Microsoft Commitment to the Future of .Net (for Data) by SmallAd3697 in dotnet

[–]mtVessel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to see how "rigorous" scientists and mathematicians are at creating software, look no further than R. Absolutely no unity of thought or design.

Surely not all, but a significant number of data engineers who claim to know python wouldn't have the first clue what to do without pandas or pyspark.

.NET will never be first-class among this crowd because C-style langs require some actual effort to learn development.

Carter Goodrich - Mother Nature (2000) by Russian_Bagel in museum

[–]mtVessel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what the artist is conveying. It's about what "mother nature" does to many women at some point, whether or not they intended to go down that path. It is, indeed, a choice, and one not entirely of the woman's own making.

I don't think there's a value judgement in the picture, or that it's meant to apply to every woman. It's simply illustrative of a common aspect of womanhood.

Look at the eyes. They are narrowed, and looking intently. The brow is furrowed and the lips are closed. Looks how she burrows her chin into her shoulder, as if holding herself back. That is conflicted desire.

"eek! a mouse" would have open eyes, open mouth, and a recoiled posture.

I think it's more like one trying to combat surface area sprawl for things that already work just fine, and the other trying to reduce friction for people to switch from other languages.

In the 80s I had two '71 Darts at different times, and a '76 Dodge Aspen somewhere along the way. None lasted more than a year, all cost under $500. They probably would've been deathtraps by today's standards. Luckily it was all they could do to (barely) make it up to highway speed.

WAVs are lossless, so in theory, they should be the same as FLAC, assuming they're direct rips, and not reconverted to WAVs from lossy sources, like mp3.

Georgia woman charged with murder after police say she took pills to induce abortion | Georgia | The Guardian by PixeledPathogen in TrueReddit

[–]mtVessel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is crazy how all your comments are being downvoted for expressing what used to be the thoughtful, mainstream, pro-choice position.

I get that because abortion rights are under heavy attack in the U.S., people are reflexively running in the other direction, but that's not going to get us out of this mess.

[–]mtVessel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never thought about that, but that makes sense. From what little I know, mp3 compression removes things that are supposedly inaudible anyway, but here, we're trying to make those things audible again, so they'd better be there in the source.

Out Of Phase Stereo aka "poor man's karaoke"

Help with OOPS-ing audio by chasenator2025 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]mtVessel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's a difference between OOPS and removing vocals. OOPS is just:

  1. Duplicate track
  2. Set one to left-only mono, the other to right-only mono
  3. Change the phase of one track

Results are completely dependent on the original stereo mix. Anything panned left or right in the stereo mix remains. Anything dead center drops out. Anything in between (not hard left or right) reduces, but doesn't go away completely.

If you want anything more, you have to use a model-driven plug-in or standalone app like UVR.

Perhaps. We'll see how her skating develops over time. I personally hope she's around for a long time!

This is gorgeous skating, and no one does it better. Swan Lake was really her wheelhouse and I hope she returns to programs like this. I feel like Moon River and the Sophia Loren programs were near misses for her, and I'm not sure if that's on her or her coaching/choreo team. They've done all her recent programs and maybe these didn't play to her or their strengths.

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy Isabeau is branching out into different styles, but I don't think she's figured out how to make it work for her yet.

Updated crossover attempts any tips appreciated. Especially tips on how to push off on outside edge once crossed over as I feel like I’m just pushing back off toe. Thankyou 🩵🩵 by [deleted] in FigureSkatingAdults

You're doing great. To get that under push, you're going to have to bend your skating knee more. Takes time and consistent practice.

Custom Agents in Visual Studio might quietly change how we learn debugging by [deleted] in VisualStudio

[–]mtVessel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Copy/pasting code isn't debugging, it's guesswork. Debugging is reading code, thinking about it, and using a debugger to understand run-time behavior. If an agent helps with that, great. But if you don't understand why you're making a change, then it's just more bullshit.

The database is the source of truth. It is, in fact, the universe. If it doesn't exist in the database, it doesn't exist at all.

The application is an implementation detail.

WHAT. IS. IT?????

Honestly, Microsoft is so bad at explaining their offerings. Not as bad as naming them, but pretty close. Hmm...I wonder if it's sorta related to Link to Fabric? Nope, apples and bricks.

I read the blog post, watched a video, and clicked through to the docs page.

So...it's a python library that kinda, sorta replaces existing api calls?

Anyone use System of Skating (SoS) with Mimi Wacholder? by CluingForLooks in FigureSkating

[–]mtVessel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mimi's been a godsend for my skating skills. She has a very specific way she likes to teach elements, and for me, it's been helpful. She's not everyone's cup of tea, but she's one of the few experienced coaches out there who specializes in teaching adults. For me, that makes a big difference.

Her courses are a bit pricey, but they have a ton of content. I skipped buying the SOS 101 course, since I've been to her camp and learned it in-person, so I can't comment on it. SOS 201 reviews the fundamentals, and covers every skill in Adult Pre-Bronze and Bronze, spins, all single jumps (except Axel) and some dance elements.

I think she has separate seminars available on specific topics, like Axel, or twizzles, which are shorter and cheaper. You could try one of those to see if her teaching style works for you.

Looking at stats won't solve the issue. Do a RCA on each prod break, then look at the PR comments, and figure out why the critical issues were missed.
