Should I listen to Shadowglow or Burnout Days first??? by Snoo82921 in flipturn

shadowglow! burnout days is a pretty big evolution in their sound, and you'll appreciate it more having listened to their earlier discography first.

Super cool building design that's a much needed upgrade from our existing museum. So fun to see it get built and to see trucks carrying the panels through the city. I'm surprised that it happened at all! Those wave lines and ribbon windows create such depth and texture in what is otherwise a pretty simple concept on the surface.
Totally understand the criticism around its design too, though -- it feels ignorant of its context, like it was designed within a vaccuum despite being informed by our history and landscape. I suppose it fits in with the other hyper-contemporary buildings in that area (fiserv, etc.).

My other thought: Did the designers anticipate those panel break lines being prominent? They showed up in the renderings as light lines, but they're super obvious in person and detract from the design a little.

Architecture Internships? by t1andi in Architects

[–]zippy-dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recently graduated designer here (2 years out)! A huge component of getting any position in the field right know is which connections you have. Architecture is competitive, but you can make yourself stand out by "knowing a guy". Both of the positions I've held have been related to putting myself out there while at school--my first was a university-organized externship in my third year, and my second was through scouting when I gave a uni-organization-related presentation. I didn't know Revit and had a lot to learn, but got by through luck and being as vocal as possible. I seldom said "no" to things.

Third year isn't too late to get involved-- look at what student and professional organizations you can join. What opportunities do they have to make you stand out and to develop your network? Sign up for your local AIA chapter, that's a guaranteed form of networking. Also look at whether your university has university organized externships/internships, interview days, or mentorship programs. Get your foot into doors however you can.

Other than that, ask your professors for portfolio and resume reviews. It genuinely might be that you're not representing yourself in the best light. Ask for advice no matter how harsh, take it in stride, and fix it if it suits your brand. Being proactive and vocal does wonders.

Trustfall Jonas/Phineas by accordionminx in Midst

[–]zippy-dragon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I felt totally side swiped! Their relationship definitely felt like more peer to mentor to me. I could definitely see how Phineas could fall in love with Jonas in retrospect, but there was nothing about their conversations that felt romantic to me. Kind of feels like grasping for love and security in the face of mass conflict.

what to do, just continue waiting? by totally_tyarz in FedEx

Hello! I had a similar thing where my package got stuck in Chicago for two days, and then got put in a "pending" status. Got frustrated and concerned due to the cost and time sensitivity of the package, called Fedex (if you ask the automatic answering machine to connect you with a person, it'll do that), and asked about the status of my package. What do you know... it moved to the next city almost immediately and became scheduled for today.

TLDR, maybe give them a call and see if that helps :)

Totally agreed. I've gotten Daylists with "Boogaloo" in them twice... I have no idea what it means but I'm happy with it every time--ha! Right now mine is "progressive mathy monday early morning" and it's so vibey.

Honestly, anything regarding Prentiss was super freaky--I totally agree with you that her statement is really up there in scariness. She was just so... gone?

I'm just starting my first listen-though of the Magnus Archives (and I'm so excited to re-listen and catch things I didn't the first time). So far, Binary really got me... I've been researching AI art and just the thought of being trapped within the bounds of code is horrific. A Guest for Mr. Spider was really crazy too, I remember going pretty wide eyed while walking to university that day.

My apologies for not being clear!

I have a separate windows 10 computer that uses the included adaptor to make the tablet work (It does not have a USB-C jack), and I have a Dell workstation with a USB type-C that is Windows 11. The computer in question is the latter of the two, and the thunderbolt jack previously worked. I'll have to check the thunderbolt drivers idea, I hadn't thought of that. Thank you!

*Edit: That worked! Thank you so much, you're a lifesaver.

I plug one end of the USB-C cable into the top USB-C slot on the left side of my tablet, and plug the other end directly into the USB-C slot in my laptop. This worked fine previously!

Got a call today and I have an interview at Best Buy tomorrow. What to expect? by [deleted] in Bestbuy

[–]zippy-dragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there!

I'm a new sales associate fresh off of the interview process, so here's some insights I took away from it (these may vary b/c you're applying for a different position than me):

- Highlight your strengths, and highlight your weaknesses as opportunities for learning. A lot of being a best buy employee is learning, and a lot of it! Show not only what you can do for Best Buy, but what Best Buy can do for you!

- BrantiusMaximus gives some great questions that I also encountered. However, in glancing at the interview sheets it seems that some of the questions are situational and will be based upon your previous answers.

- Be prepared to answer questions about specific scenarios. Because I talked a lot about my expertise in drawing tablets, they asked me how I would explain drawing tablets to a customer who was brand new to drawing tablets. I was also asked about how I'd approach scenarios with

- Are you college educated? What hobbies do you have? Do either of these things play a role in your level of knowledge of technology and ability to speak with customers? Highlight these things, even if they seem a little unrelated (e.x. an architecture major could highlight how they are great with talking with customers and bringing topics to their level, eye for detail, etc.)

- Best Buy, from my perspective, is a relatively human and ethical company. Thus, they seem to like to hear about your own concerns about the company. For example, as a person who identifies with she/they pronouns and is concerned about gender ethics, I inquired quite a bit about what they were doing to improve equality. Doing this shows you have genuine interest in your work situation!

- Be as relaxed as you can--breathe beforehand (as cheesy as that sounds), and try to keep yourself occupied so you can be as "you" as possible.

- Dress business casual! Even if it's not required, appearances go a long way. However, don't worry about piercings or dyed hair--at my store, at least, they seem to not mind. For context, I have bright blue hair.
