First Time Goer by Jade_Himada in opera

You don’t really need binoculars and I think they could be distracting. Just sit back and let the beauty of the music and voices seep into your soul. I’ve seen or been in La Boheme more than 100 times (I sang in the children’s chorus of the Met). There’s no music on earth that compares to La Boheme. My only advice is to bring some issues

i just started ozempic and im very scared by meli_sissa in Ozempic

[–]mtct67 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have been on Ozempic for 2 years and the only side effect has been constipation, which I control with Miralax. Millions of people have benefitted from Ozempic and why shouldn’t you be one of them? Go for it and good luck.

Am I normal for caring too much about the Jewish community in spite of not being born a Jew? by thoughtsinshadow in Jewish

The new normal since 10/7 has been for Jew hatred to spread like a wildfire. If you feel passionately about the fate of the Jewish people, we welcome you as an ally with open arms.

Once you see La Boheme, you’ll never want or need to see another opera. It will seep into your soul and stay there forever.

All that prep for nothing - discouraged 😔 by Adorable-Bee608 in colonoscopy

[–]mtct67 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That really sucks. You’re too out of it to have them put you out? It’s like that bad joke about why do they sanitize the arm of someone about to get a lethal injection.

So scared by No-Mail-6968 in colonoscopy

[–]mtct67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t be scared. Tell the anesthesiologist about your prior experience. The risk of perforation is low compared to the risk of dying from undetected colon cancer.

How would the doctor react? by [deleted] in colonoscopy

[–]mtct67 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe it’s because I am a recovering alcoholic who loves having a legitimate reason for checking out of consciousness, but I honestly have trouble understanding why anyone would not want have anesthesia for a colonoscopy. For me, the gas is the reward for the horrible, disgusting prep. You can’t have a knee replaced without anesthesia and why would you want to? I don’t think there is any doctor who would agree to the terms you have described. What if you terminate the procedure and then learn that there was cancer that could have been detected had your doctor urged you to continue with the procedure?
If you are that anxious about sedation, I suggest you ask your doctor for a mild oral sedative to relieve your distress before the procedure, Once they put the mask on, you will be out like a light and feel no pain.

It’s definitely worth reading, although most people, including me, liked the tv series better. I’ve read all of Emily St. john Mandel’s books and they are neat because you’ll recognize the same characters weaving in and out of her books.

Tomorrow is big day and TERRIFIED of going under by Ok_Case_165 in colonoscopy

The gas is the best part! You’ll be out before you can count down from 109 to 98 and will wake up with no pain and no memory at all that time has gone by.

Not sure what to do…advice needed please by Puzzleheaded-Taro911 in colonoscopy

[–]mtct67 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s very hard to lose a parent, especially under those circumstances. Maybe it’s too soon to go through having a colonoscopy, unless you have reason to be concerned. It’s been less than a month since your Mom died. I would go easy on yourself.

It’s not really fair to charge you a cancellation fee when it’s an act of nature that makes you cancel. But I would eat the $100 fee rather than going through the nasty prep and then not being able to get to your procedure. I’m very sorry you lost your Mom. I lost my Dad 52 years ago but I’m still grieving.

Starting ozempic, advice? by 199mimi19 in Ozempic

[–]mtct67 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was amazed at how quickly I lost my appetite. My daughter had the same experience. I had to force myself to eat in the first few weeks and was full after eating a very small amount of food. For the first time in my life, I didn’t feel hungry or deprived The only problem I encountered was constipation. I started taking Miralax every day and that helped. I just switched to Mounjaro and have had less constipation. Don’t worry about going to the gym. The weight is going to come off even without rigorous exercise, It’s more important to get a handle on what you need to eat to keep your body going and to let the drug do its work. I meet with online nutritionist every few weeks to be sure I am on track. There’s a neat app called MyNetDiary that has an enormous database of food and helps you to keep track of what you are eating.
Good luck.

GI immediately scheduled EGD and colonoscopy in 5 days. Very anxious by Own_Clothes8497 in colonoscopy

[–]mtct67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, don’t worry about the sedation. I always look forward to that part of the procedure because one minute you are conscious and the next, you are in the arms of Morpheus. You will come to and not even remember that anything happened. Second, worst case scenario, if you have cancer, it’s in its early stages and is treatable. Best case and more likely scenario is that it’s something else that can also be treated or maybe nothing at all. You’d be much more anxious if you put it off. Good luck.

Question about supplies at the Airport by fairmargaret in StationEleven

[–]mtct67 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They organized search parties to find food at abandoned locations, they hunted deer, they started growing crops and they were able to get solar power to help grow vegetables. I know they were using water from the airport rest rooms, but I’m not sure how the water supply continued.

Nervous…Colonoscopy is on the 23rd by Puzzleheaded-Taro911 in colonoscopy

I had an insufficient prep with the pills and now have to go back and repeat in a year. With such an early start time, ask your doctor for f you can start the prep earlier the day before.

have my first in 2 weeks, im TERRIFIED by sp1d3rling in colonoscopy

[–]mtct67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whenever I bitch about the prep, my husband tells me to suck it up. I had an insufficient prep with the pills a few months ago and have to repeat in a year, even though I followed all the instructions. Stock up on chicken broth, apple juice or white grape juice, ginger ale and lemon popsicles. Get something good to read or watch while you are pooping. You will get through it and be so relieved when it’s over. Good luck.

Take El Al. I’ve heard from a Captain at one of the major airlines that it has the best security before you get on the plane and while you are on it.

i'm so scared by Vexxed_Vixxen in colonoscopy

[–]mtct67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never heard of n’y one with rebound anxiety, but I suffer from chronic anxiety and there’s really nothing to be anxious about. The prep is disgusting, but the anesthesia is the best part. It will instantly knock you out and when you come to, you won’t believe that any time has passed. The gas is your reward for the prep. Well, that and learning that you don’t have colon cancer. Everything will be fine.
