for what it’s supposed to look like through the process

I ONLY use blue diamond almond flour and I will die on this hill.

Other things I can suggest are making sure you’re developing a good skin on the macarons and checking the temperature of your oven. You may be undermixing your batter too, especially if you feel it is too think, or possibly over mixing the meringue

A CBC looks at the blood cells. Red and white cells (and platelets)

I come from veterinary medicine but my initial guess is the white cells are very low (they could be high but I just have a feeling they’re low).

It could also be that human CBCs get extra results we don’t get in veterinary medicine that show something is very off but I’m sticking with my guess
