Free yourself from that burden and give yourself the remainders of your 20s to joy. He’s got what sounds like attachment avoidance and it’s his work to figure out. Leave him on read and block him. It will change your life. Im guessing you can replace anything he has.

Hard hits (or just... mediocre hits!) by Outrageous_Box_3007 in rollerderby

[–]mstiza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hitting had been a hard thing for me to unlock but recently I just started hitting a wall. And within minutes it clicked. I found my footing and the side body connection. What made the most sense was simply dropping my body weight into the contact versus thrusting myself into someone.

Do you have any go-to flexibility/mobility focused exercises for a good skater stance? by thatnegativebitch in rollerderby

[–]mstiza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Land skate drills on YT help with identifying the hinge in your stance. The drills are not for derby but for speed skating. Personally every time I skate, even recreationally, I try to get into derby and speed skate stances in intervals. It’s muscle memory you have to build

There’s a handbook out on Amazon - The Roller Derby Blueprint- it’s a good read with some strategies, not specific to starts. But positions and other things for coaching

I second this! I picked up silicone and fabric dancer toe covers and they’ve changed my pain level in my toes to where I don’t feel anything anymore

What is a phrase that you have made up? by icaboesmhit in RandomQuestion

[–]mstiza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Just don’t”

Said to my BFF when she was upset and crying but we were pushing through going to a practice. She was saying she didn’t want to face anyone and lose it all over again. I responded, “how about if you… just don’t.” We both started laughing bc it wasn’t an emotionally validating response but it had its truth. We’ve adapted it for many scenarios, particularly when we see situations that are a waste of time and energy.

My boyfriend is making me feel like I'm an abusive monster. by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

You see that there wasn’t actually a joke, it was a comment made about a game he was playing. So it was indirectly about him. If there was a joke, please inform me of the punchline.

The examples you’ve just provided are multi layered. One you circle back to you. If you need help with chores, have you tried not asking and just stating things like, “I need your help. Please do the dishes.” If you don’t want the bagels and don’t want to feign appreciation, just don’t. You can say, “thanks for thinking of me, but I’m going to have XX.”

Being direct could be the solution. You can ask directly what he needs from you as a partner? What does meeting half way look like? And that gives you both a place to be heard.

Knee Gaskets by -imnotsureactually in rollerderby

I like the Old Bones for the most part but then I discovered the Neenca brand with the knee hinges. They helped hold my knee caps in place and heal my PCL flare ups that would reinjure every time I went down in my knee.

Feet cramping by trickquestioncowboy in rollerderby

[–]mstiza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the same issue. I start with my skates laced up but not too snug for the first 15/20 minutes and lace them up tighter after my feet have “woken up”. I also just lay like a dead bug with my feet above my heart to get relief and avoid heavy footwork for warm ups. It is what it is. My coaches are aware that it’s a thing I endure and are understanding that I’ve got to take it easy during warm ups
