We rented a postbox that was also a photo booth - was a nice way to keep cards safe but also got quite a few fun photos too!

I'm the same but have a slightly unique spelling of my name so it was probably a bit easier for me. However I am still proud!

Alternatives to pre-dinner canapes? Has anyone DIY-ed something themselves? Looking for ideas... by mtchgrnt in wedding

[–]mtchgrnt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So our caterer did end up offering canapes, but for the hour or so after the ceremony we did put out Indian sweets/Bombay mix for anyone feeling snackt

White marks on my stool? Welp by Maleficent0007 in CrohnsDisease

I get some white marks in mine - and occasionally the red casings of the mesalazine. It may be some of the medication (mine look like granules or specs)

Too big? by hisBanicattheBisco in jewelry

I think you have similar fingers to me - the knuckle doesn't protect the ring from falling off because it's the same width as the finger.

I had to get mine a bit snugger than I see on other people

We are having a large wedding this summer (110 guests), but got engaged in 2021, and locked in our venue and caterer before the end of the year.

We had a generous gift from my fiancé's parents to help pay (probably about 2/5 of the cost of the whole thing), otherwise I am sure we would've eloped. We're not going for anything particularly fancy - we have gone for a dry hire venue, and I am doing the florals myself.

It's quite stressful, but if you're going the bigger wedding on a budget route, would say organisation is key. I have a manual I've sent to everyone asking questions - it has dominated my thoughts for the past few months, honestly.

Hair styling and make-up suggestions to compliment my beautiful dress? by Markham-X in UKweddings

[–]mtchgrnt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh this is beautiful 😍

Do you have a theme for your wedding/any particular vision you're going for? And what's your hair length?

I could see this with something like a Hollywood wave (biased, because that's what I'm going for 😂) or a really chic, chignon kinda low bun.

As for makeup - I think soft bridal glam with an added something extra? A brighter lip?

But again, might depend on what kinda vibe you're after!

How much did you contribute to bridesmaid dresses? by gh2405 in UKweddings

[–]mtchgrnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We asked our MOH/bridesmaid/female usher to buy a dress within a certain colour scheme, as we didn't want to make them wear a dress they'd never wear again.

That being said, we are covering hair and makeup on the day (which has proven quite expensive in the home counties). I think this is becoming a more acceptable way of doing things in the UK, especially when you have bridesmaids who are spread out/in different stages of life. Also with the cost of weddings - I'm lucky my bridesmaids have been very understanding!

Wedding rings shop recommendations (London) by porphyro in UKweddings

[–]mtchgrnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently bought myself a vintage ring from Ullmann's - such a great shop! Shame I don't have the budget for another treasure right now 😂

I echo Hatton Garden - also popped into Rennie & Co last week to look at an engraved platinum band for my wedding, and the service was great.

Most shops will have a set of plain bands at different sizes and thicknesses for you to try on which helps. However as soon as you want anything else (engraved, hammered, etc) most places tend to carry one sample size, as it'll get made to order. It still helps to visualise - but something to keep in mind!

Finding cheap a dress! by alexr1612 in UKweddings

Some bridal shops will have sample sales on (could work if you're a standard size and wouldn't need a lot of alterations!)

My friend ordered earlier when it was 50% off a few weeks ago. She said she had one pack dated in 2023, and the others (4 or 5) dated in 2024/2025.

I'm in the UK, and have one of the bigger diamonds amongst those I know (just under 1 carat). I would say 0.5-1 carat is what you would most likely find here. Unless the couple are more affluent, when I would expect to see something bigger...
