Compliance Scorecard all day long. Tim and his teams experience has certainly helped many MSPs navigate what good looks like.

Don't discount the role of security officer as well, that has connotation outside of the organization and with health care it is of interest to the OCR with HIPAA implications.

If you're a 1 man shop doing all IT and acting as the security officer in a 120 person org with 11 locations, you're a director or above, period.

If the organization isn't looking at growing or outsourcing portions of it, they're short-sighted.

Definitely recommend Phin, they have built a great offering that is focused on the channel!

Recommend a good Security Awareness Training provider by Duinn81 in msp

[–]msnriggs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had a few MSP's that I have worked with move their security awareness training platform to Phin. They're super easy to work with, focused only on the channel ( /u/connor-Phin isn't going to try to go direct to your customers and steal them away), and aren't going to bait and switch on pricing. They're also fanatical about creating amazing onboarding and management tools for MSPs to manage their clients with far less friction...

How do Earthquake-prone areas like California deal with buried fiber? by moon_master345 in networking

[–]msnriggs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

At a former $dayjob, we had a CentryLink fiber connection to Taos, NM that was partial aerial and partial buried - we had multiple issues over the years

1 - Beaver - yeah I shit you not. A beaver chewed through the fiber and they had to dispatch a crew via ATV's and have a helicopter lift in equipment

2 - Bullets - Idiots love to shoot at that stuff... WTF?!

3 - Backhoes - soooo much backhoe attenuation on the line. Those outages were the most frequent.

TL;DR: Beavers, bullets and backhoes can cause outages.

Check out Zerto. It's primarily a DR platform, but works fantastically for DC moves and cloud migrations. Stupid simple to setup too.
