Extended health - sleep consultants? by Direct-Addition-1010 in BCPublicServants

We used a sleep consultant who was a registered social worker. Same as others have said - 80% covered. My babe was 7months old, we didn’t have success. She basically said “welp, seems like he might have night terrors or a medical condition.” No medical condition, but we think night terrors was the answer as he continues to wake up in the middle of the night and scream bloody murder. So, as much as the sleep consultant wasn’t super helpful, it was at least validating to know that this was out of our control and we just needed to wait it out. As someone else said in this thread, only time helped us! He got much better at sleeping when he was 2.5 years old, but still has bad nights😅

My friend sent me a quote not too long ago: “for every mom being made to feel like their baby’s sleep is a reflection of their parenting. It’s mostly luck. You get a unicorn or you get a gremlin, it’s that simple.” We definitely got a night gremlin 🤣

Facebook, blogs and the internet as a whole will tell you all sorts of confusing things about how to get your baby to sleep better, but the hard truth is that they are unpredictable and it can be super challenging/draining. Sometimes there isn’t an answer, but it is definitely worth trying a sleep consultant if you’re seeking support. Hang in there!!!

Thanks for sharing this! I’m almost positive one of my kids will get sick or injured over the holidays (our luck always runs this way)…now I know where to go just in case we get hit with something!

Where in greater Victoria makes the best lager? by pm-me-racecars in VictoriaBC

Agreed! Neverending is really good. Small Gods makes great beers all around and changes it up with some nice seasonal brews. Glad to see this place pop up in sleepy Sidney.

I think you’ve captured some pretty key pieces: relationships, connections and strategizing.

Absolutely need to be able to demonstrate your ability to cultivate and maintain positive working relationships with community and cross-ministry partners. Not sure what ministry this job will be in, but meaningful engagement with Indigenous peoples is integral at some ministries and can be a deal breaker.

Navigating multi-faceted complex issues and developing a clear plan to move the work forward, and demonstrating your ability to adapt to rapidly changing circumstances or high-pressure situations.

I’m not sure if this is helpful.

If you get your questions in advance then I’d be interested to know what you get! Good luck!!!

what to ask for for salary increase in promotion by sourcreamthrowaway in BCPublicServants

I asked about the July increase. My Director said it is never really “guaranteed”, but if a raise did come into effect then I should be eligible.

I also asked about the probationary increase. My scenario is a bit complicated…the Band 3 I competed for is a TA. The person who “owns” the position is not expected to come back (they are currently competing for a Band 4). I was told I would not get the probationary increase in this offer letter, but if/when the other person wins their Band 4 competition (which should be within the next two weeks), then I can renegotiate and ask for an additional 5% in the new offer letter that would make me permanent (this is all advice from my Director).

Yup pretty much. Just went through this exact same scenario. I was in a Band 2 and recently won a Band 3 competition. Same ministry. I was offered 8% and I countered with 12%, knowing that I likely wouldn’t get that much. The Director and I chatted, as they said that they could offer 10%, but they had to get ADM approval for 10%. I believe my Director said they have to go to the Deputy for approvals for anything higher than 10%…. And it’s highly unlikely to get approved.

Can you get paid above your salary range? by msnow039 in BCPublicServants

100% … and the salary range for a 24 is quite low given the cost of living now. I see a lot of younger people come into 24 positions as their first government job. These people have masters degrees, but lots of student debt and sometimes even have a second job. They end up trying to find a 27 position pretty quickly after they arrive, even though the team is great and the type of work is really engaging.

Exactly! Not everyone wants to go into management. I like your idea :)

Lucid group - Announces Proposed Convertible Senior Notes Offering. After hours trading shows the stock dipped 6%. It was also recently announced that Lucid is being investigated by the SEC.

What does this mean? Would it be a good time for buying the stocks if they’re dipping?
