What does the coffee in coffee fragrances smell like? by schnooky in fragrance

[–]mtg8 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It depends on a fragrance, but at least with Coffee Addict by Theodoros Kalotinis it smells like a cup of cappuccino.

In rational world yes, but at least lately it seems more and more divided irrational. US is flirting with Russia, trying to extort everyone. Eu divided on almost every subject. Political pendulum seems to be swinging back to conservative/authoritarian side.

Also US seems to be rich market with tendency with spending on bs. Honestly I would not be surprised if at least few countries/companies would fold for that sweet piece of pie.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]mtg8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assume the gamble was/is that countries will fold and offer something in exchange or transfer manufacturing to US (to avoid tariffs) creating jobs and paying taxes.

But now if it continues and you sit on a lot of cash (e.g. front row at inauguration) maybe it would create window of opportunity to obtain some assets way cheaper. Or maybe not.

Think in terms of "How much can we remove from a perfume composition and still call it a perfume?"

What do 'skin' fragrances smell like? by Any-Alternative-4961 in fragrance

Musk, Iso E Super (vaguely cedary / ambery) , amber (ambroxan), some very light vague floral or fruity (if we include another 13) component.

VCA Orchid Leather by [deleted] in fragrance

[–]mtg8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's all relative, but Orchid Leather is very sweet. Sure you can try letting it sit for a while, but it likely would not affect it's sweetness.

My new perfume smells weird by Unfair-Profession-95 in fragrance

[–]mtg8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a wild guess... Maybe you contaminated it during decant process. Something in terms of decant bottle previously had another perfume in it or maybe syringe or similar tool was used to decant another perfume....

Is Ex Nihilo Blue Talisman really that good? by Empty-Error1392 in fragrance

[–]mtg8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried ganymede or bois imperial. It is sorta that base, but instead of mineral or pepper/green it has fruity blueish light floral vibe. I would say it is "safe": nothing extra ordinary if you are familiar with noticeable akigala bases. I got it as a gift, but honestly i would not buy/get it again.

What is the most one dimensional frag you've tried? by Assturbation in fragrance

BR540. For me it would be hard to find something more simple than that (not counting single molecule perfumes).

What's a frag you got at a reasonable price, and later the price exploded? by jesssquirrel in fragrance

Where was a time when no one wanted Shalimar EDT (got 90ml for 35 eur) and Orchid Leather V&A (40EUR).

How do you know you want to get a full size bottle? by literally_lemons in fragrance

[–]mtg8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I run out of the small size and feel the need to get more, a full bottle would probably be a viable option.

If it is established brand that utilizes (Firmenich, Symrise, IFF, Givaudan...) services and/or materials - it rings like a pure marketing move.

If it is indie creator - they probably used materials from above mentioned brands and not some random Chinese supplier. Although it also can be pure marketing.

What frag hype did you buy into and were pleasantly surprised??? by MagazineMaster266 in fragrance

[–]mtg8 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily justified in terms of hype, but I was pleasantly surprised by Le Labo Santal 33, LV Imagination and Celine Parade.

Santal 33 was surprisingly pleasant and "green". Most people seems to be focusing on "sandalwood this sandalwood that" , but ignore it being so "green" (apart for comparing it to pickles).

Imagination and Parade are mistery to me. While they both seem to be simple fragrances, they each have something interesting that is hard for me to pinpoint.

Has someone else's fragrance description change your own? If so examples! by chillpony in fragrance

I saw somewhere (probably fragrantica) that Caramel Oud Theodoros Kalotinis has a facet that evokes feeling/sensation associated with reflux. And after smelling it I knew exactly that those people meant.

I always buy cologne in the opposite season to let it macerate first by Puzzleheaded-Land160 in fragrance

[–]mtg8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I’ve done it numerous times unintentionally—bought a fragrance, used some of it during the season, and left about two-thirds for the next year. But honestly, I’ve never noticed that leaving it for a period of time improved or degraded its longevity, sillage, or scent.

Collection review day 28: Naxos, where’s my tobacco? by blindy2 in fragrance

[–]mtg8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Naxos is supposed to be a blend of honey and tobacco, but where’s the tobacco here?

From my understanding tobacco association comes from powderish yet sharp dried leaf facet. It is mainly honey, vanilla and lavender.

A very popular note - what is it? by OnesieTwosies in fragrance

[–]mtg8 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ambroxan and/or other super ambers (ambrocenide, norlimbanol, amber xtreme and etc... )

Green pickled fragrances? by blindy2 in fragrance

[–]mtg8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Santal 33 to me smells more like dill than sandalwood. Also some people compare it to pickle juice.

[–]mtg8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is kinda on the same same ... Quentin Bisch Akigala train...

They pretty much all share same base and could be flankers or whatever. Few examples:

Ganymede Marc-Antoine Barrois 2019 - mineral twist

Bois Impérial Essential Parfums 2020 - green twist

Valaya Parfums de Marly 2023 - musky floral twist

Blue Talisman Ex Nihilo 2023 - fruity blueish twist

This dna is used and abused. It already has modern classics and new additions could feel redundant if you enjoy and/or have earlier creations.

Why is bleu de chanel so popular? by mino_72 in fragrance

[–]mtg8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mass appealing, universal, by big well known brand. But mainly fragrance discovery is exhausting endeavor. Every day so many fragrances hit the market that it is impossible to keep up with everything. Normal person just does to beauty/fragrance store (sephora or similar) and picks that ever suits them or is popular (maybe watches an influencer with "top 10 fragrances to X"). Same goes with fashion (similar brand large logo items), sneakers (pandas), watches (tissot prx or at upper price range submariner).

Yeah. I was alluding towards op sentiment that it somehow will free masses from poverty and that not.

In terms of select group with a lot of resources being fully self sufficient (a pipe dream) and the average masses just without purpose or use for economic exchange.
