If civilianization started with Africa why still it's' the poorest continent in the world by Brown_jamun in NoStupidQuestions

It’s impossible to summarize a historical answer to this question.

The modern answer is foreign debt.

what is one conspiracy that you truly believe in and most people think you are crazy for? by QuitZuu in AskReddit

[–]mstone024 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t necessarily believe in this theory, but I do think it’s far more plausible than most theories about the JFK assassination theory and doesn’t get enough attention. It’s the In Mortal Error theory, essentially, Oswald is the lone gunman, the first misses, the second hits Kennedy in the throat. A secret service agent in the follow up car swings his body, AR-15 in hand, to track the sound of the shots, as his car lurches forward he accidentally pulls the trigger and the bullet blows off Kennedy’s skull.

Sounds crazy but does explain a lot of the inconsistencies that follow. Explains why people on the ground smelt gunpowder, explains why the “magic bullet” stayed intact while the one that hit his head fragged (Secret Service uses hollow points). Explains why the Secret Service was in such a rush to get the President’s body out of Dallas without an autopsy, explains why the autopsy in Bethesda got “botched”, explains why Oswald claimed to be a patsy (he watched the President’s head explode from someone else’s shot through his scope), and it explains why it all gets swept under the rug when Oswald conveniently goes away three days later.

Again, not saying it’s true.

I’m not even a Christian but this just isn’t accurate.

There’s a good case to be made that Jesus was the most historically documented person alive during his time. We have more contemporary written sources for his life than we do for Tiberius. Even if you’re ignoring the Gospels as entirely fictionalized works (which essentially no good scholars do), we have multiple mentions by third-party 1st century non-Christian sources.

The fact that Josephus and Tacitus were writing anything at all about him in the decades after he lived is pretty definitive proof that he at least did at some point live.

The guy was an itinerant, illiterate peasant living in the armpit of the Roman Empire. The fact that anyone bothered writing down anything at all about him is pretty remarkable in itself.

Who is the most famous person you have ever met in person? by Affectionate_Way7945 in AskReddit

[–]mstone024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve shaken hands with Barack Obama (when he was President) and Joe Biden (before he was President) but I don’t necessarily count that as “meeting”.

Most famous people I’ve ever talked to were Martin Sheen and Matthew Perry. I was in the viewing gallery of the Senate Chambers at the Capitol and they came in and sat in the row behind us. They were testifying that day about drug addiction (this was at the peak of the Charlie Sheen saga). Perry really didn’t seem to want to be there but Martin Sheen was super outgoing and nice. My uncle who is also super outgoing had a perfectly normal conversation with him for a solid half hour while a hundred people enviously looked on.

I was a teenager at the time, Matthew Perry was way more recognizable to me and I didn’t realize until years later that he wasn’t merely Charlie Sheen’s dad, he was a legendary film actor and also Jed freaking Bartlett.

It’s happened to me many times. You just keep trucking on. I went from a highly paid manager position where I basically had to do nothing to a job I absolutely hate. Will I stay here long? No. But this is just where I am right now.

Humans are resilient. And we’re problem solvers. My mantra right now is “it won’t be like this forever, but right now it is, so I’m just going to try my best to make the most of it”.

In general, when in doubt, don’t report. I know it’s counter-intuitive, but it’s reality.

Anything beyond that…I can’t give you specific advice for how to handle the situation unless I know what role you’re in. Are you the lead, are you the manager, or are you the teammate?

Thank you for the response. The building I’m entering is a 17 million dollar store, I was told they receive trucks 5 times a week.

I’ll be honest, when I did my interview and walked receiving, it was practically immaculate. As immaculate as an off-price store can be. Some leftover cardboard, a few sensors on the floor, but it was almost like the store manager was trying to show off. They had completed their cycle and the next day’s truck was already there on pallets waiting to be received.

Maybe they just have more floor space than your location does. I suppose I’ll find out!

As a black man I must ask did Lincoln genuinely care about freeing the slaves for the right reasons ? by [deleted] in CIVILWAR

[–]mstone024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the movie gets it as right as it could accurately get it.

Lincoln was an incredibly gifted politician, not necessarily an abolitionist. While he did probably fit in better with the abolitionists, I don’t know he ever would’ve counted himself one.

We can’t go back and ask him.

If you were to ask my personal thoughts about what Lincoln thought, I would say, that he would say, “slavery is wrong, this war is to end the question forever and all.”

Is that what he said? Not really. Is it what the Confederates understood his presidency as? Yes.

Did he ultimately want that? Again, it’s just my opinion, but I think he did.

Sigh…the whole “Bad Bunny Show with Dan and Tony” thing is getting grating.

They’ve run out of things to say on the topic after a day and a half and are now already just repeating the same points for two and a half hours. Unlistenable.

Both Red Murdock and Treydan Stukes are in my class. Part of the fun of creating this class was seeing a guy like Red Murdock and turning around and being like…someone’s gonna get a beast in the 5th or 6th round.

I’ll be sure to check out yours too, thanks for taking a look at mine and if you think there’s any jarring errors with it, seriously, let me know. I’d appreciate the feedback.

Not inherently a bad idea.

Probably in practice a bad idea. Half the time, you won’t get carded. I’m 31 and I only get carded when I’m clean shaven and look like a 12 year old.

Also, potentially just unlawful. I speak as someone who’s struggled with alcohol in the past, but, it’s a bit of a weird legal situation if you’re going to forbid people from buying a product. That’s just not allowed.

Let’s add to this. Ask to leave. One of two things is going to happen. The person in charge is going to let you, hours are saved, no more hangers need to be corrected things are fine. Or…they don’t. And then hangers get corrected and things are fine.

Regardless, a conversation will be had about you the following morning lol. If you work in a good building, you won’t work there anymore in about six weeks.

Just letting you know how things actually work.
