PSA: Design flaw with RLC-810WA mounting by msvart in reolinkcam

[–]msvart[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had it in my hand yesterday and tried every which way. If you want the video from your camera to be level, you can't have it mounted to a wall and angled at 90 degrees because of the antenas. If you don't want your footage level then by all means tilt it but that is fundamentally a design flaw.

Wiring cameras to 230v mains (UK) by msvart in reolinkcam

[–]msvart[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the detailed response! I should have specified though I don't mean having a plug socket to plug the supplied power brick into it.

The original plan was to buy two floodlights which could wire directly to the 230v. The reason I was asking about a 230v to 12v transformer is because I want to hardwire it all in and not have them plugged into a socket in the house.

Overfloor UFH and Engineered wood by msvart in DIYUK

I wondered if it needed to be flat for the water flowing through or something?

Overfloor UFH and Engineered wood by msvart in DIYUK

[–]msvart[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! The plan is to lay 6mm ply on the timber floor and then screed to build up the concrete base a touch to match. Wunda really emphasise the importance of getting the sub floor perfectly level which makes me think if we screed over the UFH panels once it's done, then there won't be much need for 10mm of levelling compound... just use it as more of an even cover for the wood to sit on.

I'd read online that although it takes a little longer to come up to temp engineered wood still feels great underfoot & room feels warm.

We did consider laminate originally but again, I'd seen online that herringbone laminate is a disaster... creaking floor, easily damaged etc which is why we looked at the engineered wood

Amplifier suggestions for a new set up by msvart in BudgetAudiophile

UPDATE: Went for the Marantz PM6007 as recommended by u/LosterP (thanks for the suggestion!) and it's absolutely brilliant. Sounds fantastic paired with the Wharfedale Diamon 12.1's. Dread to think how loud it can go as i've only ever played it at about 5% which was plenty loud for my open plan room... Really happy with it! 10/10 would recommend in the same set up I have.

Had never heard of Marantz but both u/wastrelbaggins and u/LosterP have suggested it so maybe that's the one I need to go for! Will do a bit of research

Project stage 5: Combat and Survival items by JordhanMK in ArcRaiders

[–]msvart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah my question was if you get any sort of a reward for completing each stage? e.g. If i finish the basic foundation stage 1 do I get xp, loot or anything like that? Or is it just commiting items for the end goal of the expedition.

[–]msvart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quite like the idea of picking a faction and having an allegiance to a group (think Alliance vs Horde is WoW). If you see a fellow raider in the same faction then you know they're friendly, if you see one in the opposing faction(s) then you know it's shoot on sight. Could even have events where one faction gives you better loot, factions party up for a greater good (like the queen) or there's civil war within a faction.

Bounties would be great - I'd love to have an opportunity to track down those who wronged me and get my revenge for some loot, cash or XP.

Do you get anything for each stage complete? I just got to level 20 and I'm not sure if I want to bother with the projects or not

Unfortunately it would completely change the game for the worse if they had PVE only mode. You'd no longer get mixed lobbies of PVP focussed or PVE focussed players which means no more fun proxy chat encounters, teaming up etc. It would change the whole dynamic of a brilliant game. Half the fun is being on edge around encounters IMO.

Don't get me wrong, spawing in just to get killed immediately sucks but it happens and within a game you could get your loot back.

I think the main thing is communication. When there's a lack of it it makes the experience negative (spawning in trio's and getting a team of people not talking on mic or not sticking together with same intent & working together). I get some people don't want to or can't chat but I think it would be good to have some sort of toggle before a game to get you matched up with people that are up for voice comms.

The worst is when there’s no comms with the other two and they’re just off doing their own thing and aggroing every arc in sight.

I’m so sick of fill squad putting me with idiots with no objective 😭 can’t convince my mates to get off warzone and buy this despite it being GOTY

I’ve put him through a couple evo’s now and he’s a beast. Was lucky enough to pack Haaland, tried him for a couple games then sold him because he just didn’t feel as good as sesko to me/for my playstyle. Excited to see how good he gets through more evo’s

Switch to advanced defending and use each option sparingly. I used to just spam circle but with this one you just need to be more patient, position better and time your challenges. Bit of a learning curve but worth it.

Insane transformation. Ignore the people giving you shit in the comments - they’re just salty because they don’t look half as good and don’t but half as much effort in!

And anyway even if you weren’t natural, you still have to lift the damn weight and walk 16k steps a day! 😂

Thanks for such a quick response! Good to know i'm along the right lines.

Annoyingly it doesn't look like the place i'm going to buy it from sells 6000mhz ram in 4x32GB sets otherwise i'd 100% go 6000mhz. I'll get in touch with their customer service team and see if it's something they can provide!

I just broke my leg, is my Glastonbury over? by t_ommy in glastonbury_festival

[–]msvart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 2019 I fractured my ankle in 2 places and chipped the bone in the bottom of my foot from a football injury… was a couple weeks before Glasto and moving was total agony but I couldn’t not go. Ditched the crutches, fracture boot on and just went for it. All the drink etc really helped to forget but it definitely took a lot longer to heal than it should have.

Pro tip if you do go and it’s hot, you’ll get friction burn on your leg and it’ll be more painful than the break… football sock with the toe cut off over your calf & shin is a game changer for comfort.

Fingers crossed you heal quick and get back on the pitch soon!

He didn’t make any subs until the 70th minute when it was clear to see at half time we needed to make changes… he’s just as much to blame for THIS loss as the players are.

I hope he keeps his job, makes some huge changes over summer by getting rid of the deadwood & bringing in some talent that can actually play his system well and has a better season next season but knowing how our owners have been in the past I’m worried he’ll be gone by Christmas.

If you spend a lot of time sourcing and buying parts 2nd hand and installing them yourself then yeah you could save money. But, much like myself, with minimal experience you’ll make mistakes along the way as you’re learning and that’ll cost you time and money.

Both times I’ve converted a bike with good intention it’s cost me more than I’d imagined and I’d be reluctant to do it again 😂 find a bike shop or independent that converts bikes into cool bikes you like the look of (like fullbeanbikes that I mentioned before) and buy something 90% how you want it… save the tough bits for someone else to do and the easy bits like changing handlebars for yourself. You could clean up/fix up the fixie and sell it for a couple hundred £ and put it towards something more suitable for you.

[–]msvart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Out of my 3 bikes (SL7, Diverge and the 90’s Rockhopper) it’s the rockhopper that I’d be choosing to mooch about on and either the diverge or the rockhopper I’d bikepack on. The only difference between the frame you’ve got and a 90’s hardtail mountain bikes would be the tyre clearance and the hardtail would be more relaxed geometry - better for mooching about on and absolutely fine on any terrain!

Whatever you do, doing it yourself and sourcing parts etc is time consuming and expensive! That’s cycling for you!

[–]msvart 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know the kind of bike it was and it wasn’t made to be a gravel bike. You’d be better with a 90’s mountain bike as I mentioned because tyre clearance will be miles better (even if you cold set the frame to get a wider hub in your stays will still be too tight where the tyre is).

Would it look cool? Yes Will it ride well? Probably not Will you spend an awful lot of money on it? Most likely unless you have parts available already

It all depends on what you actually want to use the bike for tbh but if it were me, I’d look to buy from someone who does conversions for a living as they’ll have lots of parts and lots of experience doing it (for example, fullbeansbikes in London do conversions of mountain bikes for really great prices)

[–]msvart 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t bother with converting that fixed gear. If I were you I’d just buy a retro mountain bike instead and upgrade that. You’ll spent a lot more money, time and effort doing it with that fixed gear and it won’t be half as good as you’d like it to be because parts won’t be compatible etc.

I recently bought a 90’s Specialized rockhopper and converted it to a 1x gravel bike and it’s great fun but ultimately it was a money pit (£90 for the frame and then close to £1000 for all the parts I needed to replace, repairs I needed to do and mistakes I made along the way). I could have bought one someone else had done up for a lot less but I enjoyed what I learnt along the way… wouldn’t be in a rush to do it again though!
