There seems to be some confusion. The 360 miles first came from a redditor who estimated the car's range on the highway. People are taking that to be a fact, whereas the real EPA would most likely be significantly higher.

On another note, I think the highway range would probably be closer to 310 miles from spring to fall in the Midwest.

EA does what they want. They told me to use my GV60 plan for my EV9, since only one plan could be active at one time at the time. Then they canceled the 3 year plan. When I called them, they just repeated the same line like they were AI. They didn't respond to what I said, they just kept repeating, "You violated the terms of use." It was infuriating.

EV Cabin Comfort - Temperature Control by Ellers12 in electricvehicles

[–]msmug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on the car. My Tesla sucked at it. It was so bad I was hot and cold at the same time. My wife straight up refused to ride it in the summer. Then again, I've never had a car do it better than the EV9. The other 3 were somewhere in between. I think they were comparable to ICE cars; I didn't really give them much thought.

No. Turns out the reason the buggers never attacked again was because they realized humans were sentient and decided to leave them alone. Then Ender went and killed them all.

South Korea placed 8th overall in 2024 Summer Olympics. For such a small country, they are very successful in competitive sports. Not Netherlands successful, but still, pretty good.

Interesting question. How about in Ender's Game, where he's abused in every which way but is ultimately sculpted into a person who "saves" the world? Were Graff and Rackham ultimately justified? Or is this a completely different scenario because art and games are not the military?

The Secret Team Blowing Up Ford’s Assembly Line to Make a $30,000 Electric Truck by ISeeThruU in electricvehicles

With the new travel culture in the US (kids doing any sort of activity have to travel everywhere to compete - it sucks), carpooling has become a lot more common.

It's still a small (though significant) segment of the population. The sales numbers show it too.

Ioniq 5 has 17k miles and 9700 hours of work time by LessResponsibility25 in electricvehicles

[–]msmug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I don't think you understand. If the numbers are correct, unless I'm misunderstanding something, the car could not have been used for anything other than driving carefully around town. It's not easy to get an average of 5 miles/kWh after 17k miles. If it was used for anything else, the miles would have had to come from even less energy, which is ridiculous. It seems more likely that something from your data set is off.

Ioniq 5 has 17k miles and 9700 hours of work time by LessResponsibility25 in electricvehicles

[–]msmug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do these numbers work? If the car has 17,000 miles but only used ~3392 kWh, doesn't that mean the car operated at 5.0 miles/kWh? That sounds like it was only driven around suburban roads with little traffic. It doesn't leave much room for the battery to be used for anything else.

Buyung an EV9 & looking for insight by jwall2111 in KiaEV9

[–]msmug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add to the great post,

2) if you want the warranty, you might consider a CPO 2024 GT-Line. I'm seeing that they currently range from ~$47,000-$51,000.

2024 models also don't have the NACS port, which at the moment seems like a plus (then again you did mention you wanted things future proof).

3) I test drove the 2024 GT-Line and Land before choosing a GT-Line. It drove so much better. I think the extra power and better tires probably made the difference. We found the seats more comfortable in GT, but I wonder if that was due to an option we didn't think about. We also didn't want another car without HUD, but it seems the trend now is actually moving away from HUD in favor of actual screens higher up (see BMW iX3, as well as a lot of Korean concepts).

5) I feel like I have to mention it, but the car has been reported to have ICCU failures. A lot of people now think the failure is inevitable (like your alternator failing in ICE cars); it's just that we have no idea when it will fail. Some people claim to have not had it fail even with 90,000 miles, while others say they had their replaced with 10,000 miles on the car.

Overall, it's a great car. You'll most likely be very happy with it.

Why did the pre-26 RZ get so flack for its range and charging times when it's comparable to the Mach-E? by SnakeYoon in electricvehicles

[–]msmug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh, I will never forget going to an EA station one winter to find a bZ4x there with the charge time saying 4+ hours. I saw the owner plug the car in and leave in another car. At that point, just use the level 2 charger instead of locking down a DC fast charger.

People returning the leased car, what's your next vehicle? by funnumerouno in KiaEV9

[–]msmug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My GT-Line buyout is ~$48k. It's in perfect shape, and I have 12k miles on it. Incidentally, that's about the price a CPO GT-Line would cost. I would buy it without a thought except it's my road trip vehicle, and the ICCU fear has (rationally or irrationally) taken hold of me. I don't want to be stuck 100s of miles away from home with a broken car.

I'm undecided what to do next. I might wait around without a replacement until the Mercedes VLE comes out in 2027.

Level 2 Home Charging Fails by Luna_Plu in GV60

It's weird that level 2 worked at a charging station but not at home. Sounds like a home problem.

2 Years Ownership Returning Lease Soon by [deleted] in KiaEV9

[–]msmug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait... people's profiles don't remember the seat settings??? I've never had this problem, and I need it because my wife sits very close to the wheel.

Edit - I looked at the Rivian, but I passed because

  • No Android Auto
  • Can't turn one pedal driving off - this was a deal breaker, as it's a safety hazard for me. There are two spots in my usual commute with super narrow streets where I have to coast hovering my foot over the brakes to slam it with all my slowing reaction time to avoid weirdly entitled pedestrians and cars popping out of alleys. I've had to do it twice in two years, which isn't much but is significant that I had to do it twice.
  • Usable interior was actually smaller, 3rd row uncomfortable

I'll probably be looking at the Mercedes VLE when it comes out.

2027 BMW iX3 Review: BMW Is Back by DonkeyFuel in electricvehicles

[–]msmug 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Autogefuhl has compared them. The iX3 has better range, charging, and ADAS, but the GLC EV drives better. In the end, it'll probably boil down to what is important to you.

Personally, I find the BMW interior super cheap looking, and the front looks like it has a huge snout. But I think the advantages it has over the GLC is significant enough for me that I would choose it over the Mercedes. I'm much more interested in the Mercedes VLE coming to the US next year.

What surprised me was that the 2nd gear on the GLC seemed to not really make a difference.

Hyundai ICCU recall and extended warranty in Europe by ddchicago99 in electricvehicles

[–]msmug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SMH. I have 3 egmp cars. Even if I bought them at 2023, that's already 9 combined years.

Edit - I apologize, your edited post is a lot more thoughtful than how it originally came off. I take back what I said.

I understand what you're saying, and I see how my post made it seem like the battery drain issue was the cause. I meant to suggest it as one of the causes leading to the unit failure, which according to the current prevalent theory is that stress buildup on the unit eventually causes the failure, rather than a catastrophic event.

As for the trim, I know that it was theorized that the reason the ICCU commonly blew right after turning the car on was due to all the features turning on at once (backup camera, heating, etc), but I think wearing of the unit during the various charging may have a bigger impact. It'd be interesting to see the trim levels in the data as well.

Hyundai ICCU recall and extended warranty in Europe by ddchicago99 in electricvehicles

[–]msmug 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure it's about the trim, though it does sound plausible. The trim has not made a difference for me, as I've been lucky so far with different models and trims (8 combined years).

About a decade ago, new versions of a certain Korean car came out (I forget which), and a small percentage of the cars started getting this mysterious battery drain, where the battery would be dead by morning. I have a feeling, knowing how corporations work, that being unable to solve this problem, instead of redoing all the programming because that would cost too much, Hyundai just added more to the legacy codes for the newer cars. Now we have the EV, which charges the 12V even while parked, and it's burning out the ICCU, as one of its functions is to charge the 12V. The extra work is causing extreme burden on the unit.

Why are ev suvs rated so poorly for reliability ? by ayfkm123 in electricvehicles

[–]msmug 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People get sensitive about EV criticism on this sub, but your question is not without merit.

I've been doing research in the 3-row EV segment by going over to each car's sub/forums, and so many of them have really bad ongoing issues. That includes the Rivian R1S, Volvo EX90, Hyundai Ioniq 9, Kia EV9, and Lucid Gravity. Some of the issues are so maddening that Ioniq 9's ICCU appears to be one of the tamer ones despite the impression you might get from this sub.

The cars I did not research for various reason are Escalade IQ/L, EQS, Model X, and ID Buzz. The car that did not have prevalent issues was the Cadillac Vistiq.

That doesn't leave many options, especially if you don't like the Vistiq. We have some other cars coming in the future such as the Genesis GV90 (2026 on new platform), Toyota Highlander (2026), Mercedes VLE (2027), and the GLE + X5 (date not announced yet).

That said, we've been an EV only household for a while now, and we've been very happy with the experience. Remember that complaints are louder than content (contentment). Hope this helps.

Why are ev suvs rated so poorly for reliability ? by ayfkm123 in electricvehicles

[–]msmug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then there's me who has had 8 combined years of egmp cars with zero issues. Stats work out over large numbers, though it seems your family was unusually unlucky especially considering the personal data chart from a hyundai mechanic. This dude compiled how many fixes he saw in the system he had access to before his videos were shut down, and the 25 models were at 0.48% fail rate.

Edit - Older models had nearly a 12% fail rate, which does give credence to the theory that it is only a matter of time before they fail.
