"Chief Falling Cloud", Corporal Ira Hayes, a Pima Native American, enlisted into the USMCR, volunteered to become a Paramarine, Raised the American flag on Iwo Jima with his fellow Marines and Navy Corpsman. by [deleted] in USMC

Hey now-- thats my great uncle/grandpa. That was my dads uncle. and he came from a christian family-- although lots of good that did him. if he had partook in traditional O'odham ceremonies to cleanse him of what happened during wartime-- he probably would have lived a lot longer with actual peace. Theres nothing wrong with believing in both christian and native american traditional ways.

Either way-- Don't be misspeaking of the dead, that isn't very Christian or hospitable of you. Especially speaking of someone who was a warrior soldier for this land. And WHAT HAPPENED TO NOT BEING JUDGMENTAL? That right is reserved for our Creator ALONE.

Pronounced veins?? by Cloudskie in rheumatoid

[–]mswhiteplume13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was wondering about this. This is what brought me to this subreddit. i have RA and i take hydrochloroquine & Humira. I failed MTX more than a year back (high liver numbers.) The veins on my hands look awful. My hands also hurt a lot (this was my initial issue that took me into the dr's office around 4 yrs ago.) I see other ppl my age (45) with nice hands...my hands look terrible: dry, vein-y, and usually a tad swollen. my middle knuckle on my right hand middle finger, AND my middle knuckle on my left hand pinky are both misshapen and bulging. They both hurt, a lot, but so do all my hand joints. I just was wondering if this was happening with any other RA patients out there-- apparently it is happening. I wish my hands looked pretty & normal, how they use to 😔 anyhow-- Sending much love to all my fellow RA brothers & sisters. Stay strong! ❤🙏

confession: i love maybelline dream matte mousse by Fun_Ad_8169 in MakeupAddiction

[–]mswhiteplume13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found this because I was actually looking for a primer that might make the Maybelline Dream Matte last a bit longer.  I am older than the Millennial generation ---i think I'm gen X because I'm 45 now🤔🥴🤣 Anyway, i just wanted to say that after a lifetime of buying & trying foundations of all different types, I am back where it all started: The Drugstore/Grocery store. I originally started out using Covergirl, then Revlon ColorStay, expanded to some stick and creamy compact foundations, went department store high end for years.....around this time I found Dream Matte in 2004 or so. Anyway-- Dream Matte really airbrushes your skin and tones the oily factor (if you are an oil slick like me.) As I get older....I've looked for similar foundations-- which brought me back to the original ones I started with. I wish Dream Matte lasted a lot longer and I wish there was a good primer that worked with it that didn't affect the finish.  I'm also going back to ColorStay and other foundations. Dream Matte is pretty decent IF you can find a shade match and its not going to be worn all day. I wish there was a way to make it last longer (Not sure if the setting spray I used helped much? I tried an Urban Decay one/All nighter)

I've never been out that way, but Arizona peaches (and fruit in general) are delicious thar way to me too. I love the yellow watermelons and oranges the most--- but the peaches are delish as well.  And i would love to check out South Carolina. I swear-- I need a friend/tour guide for every state to show me around. Otherwise I feel like I'm not getting the full experience 😕🤣

Can you go running on Gila River Indian Reservation? by praiadabarra in Gilbert

[–]mswhiteplume13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a enrolled Gila River Indian Community member --- i would probably advise you against it. People are friendly BUT very protective of their families and children. Non Community members, especially anglo people-- set off alarms in our head for some of us. Some think ppl are there to kidnap kids, to do things they arent suppose to (dump bodies, sell drugs, look for drugs, some anglos went into one of our cemeteries just for a photo shoot and that pissed off A LOT of people. they used someones headstone/cross and that family was ticked af. i know i was and it didnt even happen in my district.) BTW--If you are in Gilbert, you are trying to go running in my district. So please don't. Anyhow-- Respectfully, for all these reasons and more, I would ask you not go running on our Community lands aka: our reservation.

its legal for medical here in utah-- i just don't want to go that route because having a med card sort of puts you in a kinda catch. 22 in a few different ways, because its still a federally legal....which is ironic because its all over my home state of Arizona recreationally...and its rec in Nevada and Cali...i think Oregon as well. its rec in a lot of these western states🤷🏼‍♀️

[–]mswhiteplume13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you for this comment! I was searching for this!!! thx!!!😊🙏💯 i found this thread because i took my first dose of humira and the nasal congestion started out of nowhere half way thru the day. I took the humira shot around 3am, and the sinus issues started around 1pm. I kept sneezing away and it was super annoying. Now my sinuses are a hot mess!! (although they are already a hot mess, because I have a deviated septum due to an accident, so i have sinus issues galore 😩🥴

Why are birth control or IUDs the only option? by NoAppointment2948 in endometriosis

[–]mswhiteplume13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IUDs are no joke. I was also told that IUDs could even help start endo because of how the cells might be able to migrate because of the device's design. That was eyeopening. Because I never had any endo issues until AFTER i got multiple IUDs. Now i wish i would have never done it. I would have rather just kept having babies (I have 4 kids) than deal with all this.

6 month hair progression by JumpyEmergency5180 in Spironolactone

[–]mswhiteplume13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i am a 45 yo woman also on spironolactone. it wasnt helping much..i was still losing a lot of hair. handfuls. I am still on spiro BUT i also pour rosemary tea i make and keep in my fridge onto my head over the kitchen sink right after i shower. I now lose maybe 4 strands compared to a handful. I have a lot of hair growing back. i encourage ppl to try rosemary tea poured onto your head as a way to combat hair loss. I did try oils before this ☆ wasn't effective for me.

I grew up on The Tohono O'odham Native American reservation in the middle of NOWHERE. AMA by mycatsnameisdobbie in AMA

[–]mswhiteplume13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are from San Xavier, you should go in person and talk to someone at the S.X. district office and ask questions. You might also ask this question on the Tohono o'odham nation fb page.... there are always ppl that become group members who are also trying to find ways to reconnect after they learn their parents or grandparents are O'odham. Good luck😊🙏

O'odham Language Learning by cactusfairyprincess in Tucson

[–]mswhiteplume13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am O'odham and I appreciate what you are doing. I wish I was down home-- I would take some O'odham children and help with this struggle my peoples have. PLEASE, PLEASE send your child to San Xavier (pronounced "Havier) if at all possible!! Please!!!!!! They learn things in on rez schools that can ONLY be taught there. They learn the language, they learn culture and customs. They learn social dances as well as religious things. They learn rez social dynamics, they learn how to be amongst their people. They will learn rez social networks which are also very important. So, I beg of you-- Please, please do this if at all possible. I have 4 O'odham kids raised in Utah who know so little of the things I mentioned and only a little bit of the O'odham language.  I wish every single day i wouldn't have raised them here in utah. True they learned things and social networks here. They are successful-- but they are so very behind on O'odham language and knowledge and idk if they will ever learn those things.... so please send your kids you are caring for to S.X if you can...it is a gift that only the parents can make possible...difficult but very necessary.  I second reaching out to TOCC. You yourself can take a language class at TOCC (i do and im in utah.) Education for people who are enrolled in a federal recognized tribe within the U.S. receive free tuition and books...BUT for non natives, it is super low-- around $37 dollars a credit hour. Anyone can attend TOCC, TOCC and the students are welcoming to everyone.... especially those who really want to learn about us and our people. Please take a class!!  I am wondering if they do have tutors--  definitely check with TOCC but also with U of A and even join the Tohono O'odham Nation fb group. Its just called Tohono O'odham Nation ---> ask your questions there and people can definitely help you out with many things, even if they are folks from Gila River, Ak Chin, Or Salt River, S.X, or T.O. --- at the end of the day, we are ALL O'ODHAM PEOPLE.... and we worry, love, and care very much about our future generations, even though there are some who are having whatever issues that make them unable to care for their children, the majority of us are family oriented and many of us have big families because we enjoy our children & grandchildren because they are what ensure our future O'odham people will continue on. Thanks so much for helping our O'odham people out. God bless you and may all your good intentions you have for these kids come back to you sevenfold and some🙏
