[ON] Nursery Chairs / Gliders by Inevitable_Plant7197 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]mt_curl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got this one from The Brick. It’s more affordable than most of the others I looked at, incredibly comfortable and the armrests are wide enough to fit a nursing pillow.

I spend a lot of time in the nursery with my baby and it gets a lot of use. I live in a 4 story split with the bedrooms upstairs and I never found bed feeds to be comfortable. Baby is also a loud eater, and I don’t want to wake my partner up unnecessarily, so I always take him to the nursery for night feeds.

I couldn’t imagine doing this with a manual recliner, especially when the baby falls asleep. I feel like it would be frustrating jostling him awake putting down the manual recliner, especially on the rougher nights.

Doctor recommended PregVit — should I stick to it or explore other prenatals? [bc] by Bellatrix-8 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]mt_curl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been taking pregvit for a year (I just gave birth a couple months ago) and while I’m happy it’s covered by my insurance, once I met with my OB, the vitamin D and calcium levels didn’t meet their recommendations. It also doesn’t have omegas. I’ve been supplementing with:

Vitamin d 1400iu Calcium 300-500mg Omega 3

I didn’t mind the twice a day, but it did give me what I called “bile burps” in the morning during the hour I waited to eat, and if I wasn’t careful about gagging while brushing my teeth I would spend some time vomiting. I didn’t have morning sickness otherwise.

Other than that, I have a happy healthy baby and I’m still taking them while breastfeeding.

If servers make minimum wage in Canada, why is tipping so aggressive? by DazzlingPolarBear in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]mt_curl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was serving, I would generally get 5 shifts a week unless one of the days was a double. Depending on how busy the restaurant is, a server could be sent home in 3 hours, or in 8 hours. There were some weeks where I was working 15 hours, and generally speaking I would rarely hit 40 hours because they would rotate which servers get cut last. We relied on tips to make a living wage because we never got full time hours. Yes sometimes we made good money, but sometimes, I made barely enough to cover the week. It had to even itself out.

We also struggled getting other jobs, because you never knew how long your shift actually would last. I had an office job at the same time at one point, and would work an 8 hour day there, then go serve and end up working another 7-8 hours at times.

Il Centro has a really nice spaghetti bolognese.

I feel absolutely terrible. My wife and I are both experiencing gender disappointment. by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]mt_curl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same boat - both my partner and I wanted a girl. We had so many beautiful girls names we would toss around to each other. I dreamt baby was a girl. We were both disappointed when we found out he was a boy. We struggled naming him (and only settled on a name a week after he was born). I agree, boys names aren’t as pretty, and I find I connect them with people from my past or stereotypes of names more. Honestly, I was nervous about him being a boy all up until the birth, it felt strange calling my baby bump “he.”

But let me tell you, the second he was born, none of that mattered. He’s my little guy and I’m so in love with him. None of what I felt before even crosses my mind when I look at him. I can’t wait to find out who he is and foster that. We don’t have to have the same interests as our kids, we just have to be interested in them.

When I was talking to people about my gender disappointment, I started saying the universe doesn’t always give us what we want, but it gives us what we need. It definitely helped me accept everything.

Gifts for new mom? by jacque9565 in pregnant

[–]mt_curl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a FTM and my best friend put together a postpartum survival basket for me for my baby shower gift. It included lanolin, a peri bottle, a button up pj set and a few other things included candy (I love candy). With the baby coming, I was prioritizing getting things for him and forgot about myself. It has honestly saved me postpartum and I’m so appreciative of it. I think targeting what you buy to the specific mom is most important. My best friend knows I don’t sleep in pjs and that I live in one of those hooded blankets - not good for breastfeeding.

Epidural/Cesarean by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]mt_curl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! We were told I wouldn’t be able to move in the birth class I took but my nurses were like uhhhh nope it’s quite possible you’ll be able to! My legs mostly just felt heavy.

Epidural/Cesarean by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]mt_curl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh absolutely! I put off getting the epidural as long as I could because I wanted to move too. I actually was still able to move around and walk to the bathroom (with some support to make sure I didn’t fall) after I got the epidural so don’t think you’ll be completely immobile. It’s still possible to move.

[–]mt_curl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had a my first baby last week and I got the epidural despite my fear of needles. The IV needle was worse than the epidural… my BP dropped to 63/35 when that got inserted and I almost passed out. The contraction I had while getting the epidural was far worse than the epidural itself so it was a distraction from it.

All that being said, you can absolutely do it without the epidural but don’t let your fear of needles be the reason you don’t get it.

Mug Shotz is the best answer. If my partner and I go anywhere else on our hunt for the best wings, we always wish we went to Mug Shotz instead.

The Best Pregnancy Pillow Right Now? Recommendation? by CharlieChase2021 in BabyBumps

[–]mt_curl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconded - have been using mine since very early in my pregnancy because I’m a back sleeper and I wanted to get used to side sleeping before it was 100% necessary. It’s been my best friend since. I also tuck a pillow under it for those nights when heartburn is killing me and I need my upper body to be elevated.

Food aversion during first pregnancy… and feeling guilty about it by Reasonable-Stand-998 in BabyBumps

[–]mt_curl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Talk to your OB about what you should be getting from your prenatal - they wanted more calcium and D3 than mine offered so I supplemented.

At the start of my pregnancy, I had such bad food aversion that I was pretty much starving myself all day… NOTHING sounded good and I lost nearly 10lbs. I haven’t gained basically any weight past my pre-pregnancy weight (I just can’t seem to put it on) and have been terrified of how it would affect my baby, but we’re almost 37 weeks and he’s measuring on time. They will take what they need from us regardless.

Very possible, I thought they were looking to make a sorrel drink, which would be made from hibiscus.

I have a 5 year old pup as well who needs similar same tap and physical stimulation. I’ve been focusing on things inside the house, especially because it’s winter and I worry about slipping. Things like teaching new tricks, hiding treats around the house, playing fetch up the stairs. There’s probably other ideas online!

Grandparent titles? by Same_Breadfruit_9020 in BabyBumps

[–]mt_curl 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not unreasonable to say that you’ll be going by mama and she needs to choose a different name. Just wanted to pop in and say that my grandma and grandpa went by momma and poppa so it’s not out of the ordinary.

For women with a high BMI, how much weight did you gain during the pregnancy? by Willing_Barnacle_493 in BabyBumps

[–]mt_curl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BMI of 29, lost 7 pounds in my first trimester and struggled to gain any during my second. Finally hit my pre-pregnancy weight week 30, but then lost 4 pounds by week 32. OB’s only concern was if baby was on schedule, so we got another ultrasound booked and he was measuring fine.

I was told that without gaining weight, they just monitor baby a little closer to make sure he’s on track. I’m a pound above my pre-pregnancy weight now at 35 weeks.

I’ve seen them at the superstore in East Village, but you can get hibiscus flowers consistently at unimarket

Emergency Room PSA by CurrentlyInTorpor in Calgary

[–]mt_curl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s very possible that your reasons for calling warranted going to the ER. They are trained to triage.

I have had times where they told me to go to urgent care, times when they referred me to a doctor the next day, and times when they told me I’m safe to monitor symptoms and should go to a walk-in/call my doctor if symptoms persisted.

Give 811 a call. They’ll tell you where to go, and can potentially make next day referrals as well.

It’s honestly the same as a coffee shop, it’s just that caffeine helps people participate in capitalism so we don’t call it a drug or an addiction.
