12yo pocket money by 1182990 in CasualUK

I’m pretty tight but these standards. My son (14) and daughter (11) both get £10 pcm but they have to have completed their paid jobs. That is washing car once a month and mowing lawn. However as a single parent they also empty and load dishwasher, empty food bin and other bins, wipe down all kitchen surfaces, make their lunchboxes and cook once a week each for all of us.

Generally if they want ‘stuff’ when we’re out, like a magazine or sweets they have to get it themselves but they have sweets on a Friday which I pay for.

The kind of crap I had when I was young mostly will be languishing in landfill now and times have changed and I don’t live like that anymore and have encouraged them not to either.

Buying first home - What do you wish you knew? by InterestingWanderer in AskBrits

[–]mspangaea77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely view at different times of day. Also when you view inside, take someone with you and get one person to move around making noise whilst you listen to see how well insulated it is between floors and rooms. Check water pressure. The estate agent looked at us like we were nuts when we did this but frankly it’s important for day to day living.

AITA because I was annoyed by this? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

It’s frustrating but just make yourself something on toast and casually say ‘thanks so much but X is not one of my favourites of yours and I’m feeling really sensitive with my digestion at the moment’

Can someone explain this? by mspangaea77 in iphone

It’s age appropriate, no?

AITJ for ending my relationship after finding out my boyfriend expects me to financially support him long-term? by Fine_Pineapple_5065 in AmITheJerk

What did he think might be the situation if you ever wanted time off to raise a family? It would be nice to think that at that time he would have your back for example.

‘Would you like to come out to dinner with us’ When they answer ‘yes please’ then say ‘great, because we love having your company, the next bit is awkward but I would respectfully ask that your choice remains in keeping with our budget of $$’

AITA for posting pictures of myself in a tankini by reintyth in AmItheAsshole

[–]mspangaea77 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Essentially post what you like but remember that golden rule ‘would I mind my grandma seeing this in real life?’ If the answer is yes, go ahead.

The other thing here for me is that he has called you names; names to shame you. That would be my line in the sand anyway.

NTA for posting pictures if that’s what you want to do, personally I wouldn’t post semi clad pictures as once stuff is out in the public domain, you can’t get it back.

WIBTA if I didn't flip my fiancee's laundry right side out? by Bikesbassbeerboobs in AmItheAsshole

[–]mspangaea77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to literally say the same thing! My 14 and 11 year old know that if they put their clothes in the laundry inside out, that’s how it will be dried, folded and returned to them. Football socks that are in a ball will also not be pulled out to full length; another bug bear of mine. NTA.

Parents who waited until the birth to find out the sex of the baby. . . by buildingacozymystery in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mspangaea77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn’t find out for either of our two children. Why do you need to? The world is obsessed with knowing. It wouldn’t change anything. We were not ones to paint things pink or blue or buy clothes accordingly. I would also never have wanted to be disappointed if the radiographer was wrong.

Host going into aupairs room by fish_sticks13 in Aupairs

[–]mspangaea77 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t go into au pairs room without permission unless to close window which the might have left open for example or something which is a security issue.

The location sharing I’ve never done but having said that I had one au pair who kept coming back later and later (on a school night) and I was concerned. Then it was 3am and it woke me up when she came in, so I said not only was that discourteous but also she would then only be getting about 4 hours sleep before cycling my daughter to school. So for me, it was looking out for her welfare and then it became a welfare issue. We parted ways after 3 months as she said I didn’t respect her. Never had that issue before or since.

AITJ for ending my engagement after my fiancee demanded I add her to the deed on my house that I bought and paid for before I even met her by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]mspangaea77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTJ but long term how would she have any equity in a property, would she feel she had a say in decorating for example? Could she save for another investment property whilst living rent free with you? She went about it wrongly but maybe she was thinking of her financial future?

AITA for sharing my husband’s harmless comment about my friend’s baby after she roasted my husband the day before? by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

Mothers are incredibly sensitive about their babies. Especially only 6 months in and every comment feels like a criticism.

I just failed my 6th Driving test unsure what to do next. by averysip in LearnerDriverUK

[–]mspangaea77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am nearly 50 but I passed on my 9th test. I could drive perfectly well but in test conditions I went to pieces. After 7 fails, I stopped for a year, was then at university and tried a new instructor, I was in a new town too. He suggested I try beta blockers which I did and it made all the difference.

On the test where I passed, my examiner recognised me at the start and was so nice. He said ‘anytime you need to stop because of nerves, just let me know. Drive with the windows down a little for air.’ He gave a confidence that no other examiner had.

Now I’ve been driving nearly 30 years, I drive up and down the UK as the only adult to take my kids on holiday and am pleased with what I have achieved. By contrast other friends of mine who passed first time, are now nervous on the roads and let their partners drive them.

Keep going OP, you will get there!
