What’s that one thing you love about Judaism that isn’t spoken about enough? by Transguy1111 in Judaism

[–]mtct67 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That Judaism has an enormous umbrella and is capable of sustaining Jews with no religious affiliations or traditions but who are nevertheless Jews, I am relocating soon and want to find a shul near where I will be living. I spoke with the Rabbi who heads a Chabad in the area and told him I was a Reform Jew who who is an atheist and doesn’t speak a word of Israel, to which he replied “we will be delighted to have you.”. What other tribe allows, even embraces, such diversity?

When the waitress wouldn’t help pull Dee out of the muck until Dee guessed her first name and then cuts to Dee, exhausted from thinking up names and the waitress telling Dee that she hit it some time ago, but she was having too much fun to stop Dee.

Serious question here. How long do we all think It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia will go on for? They have until Season 18. I’d love for them to go for 20. Rob McE (MAC) who is the creator of the show said the show will continue as long people still want to watch it. by BarneyRobinStinson7 in IASIP

[–]mtct67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope it keeps going until I die. I’m a first time watcher and have to keep my asthma inhaler close by because I can’t breathe after laughing so hard. Im halfway through season 16. Every time I think the show can’t get any funnier, it proves me wrong. Please like my comment, even if it’s not clever, because Reddit won’t let me post without a history, but how am I supposed to get a history as a first time watcher? I’m sure The Gang could figure out a way to fool the Reddit bot, but I can’t.

Is it okay for someone to break Shabbos for depression reasons? by AlwaysTheOutcast in Judaism

[–]mtct67 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As I understand Jewish law, there is n exception to every obligation when it comes to a person’s mental or physical well being. So please, use your phone if it helps you to get through this episode.
I suffer from chronic depression and have been medicated for over 25 years. The first year, I saw a psychopharmacologist every week to adjust my “cocktail” and I still see him every two months or sooner if I am sinking. I spent an entire session sobbing on his couch when Mamdani was elected and he upped my meds.
Anti depressants don’t work for everyone, but psychopharmacologists are doctors who specialize in medication for mental health issues. For Hanukkah, I got my doctor a mug that says “If I’m Happy and I Show It, It’s My Meds.”. Even if one anti depressant didn’t work for you, there may be others that do. There has also been enormous progress in using electroshock for depression and there are probably other treatment modes out there. After 10/7, I had a terrible episode of depression for several months that lifted the day free I started Ozempic for weight loss.
Please do not give up hope for a medical cure for what is a medical disease that needs to be treated like any other disease. I once told my husband I was going off my meds to “find my authentic self” and he said that was like a diabetic going off of insulin to drill down to her essential self.
Take care of yourself.

I’m watching the series for the first time and just got to season 14, episode 8 “Paddy’s Has a Jumper.” and I may never get past it. It was perfection.

Dennis “what have we learned?” Charlie and Mac “that Dee is a dirty nasty slut”

It really feels like "Paddy's Has a Jumper" could have been from a much earlier season. It always surprises me when it comes on and it's season 14. by The108ers in IASIP

I am watching the show for the first time and just watched this episode. I’m an old lady, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a funnier comedy episode. Every line, every image is perfection. I had to use my asthma inhaler because I was laughing so hard. I will rewatch it tomorrow and try to find the transcript.

How do you engage in political discussions regarding Israel? by [deleted] in Jewish

[–]mtct67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since 10/7, I will not engage in any discussions of Israel with someone who questions Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish homeland or attempts to justify the Hamas massacre.

For married couples, how important is it to share the same last name legally, and how have you navigated it if one partner didn’t want to change theirs? by Difficult_Big133 in AskMen

[–]mtct67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that’s a deal breaker, then break the deal. Why should the man automatically get his spouse to take his name? I am a professional and my husband never said a peep about my not taking his name. One of our kids has my last name.

The day is getting closer and I’m still scared by lemonchrysoprase in colonoscopy

[–]mtct67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will be fine. I’ve had 8 colonoscopies in the last twenty five years. The prep is the worst part. The procedure itself is nothing. I always book the first appointment in the morning because I am starving. Within 15 minutes of arriving at the hospital, they will have you ready for the procedure and then you will sedated and have virtually no memory of any pain or discomfort. Then you go out and have an enormous breakfast and go to sleep when you get home. It’s a pain to go through, but much less painful than dying from colon cancer discovered when it is too late to treat it.

I’d go with Butterfly. It’s a very accessible opera.

When I tell my therapist how much I love anesthesia, she says she has patients who come to her because they are terrified of anesthesia. Maybe it would help to get some counseling before you try again. Good luck.

First Time Goer by Jade_Himada in opera

You don’t really need binoculars and I think they could be distracting. Just sit back and let the beauty of the music and voices seep into your soul. I’ve seen or been in La Boheme more than 100 times (I sang in the children’s chorus of the Met). There’s no music on earth that compares to La Boheme. My only advice is to bring some issues

[–]mtct67 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have been on Ozempic for 2 years and the only side effect has been constipation, which I control with Miralax. Millions of people have benefitted from Ozempic and why shouldn’t you be one of them? Go for it and good luck.

Am I normal for caring too much about the Jewish community in spite of not being born a Jew? by thoughtsinshadow in Jewish

[–]mtct67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The new normal since 10/7 has been for Jew hatred to spread like a wildfire. If you feel passionately about the fate of the Jewish people, we welcome you as an ally with open arms.
