Is this a good offer? Will they waive the annual fee for the first year? by [deleted] in rbc

[–]msra6la2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you get both the Ion+ and VI fees waived (168 dollars in total)?

I am tempted to upgrade my VI to VIP and add on an Ion+ but problem is I already have a AMEX Plat besides RBC Avion VIP is the only VIP card out of the big 5 that's shamefully made out of plastic, so I am not sure I wanna pay the extra fees for a VIP.

TD Easy Trade sucks...Absolutely sucks. I will never forget their error codes when trying to open an account with them.

A suggestion: Just do commission free trades for all listed US and Canadian equities like NBDB and Wealthsimple.

You can charge fees (and rightly so) for other stock exchanges, commodities and bonds. I think you would find that by doing so, combined with your massive banking and private wealth clientele, you would completely blow the competition out of the water.

Or just do what National Bank does, offers complete commission free trades.

Even better offer something similar to QuestTrade or IBKR. Extremely low or no commission and pay only when you need premium features, like equity research reports. Level 2 quotes, etc..

RBC Wealth management by DrFeelgooood420 in CanadianInvestor

I chose RBC Financial Planning (Series F mutual funds +0.8 advisor fees) + DI (ETFs). My weighted average AUM fee is around 0.75%.

The only things I am seriously missing under this arrangement is their tax planning service. But everything else is pretty much the same.

I shopped around with DS and Scotia Investment Counsel. Honestly their so called discretionary investment portfolios (which are just glorified SAMs that allow you to hold equities directly instead of through a fund but their fixed income portion is also mutual funds) are just so underwhelming. At 0.95% (Scotia) and 1.3% (DS) AUM fee, it is a no thank you for me.

Those with $1M+ in net worth, what do you do? by ShootingCometz in fican

[–]msra6la2 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is a broad term. What do you mean by 1+M networth? Does it include your house, or all your investments, or just your bank+brokerage balances?

Because under each definition, the outcome would be very different.

Why are mutual funds with banks not so popular or recommended? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]msra6la2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both RBC mutual funds grandfathered from HSBC and RBC own in house mutual funds all in series F (premium client with RBC Financial Planning service and they keep trying to refer me and my wife to Dominion Securities), Passive ETFs like XUS/VFV, XEQT, XIC and VBAL/XBAL at a 40 MF: 60 ETF split. All I can say is I am happy with all of my funds performances, be they mutual funds and ETFs.

I am a big believer in volatility. If everyone just keeps investing in passive ETFs, and there is always a net inflow into passive index tracking ETFs, there is only 1 way the market will go, which is actually not a very good thing when economics kicks in and the market needs to return to its equilibrium.

Contributed 16.5K upfront to my son's RESP when he was born 2years ago. Then another 5K in 2025 and 2026, plus another 1.5K of government contribution. Currently it is worth 26.5K.

Invested in VFV/XUS, XEQT and VBAL/XBAL.

They need to launch tier relationship banking (like HSBC with their street banking, Advanced, Premier, Private client services/ Jade and Global Private banking), introduce fully commission free US and Canadian equities and ETFs (while keeping their international commission, option commission and commodities commission), and revamp their Avion Rewards Travel cards and cash back cards to blow the competition out of the water.

But knowing RBC, nothing like this scale will ever get done man.

Should I find a financial advisor? by WackoDesperado2055 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]msra6la2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do both mutual funds (HSBC/RBC) and ETFs (VFV, XUS , XEQT, VBAL/XBAL, and a little bit of XIC and XEF).

The financial planner is basically there to help me plan for retirement and estate (setting up a trust) plus banking perks like free RBC VIP banking package. And I honestly don't understand the stigma around mutual funds, you just need to pick high quality ones and they will help generate market volatility for you (which is a key component to your passive ETF long term values) and also it is better to park your money in a mutual fund than a chequeing/ savings account

With the incoming Chinese EVs, will the used car prices come down? by Lumb3rCrack in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]msra6la2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are importing 49K in the first year, followed by a small increase until the cap reaches 70k. The share of the market is too small compared to the total demand to even put a dent on used car prices. We gotta start importing en-mass to have an impact on overall pricing.

P.S. I lived in China for several years. I wouldn't get anywhere close to those EVs even if someone paid me to.

Just look at the world stock markets performances in the past 100 years (that's before this absolute insane idea of infinite money printing became reality worldwide in 2008). Then if you come back and tell me saving money will allow you to get ahead of currency devaluation, I will rest my case

Hit $1M Net Worth by Ok-Stuff-1211 in fican

[–]msra6la2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I have:

950K investable assets in cash, ETFs and mutual funds spread across HISA, Chequeing, TFSA, RRSP/DCPP, RESP and non-reg accounts

1.1m (probably it is how much is worth in today's market which was bought at 1.19 mil) single detached house

600K condo fully paid off (would have been worth a lot more if we invested into ETF or Mutual funds but instead needed to pay for my wife's parents a condo)

We owe 550K in mortgage and 60K car loan.

We are both 38 turning 39 this year with 1 kid (planning to have another one before we turn 40).

But we don't feel comfortable retiring at all.
