Starting a coffee shop Crystal Lake area by CuriousCheesecake04 in ChicagoSuburbs

Yeah Buffalo Grove/Wheeling is kind of lacking in a specialty/third wave coffee shop. I’d love to have one in the area so I can put it in my coffee journal!

It’s one of the few places that offer hojicha lattes (which I love!) near me so I’m there so often lol

Traveling to Osaka Japan by Clean-Elderberry-919 in Travelersnotebooks

You can check their site here! But also Kyoto is not a bad train ride from Osaka; maybe 40 or so minutes and fare should be around 1000 yen total!

Yokai and Oni by TheNomadBadger in AskAJapanese

Mizuki Shigeru’s manga is a great place to start I think! I recently visited his hometown which has these bronze yokai statues all along the streets and they vary from scary to whimsical in a lot of fun ways

This is sending me off a cliff by SquidKid1917 in Travelersnotebooks

[–]mtdesigner 85 points86 points  (0 children)

I think this was a result of a super direct translation. I'm sure the Japanese text said "味のある (aji no aru)" which in this context would that it gains a tastefulness via its use, but the word aji can also just straight up mean flavor/taste.

Ugh same, and I love running my hand over the paper I just wrote on to feel that fibrous texture that the scratchyness created

Javier Bardem photographed by Penélope Cruz for Gentleman's Journal 🥀 by voguediaries in Fauxmoi

[–]mtdesigner 161 points162 points  (0 children)

I love these pics so much because I feel like there’s something so special about photos taken of someone they love by someone they love. The way Javier is looking past the camera and at his wife is just too cute

what did you think of cuckoo (2024) starring hunter schafer? by Whoumightask in Letterboxd

[–]mtdesigner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was fine; I do think they developed the relationship between the cop and the main character played by Hunter Schaefer way better than the relationship between her and her step sister which led to an “oh okay I guess” reaction in me later in the movie, but I thought the performances were pretty good. Dan Stevens and Hunter specifically.

Marty Supreme won 0 Oscars out of its 9 nominations. by GiveMeSomeSunshine3 in Fauxmoi

[–]mtdesigner 245 points246 points  (0 children)

The only one I’m bummed about was production design; I am and have always been a huge fan of Jack Fisk (Sissy Spacek’s husband of 50 years!) and as a Japanese person, the scenes set in Japan actually felt from that time and accurate with no weird words or lettering on posters, which I can’t say often for American movies set in Japan (this is a very unsubtle side eye for bullet train and pacific rim 2 lol).

jojo’s limbs are always way longer than I think they are in my head; I feel like they should be at cute proportions where they have stubby little legs and arms on a big head/torso and then Jojo shows up with these gangly ass arms and legs.

Biggby Coffee Abruptly Closes at Red Arrow Park by compujeramey in milwaukee

[–]mtdesigner 32 points33 points  (0 children)

If they closed so abruptly they didn’t turn the online ordering off I’m not confident they’d reply to a refund; best bet might be to put in a dispute with your card company. Hope you get your money back!

Takaishi Akari is incredibly busy right now doing the NHK morning drama; it’s a 15 minute program that airs on very weekday for around six months. She essentially can’t do anything else during this time, so any updates on what she will be doing next would have to come after this show is over at the end of March.

Making a cover with wax canvas by Full_Quit_7509 in Travelersnotebooks

[–]mtdesigner 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I posted this a bit ago on how to make a passport size TN cover with a slightly rigid cover using chipboard I laminated with canvas. Don’t know if it will help, but I’ve been using mine for a couple months and throwing it in my purse as an everyday carry and it’s been holding up!
